It's time, we're going full vanlife - this is our new motorhome for the next 5 weeks. It's crazy to think that our first experience of driving (& living, sleeping, eating, washing) a campervan is in New Zealand! That's 2020 for ya, throwing curveballs at as all from a distance, in the dark.
Either way, we're sold on vanlife now. New Zealand is a great place to explore in a motorhome and we met some incredible people along the way living their life non-stop in camp sites etc. For us, 5 weeks is plenty of time as a trial and today is an exciting day - we make our way out to Maui to collect the 6 berth campervan known as The Beach. I had the pleasure of living in your amazing country for almost two years back in 2015/2017 and had a blast travelling. Decided to go again and bring my boyfriend with me this time. About two years ago I started watching this series as a prep for my own NZ trip. Now, as we're gonna fly to NZ next week and begin our 7-week trip, I started to watch your series again and honestly want to thank you guys for the great inspiration and ideas I got from seeing you guys making your way through the country. To anyone who decides to do this and think they will be overwhelmed during the orientation process of learning the ins & outs of the RV rental. One of you just needs to pull out your phone and record the tutorial for later reference. Easy and common sense really.
Great advice, thanks Rod. Lucky for us we had multiple camera angles and a RUclips video to refer back to but it was still an overwhelming amount of information to take in then and there.

Diesel heaters are VERY effective. You definitely will not be cold. Also, the griller is gas, so you don't need to be plugged in to power.
We had our own Huge Camper Van in the USA. Our second one was the charm. We took our young family to Quebec, CA for the summer, to Florida, Disney world and Sanibel Island for the winter and to Charleston South Carolina for the spring. Al worked for Intel and got 4 weeks of vacation every year. We always traveled with the latest technology, cell phones, fax machines, CB Radios and hand held cell phones that looked like a Tissue Box. Our three boys grew up with us camper van traveling and finally, our 4th child, an adopted daughter was brought on board at age 3 days to join our family. Great memories all.

We're looking forward to following you along on your camper trip. NZ's our favourite! We''ve just returned from our first motorhome trip around the highlands of Scotland. Living out of the camper was so much fun...although emptying the loo cartridge was a whole different kind of fun which I'm sure you found out too! lol...

YES...Just found your site ! Im a kiwi and just love my passion of motorhomeing ! Ive owned the big ones but have now down sized to a much smaller Toyota Hiace 2.4 ltr petrol model with a real high roof,ex maui campervan.Has all the comforts of the bigger ones and there's a bed up top as well.I love driving it and parking is easy.Layout is simple,with main bed at the back & kitchen up front.We do most of the cooking outside on a fold out table.There is a porta poti under the kitchen sink,that we dont use because we use clean council toilets and our showers are at public hot pools or outside showers at beaches.Our Camper is certified self contained and I belong to NZMCA ! Love responsible freedom Camping here in our NZ.

As ex-Europcar staf, i know why they do that, and it is a normal check up, so you won't get any complaints after or unexpected problems :) It is for your own safety guys :) I was glad they made such good job, knowing others rent companies.... Cannot wait for the next episode :)

I just roadtripped through the states. Was very curious about renting something like this. Good to see what they look like inside!
This is the biggest rental vehicle in NZ which would be around the size of the smallest possible in the States. Though it’s perfect for NZ roads, you wouldn’t want any bigger.
Phil's correct below, this is as big as it gets. Not really a RV or full US motorhome style sadly

Daneger and Stacey it sucks right? I’ve taken about 10 trips and done it every single time. Usually once per trip is enough but I think my record is 3 times in a day.
That first time feeling when you hope it’s just really loud inside the vehicle before spotting the looks from everybody around you and knowing that “nope, it is indeed the horn going off!”
Would love to know the sizes of the suitcases that managed to fit below the seats, are they all carry-on size?
