In this week's video, Jonathan Landeros of KETIV Technologies shows how you can create a sheet metal emboss in Autodesk Inventor using the Sheet Metal punch tool. The punch tool is an iFeature, with specific functions adapted for sheet metal.

Jonathan, thanks very much for this great video. I had this exact thing to do, and expected it would be like pulling teeth, considering the Autodesk help info available. I followed you right thru, and even picked up some tips and techniques I can use in other ways. You are a great teacher, and I am most grateful!

This would break the flat pattern, no?

They should really jsut make a faster dimple tool for this, like solid edge

I have followed this to the letter more than a dozen times and each and every time get the error "can not build feature - no edges found while making filet feature - Autodesk Inventor Pro 2016

I'm using v2019 and I have similar problem with fillets. One thing not mentioned in the video is that there can NOT be any dependencies from features outside the iFeature to be created (flat face in this example or origin point). For me everything works fine other than fillets near the flat face since they kind of have to be dependent on the nearby flat face...no idea how to fix it.

I've found the solution! I'd assume Inventor over the years got a bit more picky about geometry. 1) Make the geometry independent - get rid of vertical/horizontal constraints, don't project any edges from flat face, etc. 2) When you're authoring the iFeature and switch to sheet metal feature there are 2 blank windows on the right. When you pick the iFeature geometry they fill in: top one with parameters, bottom one with geometry. In this case bottom one is going to have a sketch plane, an edge and another plane. Right click the edge, choose "combine geometry" and left click the emboss in MODEL SPACE. The edge will disappear from the window. Then combine the lone plane with sketch plane and it's gonna work. It's likely Inventor missed the "cut" extrusion from selection window, adding it to selection set fixes the issue as well.
