    Spoiler!!!!
    No, it’s not in the book. It’s explained in the movies. The ONLY thing WCKD knew about the kids from the maze was that the majority of them had an immunity to the Flare Virus. The revelation about Thomas couldn’t have been known years ago by simply testing his blood because the enzyme that’s present in their blood that creates the cure is only there because of their experiences in the Maze and Scorch. The extreme fear caused by their experiences releases the enzyme into their bloodstream. This is clearly stated in the second film and in this film when they’re testing Minho. It's why all those kids were being drained at the beginning of the second film, right after they escaped their mazes. All you had to do was listen and pay attention to know that.
    And I’m speaking as somebody who saw this movie two weeks ago, and I’m not referencing the books because the cure is different in the books. The whole blood thing isn't a thing in the book universe.

      Thank you so much for this comment, it's an important one. If there's something i hate is when people talk confidently about "plot holes" that really aren't, just goes to show they paid no attention to the movie they're talking about. And the excuse with adaptations is always "I didn't read the book". Well, maze runner after the first one never followed the books strictly so that for me isn't even an argument

    • @mojtaba7528
      @mojtaba7528 7 лет назад +1

      Ok so they couldn't have figured it out in the first 2 films because the experiences in those films changed Thomas's blood to make it a cure for the virus. I understand and accept that and you're right in that part. I thought the same thing while watching the film.
      But you have to agree that it's somewhat unrealistic that no one in Thomas's group realized that Brenda should not be simply cured like she was. Everyone knew that there was no cure but just a simple medicine to hold the virus at bay. Yet she's gone without trouble for months. Jorge even asks how she's doing and she answers she feels fine and Jorge didn't think that was weird?
      Furthermore when Newt get sick no one including Thomas doesn't think that maybe they should use Thomas's blood to treat him real quick just like they did Brenda.
      Next when Teresa hears about what Thomas's blood did for Brenda she just stays quiet. I mean she just found out something she's been looking for years. But she just stays quiet because Thomas's says be quiet once.
      Everyone was just acting too dumb and it felt like it was only like that because the story had to be that way. It was also too cliche and easy to figure out how it was going to go from that point.

      Mojtaba except there wasnt any doctors in that group. The female doctor that helped Brenda died. You dont just give a blood transfusion and you're done.

    Wes Ball didn't follow the book plot as closely as you might think. I believe he purposely took his own take to the storyline and it was much more rewarding as a viewer than the reading the book. To be quite honest, I did not even notice the length until I actually got out. Perhaps because I was very invested in the whole series because of the books. I agree that some things didn't make sense, however I think it was a good conclusion to the book series as a whole.

    You say you can't cut that much out because the book readers are the only market left and if they do the book readers will revolt but the first two movies weren't that close to the books so, in my opinion, it'd be kind of weird to suddenly become very loyal to the books.

  • @laurenkawai4981
    @laurenkawai4981 7 лет назад +1

    @9:07 That was exactly my problem with this entire movie series! Having the cure come from the blood makes zero sense. What the hell was the entire point of the maze trial if it was all about the blood the entire time? And it's as simple as getting some contaminated blood from a random piece of gauze that's been sitting in Teresa's pocket for hours. That was probably the number one change from the book that ruined the entire movie series. In the book, it's all about the brain patterns to create the blueprint. All of the immunes have the flare in them but their minds don't show the effects of it at all and that's why they are studying their brains and putting them through the trials. In the movie, the blood of an immune, any immune, will slow down the disease, so theoretically, the immunes could just give blood as much as they safely can, and the serum can be provided to everyone just as medication to stop the symptoms, not as a cure. It's not the best solution, but it's the most obvious one that would cause the least amount of problems. However, in the book, the stakes are much higher than just giving blood. SPOILER ALERT................................... In the book, they chose Thomas as the final candidate. His brain has shown the strongest results throughout the trials and WICKED needs to open up his skull and poke around his brain, but he won't come back from it. The reason they put all the immunes through the trials was to see who was the strongest, so they would only have to take the brain of one person, rather than cutting up everyone to see what they find. It makes the question of sacrifice much stronger. Thomas would have to sacrifice his own life to save everyone, not just sacrificing some blood.

    Obviously I haven't seen the movie yet, but as somebody who loved the book series in middle school, I don't think this movie attempted to be a faithful adaptation of the source material like you keep saying--at least based on what I've heard. The Death Cure is by far the least eventful of the books, and the key reveal that contextualizes the entire series (aka the reasoning behind the Maze trials, etc.) is randomly thrown in on the very last page. There's absolutely no buildup to it and the main focus of the book is on different things entirely. Based on how far off-book they went in The Scorch Trials, and based on the trailers and even just this review, I get the feeling that the book is extremely different.

    The Hunger games and the Hunger games catching fire are the longer films in the series, and yet they have far better pacing than the final two(Mockingjay part 1 and part 2) where as for Maze runner, the movies have becomes progressively longer and feel longer! Proof that bigger isn’t always better, and the shorter films can feel longer than the longer ones within the same franchise! Watch out for It chapter two, because it’s set to run 169 minutes which is 34 minutes longer than it!

      Yeah, but when you’re going to make it a series, you have to look at the later books and figure out how to make those work before you start, otherwise you get a shitty ending to a good start. Also the movie series has gone so differently from the books, so there's no way this could be following the book and hopefully this makes it better :)

    Can we not randomly add music to these videos. It was a bit distracting from listening to what Dan and Roth were saying. Please and Thank you.

    That second one was so shitty I am not even a little bit excited for this.
    Had nothing at all to do with the book, like nothing. At all. I don't even see the point of the damn thing!
    I was pissed, can you tell?

    • @ananas22anne
      @ananas22anne 7 лет назад +2

      yeah, i remember hating the second and being sooooo confused, because there weren't just some changes, it was like a complete different story. so now i'm confused by this review. will the 3rd one be oriented on the book? i can't imagine! and it's too long ago to even remember the story of the 3rd book for me.

      I'm a huge fan of Percy Jackson and the movies sucked to the point where my expectations for any book to movie adaptation were extremely lowered and it wasn't as horrible as Percy Jackson so it was a win for me

      Right? The whole movie I was like WTF is this? WTF are you doing? Why the fuck did they just run for the entirety of a movie with no plot what so ever!!!
      I'm gonna sit this one out, it'll come out on streaming sites eventually

      I agree it was NOTHING like the book (which I don’t know how James Dashner let the screenwriters get away with) but I still like the movies even though they are completely opposite from the books. The actors are great and the directing is as well

    The Maze Runner is one of those YA novels that should have stayed a novel. It's just too big to be translated well to film. It's an excellent story, super suspenseful and constant action, but when that's put on screen it comes off like it's trying too hard. Also they changed the story significantly to make it fit the big screen, which is disappointing for someone who has read the series. It honestly didn't need a film interpretation. James Dashner is a really excellent author, and this series is super unique in the dystopian YA world. I hope the movies don't keep people from reading it.

  • @KyleCorwith

    Just because a movie is longer than it should be doesn't mean it can't be good or great. I think Blade Runner 2049 could be cut down around 20 minutes but I still consider that movie the best of 2017.

    The thing for me is that the other two movies have been barely like the books and I didn't like that. However I absolutely hated the third book (especially the dumbass ending) so if it fixed my problems with the book, I might actually end up liking the movie. Probably will just rent it or wait for it to come out on Netflix

    I am a BIG ass Maze Runner Fan, I have read the books, (they're great!) and I have watched both the movies, I personally thought the 1st One was Amazing, and portrayed amazingly, the 2nd one sucked so so much. They could've cut out like, 1 hour of the movie, and it would have been great, 2nd one was boring, I honestly CANNOT wait for this movie.
