I would love to see a video where you take it to the claimed depth. After testing, take it home and see if the camera fogs and the phone goes into diagnostic mode. THEN try for deeper depths. You can’t truly say that the phone was fine at 6 meters without doing this. It was also still working at 20 meters. It only failed when you took it home. (Edited: spelling)
That's right, the phone won't fail right away. Water will slowly creep in and cause damage a day or two later. Also if you read the fine print, Apple offers no warranty for water damage.
They should have had three phones. One to do only stay submerged for 20 minutes to test how faithful their "actual" claims are. The second to test just how long the phone "actually" could last in that sort of environment. And the third as a test to see how deep the phone can go before completely breaking all together.
I have taken a lot of underwater videos ranging from surface to 15 feet deep in salt and fresh water with my iPhone 12 Pro and had no issues whatsoever.
Correction: IP68 means protected from contact with harmful dust (6) and waterressistant (8) down to atleast 1,5 meters (or more) up to 30 minutes (or more). Manufactures can however add additional proofing and testing to reach greater numbers than the minimum requirements. And all manufactures have a safety margin on their ratings. And maybe they did not even bother to test it higher than the rated numbers. So I don't see the "mystery" here. I did expect everything that happened to happen. And the water is not "very very" cold.. Just "normal cold". It's well within normal temps so it will not have any impact on the test at all. And I bet it works better when you see the moist on the inside of the camera lenses has gone away. It's most likely just a little moist behind the volume buttons so the phone thinks they are pressed.

It stopped working days after due to the fact they pushed it past its rating, right? 10:00 says it met the rating apple claims, just not more than that. Which is expected - it wasn’t rated past IP68.
you should have done it with two iphones, how do we know if the phone is broken because of the first or the second trial? the phone appears broken 3 days after and both trials were made on the same day. And, what if you do a trial at 40 metres during 40min without having done the first trial?
The issue is never immediate. Its always the day after when lens fogged up and water vapors short circuiting the circuits. Found it the hard way on IP11pro in a 1.3m pool. Don’t be fooled.

The problem is that even though they do hold in water they are still not completely waterproof. Water do get in the device however the effect may not be immediate. After several months of usage the water inside will cause corrosion internally and ultimately destroy the devise. This water proof rating is put with the intention not to dive with the phone but as a insurance that if you spill something on it it will not die. The IP68 rating IS NOT A GUARANTEE that your phone will not have internal damage due to a water entering the dice
Wow, I didn't know the new iPhone 12 was water resistant. I remember hearing about people coating their mobile phones with special liquid to turn it water resistant a couple of years back. That's cool.
The reason for diagnostic screen pop up is May be because both volume button are pressed at the same time when powering up iphone. Usually it's used after repairs are done.
The diagnostics screen is accessed by holding both of the volume buttons down while booting up. So the fault on this phone is caused by a short circuit somewhere that is causing the phone to think the volume buttons are being pressed. Easily fixed if it is opened up and cleaned/dried out properly, but this will on I void the warranty and if it is not reassembled and re-sealed correctly it will no longer be water resistant.
It’s intended to protect against accidental water exposure. So if you accidentally drop it in a lake, you could have 30 mins to recover it. It’s definitely not intended to dive with.
Thanks for watching! What phone should we extreme test next?! 📱🌊

thanx for the test Lexy
Just put it in rice for a day and it’ll be good as new.
Could you do a test like this with a one year old regularly used IPhone ? I’d be very interested in that.
Maybe if you press “diagnostics” the phone would probably be working fine
No it’s for internal Apple technicians to run tests without unlocking the users phone. It’s simply a stuck volume button
The diagnostics screen is accessed by holding both of the volume buttons down while booting up. So the fault on this phone is caused by a short circuit somewhere that is causing the phone to think the volume buttons are being pressed. Easily fixed if it is opened up and cleaned/dried out properly, but this will on I void the warranty and if it is not reassembled and re-sealed correctly it will no longer be water resistant.
i'm thinking how much apple is paying cnet to promote iphone 12 that ever other day there is a video on iphone 12 from cnet
Nice one, especially liked the end 😁🐻
CNET!
disconnect volume buttons from the board and the phone will boot no problem
It doesn't work that way
@@2tonedripgaming420 see my other comment and the 700 people agreeing with me 😌👍🏻
You need to test them after a while to test how long the water seal lasts
There out in the middle of no where and wearing masks. Holy crap
There’s a film crew?
Such overkill just drop it in a pool lmfao
Test is failed. After 72 hours phone is broken and need repair
Thank you!! But I won’t dare to try it with my 12 pro 😂🤣
It’s intended to protect against accidental water exposure.
So if you accidentally drop it in a lake, you could have 30 mins to recover it.
It’s definitely not intended to dive with.
That water looks beautiful
Un "Bearable"
Cuh
Me watching this to see if I could take my phone into the shower like 👁👄👁
Bringing it to Louis Rossman would a better option.
