  • We're really excited about our Origin 600 and Origin 65 ADCPs, but how do they work? In this video, Tom and Michelle explain the principles behind ADCP, and how it uses those to calculate the measurements it takes.

5 sound emitters. How do we decern which out of the five pings emitted by each of the emitters is observed once reflected back to the device? Would it really matter though if we can't decern each reflected ping? Does it really effect the reading by a significant amount?

This relates back to the fundamentals of how an ADCP works. Radial motion (along the path of the acoustic pulse) is the only motion that affects Doppler shift. An ADCP applies the Doppler shift principle to measure velocities along its individual beams and with the divergent design of an ADCP, each beam will make measurements for different locations.
