Shang Chi grew up becoming like his father to be a ruthless killer, but his mother's heart lives within him and chose to live a different life. Shang Chi has his father's strength and his mother's love, the best quality from both his parents.
To all those who say Wenwu is a bad father, that is true but you would have to remember that Wenwu is literally 1000s of years old, that means that his view of valor is different from the modern one. During his time it was the duty of the man to take care of the woman, it did not matter if the man is but a 6 year old boy, he was still male and so failed in his duty. You could see that he was struggling to come to terms with that. He understood that his son was afraid and so he trained him and tried to beat that cowardice out of him, to make him strong, only for him to end up running away. This enforced his belief that Shang-Chi was a coward. His ancient sense of morals contrasted with the modern society. He thought he was being a good father, because that was what being a father is to him. He was a warrior and wanted to see his son become one too. In fact if you were to ask his contemporaries, they would say that he was actually lax in educating his children. There is a difference in culture that we need to understand.

Also he was tricked in thinking he could get her back after all. So he didn't really choose the rings as much as he searched for a way to return her, which would have been the best for the family in his mind.
Shang-chi is really underrated character as we can see shang-chi beat his father wenwu who have thousands of years battle experience he is beast in battle combat

Wenwu throwin hands was the best part of the movie
The thing is every time I watch this movie I always cry especially at the childhood memories because Shang Chi was just a child. He lost his mum and to hear his own dad say to him when he’s older “you stood by the window and watched her die” must have hurts so much but one of the most painful scenes to watch is the one where Shang Chi returns and puts just fists inside the wooden pole where he trained to punch because it reminded him of his dad constantly making him train to the point where his knuckles would bleed. Therefore Shang Chi is my favourite film of all time.
Well his father really cared about his mother thats why after marriage he started living peacefully but after his wife died he always wear those rings

This is one of the best movies in the mcu period. Phase four was very hit or miss. But the action, fight sequences and cinematography and writing is exceedingly better than most Mcu movies of all time. It’s emotional and it’s got action and it’s a great change of pace. I think a reason why it was so good was because it was one of the first projects of phase 4 and since we didn’t get any marcel content during 2020 they spent more time into the first few projects but as the focus on quality over quantity. That’s when the movies started to fall off. I think that they should slow down and focus on quality

Wenwu as a +1000 year old man, he doesn't care if his son is 6 or 7 because in his time, there were probably many instances when young boys as well as many old men would be conscripted to go to war.. Like those "If you can hold a knife, you fight" moments.

I think his father who lived for more 1000 years was more knowledgeable than us who can live for only 100years,you may condemned him for being rash to him but I think what he do was the best approach to the situation, he blame him,his weakness to become his source of strength and motivation to become strong physically and mentally, he divert his attention to a potential self blame,depression and the what if and become his mental demon.He was only 6years old you may say but he was already expose to the dark truth at that age ,he can bring him to a psychiatrist normally but he has the ability to take the matters to his own hand.
