    Man I can't tell you how many years I spent trying to find a good guitar VST early on.
    Nexus was the first VST to give me some good ones that ended up being my go to in the early 2010's.
    It's definitely one of the most difficult mainstream instruments to replicate in VST form but you featured some dope ones in this video!

    I have to say it, brutal as it sounds, but if I were a musician starting out today (or just even kind of young), I would focus on the keyboard alone and get good on it. It's such a flexible instrument (like the keyboard I'm typing on now). You can play a guitar (or a sax or an oboe or any instrument) _with a keyboard_. The VST's have gotten so good. I haven't seen it yet, but it's easy to imagine 5 musicians on stage, each with their own keyboard. One is playing drums, one bass, one guitar, one trumpet, etc.

    Mate I'm a guitarist and I respect your skills on the keys....pickup a cheap guitar and start learning....you already have the musical skill...you just have to get down the mechanics of playing....I always tell my students ...if you can get over the initial uncomfortable feeling of stretching your fingers and digging into thin wire....after 3 months you would have built up the right strength to make it feel just as comfortable as any instrument

    I'm not sure about the free versions, but with Ample Guitars you can extend the range in the GUI by detuning the lowest tunning peg. Also, the pitch bend range is factory set for manual vibrato and needs to be adjusted under settings for traditional use. These are legitimately among the top most realistic solo guitars on the market. They have a manual strong strum mode too. Nice list!

      @@Tutnese what do you mean by widen pitch I just got it I wanna know like how to increase the range to play every note from high to low on piano roll and so could you explain what u mean by that?

    • @Tutnese
      @Tutnese 3 года назад

      @@tamezzodiac2862 hi, first of all, I'm sorry; I said "pitch bend" but I meant the modulation wheel. I don't believe you can play the entire range of a piano, but you can achieve drop 'D' tuning and also play a bit above the natural range of a guitar by simply clicking the low 'E' tuning peg and dragging it to the left. This procedure will extend the guitars range by two notes. I believe the range can be extended upward by dragging the high 'E' to the right, but I can't remember at the moment and unfortunately I'm not near my PC now. One thing to remember about Ample Guitars is that they use the physics of an actual guitar and you will have to physically select piano mode to play their instruments like a piano. Spend some time with them, there is a bit of a learning curve if you don't play guitar, but you will get the hang of it in no time; it can also teach you guitar, which is a perk no I e mentions. I suggest buying a cheap guitar for reference in the future and learn BASICS. if you have any other questions please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them, but the best resource for Ample Guitars is by far the HiFiMIDI RUclips channel. Ruben is actually who introduced me to Ample Sounds and started my obsession with virtual guitars. Now I have all of AS guitars and basses+++.

    Playing the guitar and drums are feelings that can’t be replicated from anything else. If you love guitar that much you should seriously spend and hour to 2 hours a day learning. Don’t over think it man. Just go for it and don’t ever stop. You can only go up bro.

    • @JimmyCooperAustralia
      @JimmyCooperAustralia 2 года назад +9

      Most of the time it's just not practical to do so. Even on top of the learning, you need a decent instrument, preamp/amp, mics, room, etc.
      It takes several months to be able to really play the instrument at a very basic level, and possibly years to be somewhat competent.
      If I learned every instrument I have a VST for, there simply wouldn't be enough time in the day if I had zero sleep for years.
      That said, I do agree with your statement. It's extremely difficult if not impossible to replicate it. In that case, it really comes down to close enough is good enough.

    • @DawzeyJ
      @DawzeyJ 2 года назад

      I play guitar, piano, drums though i don't mind having semi-decent plugins to get ideas down quickly and hear what it could sound like before getting the instruments out for recording.

    I agree, Native Instrument's Session Guitarists Picked Acoustic and Strummed Acoustic (Strummed Acoustic which is strumming only, no freestyle Acoustic playing like their Picked Acoustic)
    I'm only speaking as an amateur musician, but as a PROFESSIONAL consumer of music, it just sounds right and clean and such authentic detail. The interface might be a little confusing and you might m=not get the setup out of the box, I'd recommend just taking that first day to see how it works, then start making .
    music.
    The reality is however, every setting did not sound good to me out of the box. I had to learn that the velocity settings of my MIDI data affects sound (some things sound much better with low velocity of 5 to 30), and a lot of other little nuances, but I have a template library now of all the Acoustic sounds I need.
    Thumbs up, WAY UP for Native Instruments Picked Acoustic!!!!
    Nice Studio.......

I recently finished a song using all guitar samples and loops AND I have Komplete 13. I have Ample and it’s good, also AAS Strummer, and a few other free VSTs, but they all have limitation. Haven’t looked at Nexus or Omniphere but most synths don’t have the articulations for mute, hammer on, picked, etc. So…

    If you were my neighbor I'd give you free guitar lessons! Your love for the instrument shows and frankly none of the VSTs do it justice yet! Seriously, get a guitar and start doodling and before you notice you'll be playing for real! You clearly have passion and dedication necessary, and most importantly all the musical training already so it's a much quicker route than starting from scratch as a first instrument!

    And yes, I agree, the mod wheel hardly ever sounds good with guitar VST's! I'm only a couple minutes into this video - so hopefully one of these has a killer mod wheel feature!

    Hi! I really enjoyed this informative video, I am looking for something to help since I also *can’t* play guitar (very well, just yet) - I’m keen to try some of those options you listed, I just wondered if you use a sustain pedal the same way you do with a traditional keyboard to put sustain on the notes when playing midi? Probably a dumb question, I’m just trying to find out everything about how this could work. I can’t make my sustain pedal work with my midi keys so I’m probably all up the pole with my technology (I know nothing 😫)
    Have subscribed and can’t wait to check out more of your vids, very helpful- thank you!

    Love the breakdown of the softer side of guitar VSTi's! Think you can make a video on the more aggressive, electric variety? Virtual instruments like Solemn Tones Odin II, Ample Sound Metal Hellrazer, Impact Soundworks Shreddage 3, etc. Would love to hear your thoughts on that variety!

  • @jeffreykasbohm7685
    @jeffreykasbohm7685 3 года назад

    Cedric! It's in you man! What you were playing on electric Sunburst was great -- you know all the notes, you got the feel, now just knock out 15 minutes of REAL guitar practice a day (because 15 minutes is all you'll be able to endure at first --- you gotta twist the neck / fret hand around pretty far compared to playing piano - but you'll build up that flexibility) 15 minutes a day with your background knowledge -- in 2 years you'll be jamming! 2 years will arrive -- and you'll be sooo happy you did (ps electric is easier on the hands / fingers but a lot more finicky...I predict you'll be playing both :-) PS -- Great episode too :-)

    • @jeffreykasbohm7685
      @jeffreykasbohm7685 3 года назад

      and PS --- don't try to go Jimi hendrix left hand guitar (as cool as that is) -- it doesn't matter what hand you write with, the brain will wire with whichever handed ness you start with -- so get a regular right hand guitar and play it right handed -- everything is built for right handers -- much easier to get. (I'm left handed but play guitar the "normal" right handed way.
