    Seems to me that the people should be telling the politicians what to do and not the politicians telling us what they will do for us... People seldom change what they want , Politicians often do change and often do things that people never wanted in the first place...
    Chris Parry is right about what he said. UK has always been behind in equipping it's military and certainly been going in the wrong direction reducing the military whilst telling us we still had a credible military... In some areas the kit is not too bad , but we are short in many areas in regards to capability...

    • @jumbo7165

      thats why the uks armed forces are now just a militia force... but they still advertise to youngsters to join the army...its false advertising, you need to have over 100,000 personnel to be classed as a army...

    This has given what I said in a previous comment true validity as Sir Chris Parry knows his stuff and has confirmed my point of view! Putin is not the one to go pressing the nuclear button! Unlike the politicians in the west Putin thinks in the long term not just to the next election!

    The US may outspend everyone else on defence but at what cost for the Ametican people? There are millions in the USA who lack basic health care; at a local level educational standards in some parts of America are woeful, with high school "graduates" not reaching the level of a 1960s 11 Plus.

    • @jgibbs651
      @jgibbs651 2 года назад +1

      @Robert Thorpe No excuse. In fact the US "needs" to spend less on defence than most other countries. It only has land borders with two countries, both friendly; it controls the seas around it's land with the world's largest navy, plus a militarised Coastguard; flying time from most of it's enemies is at least one hour. In short, so long as they control incoming visitors they're sitting pretty - stark contrast to virtually everyone else with the exception of Australia.

    A succinct commentary by Parry

    • @frederickmiles327
      @frederickmiles327 2 года назад

      Not really he is pulling his punches as never before and is clearly back in service with the RN( Admirals never retire and are on permanent recall like M16 officers and Lotus drivers). Modern or Korean war is being fought at nuclear intensity daily as General Curtis Le May said he was fighting at nuclear level daily in 1945 and 1950-1.. US and Soviet leaders often made Nuclear threats during the Cold War and I assume Putin is threatening Biden and Blinken, that if Kiev or Odessa is levelled by Russian bombers... I threaten to raise the ante partly based on the Russian assumption that NATO would not use nuclear weapons first
      I appreciate Chris Parry clarification that he prefers Rugby worships Wales at Rugby and supports the Sea Eagles as it is popular in the RN and they can actually best the Army in that code Thank you

    The RN was faced with a Korean war level opponent in the Falklands and was only equipped to defend against the Soviet Navy Bear, Badger and Binder and Backfire and their standoff missiles. As Rear Admiral Parry said in his book his ship HMS Antrim was equipped only with missiles Seacat and Seaslug useless as either high level AA or point defence. Only the 4 Type 42 destroyers had a high level AA missile and 2 of them were sunk. Given the RN submarines still used the Mk 8 and M24 torpedoes in 1982 they were clearly equipped only to deal with the Bismarck. The Soviets had actually had fast SSNs since 1962.

    Disagree, on how this will end. Putin maybe happy with securing the Crimea and access to it but no way will the Ukranians put up with that. Access from the north is too long for the Russians and open to attack so it'll have to come from the south or east. The Ukranians, if they confined the Russians in the south could push them back and out with the extensive help that's coming to them. I doubt the Ukranians will agree to a deal.
