Great video outlining the strengths of this film! I'll definitely try Delta at some point, especially for portrait stuff. And those are some phenomenal photos and prints! Fantastic work!
I like your passion for film photography I watch your videos religiously. Your film reviews are so informative and inspiring with photo examples. Thank you for sharing your experience especially with developing and darkroom printing. Keep up the good work Ribsy.
Couldn’t agree more! It’s probably one of the most underrated film stocks. I pushed a roll to 1600 at a concert and it held up really well. Printing that film is indeed amazing. Such smooth yet crispy tones.
Totally agree with everything you said on this video. Delta 400 and FP4 are my go to landscape and portrait films. My mind is blown every time I do 16x20” darkroom prints with delta 400 in 35mm. The quality is almost in the realm of medium format (in terms of sharpness). I only did a portrait shoot last weekend with two rolls of delta 400 and two rolls of HP5. Delta 400 was the clear winner by far.
Delta 400 is great. Using it was the first time I ever really noticed a difference in different film stocks. I mean, others compared side by side, yeah, I could tell a difference, but with Delta, when I first looked I was like "Whoa!"
Man this is an awesome video! It's really impressive how sharp you got those shots even in low light when I'm guessing your aperture was close to wide open.
Nice. What gear do you use to tether the flash off camera? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this with my A1 but I haven’t found any resources to describe how to do it.
Those portraits are outstanding! I should give Delta one more chance maybe, so far I preferred TMax for portraits, but with the current price increases it has become unaffordable and I fell back to HP5 mostly. I always found Delta's grain kind of "grungy" in comparison, but maybe that impression came from the faster speed film, I really hate the grain in Delta 3200 in comparison to Kodak's.
I'm going to buy a bulk of this film. I love it the Delta 100 but your video has convinced me to buy it. I'll develop it in D76. In many years I've shotted in large format, medium format.. but now I'm reevaluating the 35mm.
Great video Ribsy. I like everything about it. I also started to shoot Delta just a couple weeks ago. The first few rolls in 120, all pushed to 1600, came out very nicely. The characteristics you have mentioned in the video, leave some room for pushprocessing. At least with mediumformat. Thanks for the video!
Very inspiring firstly to try Ilford Delta and secondly to try more portraits. For remotely triggering the flash I use a vivitar SL-2, it has a tripod mount and is triggered by light as a slave from the hotshoe flash or the built in flash of the camera. You can convert any hotshoe flash into a
Great video. Question. Do you think that if you printed delta in medium format that it would have the same look as a digital print converted to black and white? I wouldn’t have thought so but you’ve probably seen this directly therefore I ask.
Great video, thank you! Wow that film is dynamite - the prints looked so cool with the film borders, and you are so right about printing, I recently did a test batch for the first time in 10 years and it was so satisfying! Definitely will try some of this film soon :)
Great Video and really nice shots. I love Delta400 for capturing my little daughter. On 120 I push the Film +1 and develop in ID11 1+1. it brings back a little bit more the film Look with the amazing detail you have shown. Nice to see your amazing work with this film 👍🏼
Great shots! For black and white film Delta - all three versions - are the best on the market in my opinion. My new favorite developer for it is Black White and Green by Flic. Cheaper than ddx, with similar results, in a syrup for 1-shot use like HC!
@@ribsy BWG uses the same active ingredients as xtol. I've used xtol in the past and found it similar to ddx, great results. I never liked the 5L size, 6 month shelf life, and powder mix though. The BWG stuff fixes all that. so far I've used it for both stand and Jobo development, and my search for the ultimate developer is done:)
@@jw48335 I had Xtol the year before last and I had it for a year till I used it all up and it was as good at the end as the beginning. I did put marbles in the 5lt bottle to bring the dev up as I used it to keep the air out and kept changing down size bottles and used the marbles again. Air is the enemy, it seems
@@Resgerr I had the collapsible bottles to take the air out as I used it and I still had 2L left over when my snip test failed at 10 months. From what I have read the solution will fail randomly and when it does it will fail completely and not work at all. that is consistent with what I experienced. Regardless, this new black white and green stuff, the syrup is supposed to last for years, it is a mix-it as you use it option just like HC, only better :-)
Great portraits!!! I've not shot much black and white, and after discovering I cannot stand HP5 I've been trying to decide between Delta 400 and Tmax 400 as my next shot at monochrome.
Great video and I love the shots you got out of those photoshoots. Very nice work. And I have to say I love all ilford film stocks. They are much cheaper than Kodak here in Canada too and provide great results.
A "PRO" black and white film makes no senses, but back in the "good" old days of analog color films for a professional it was very essential that the color of the films was exactly the same, especially when using slide film for a slide show, so professional films had the same age, the same production and serial numbers. professional photographers always had a LOT of film stored in refrigerators og freezers to be sure of constant supply of color films, so those film was called professional film, for amateur hobby photographers it gave no senses to use professional films, they was not better but much more expensive.
Great video outlining the strengths of this film! I'll definitely try Delta at some point, especially for portrait stuff. And those are some phenomenal photos and prints! Fantastic work!
really appreciate the comment

Great video - you should definitely try Delta 3200 as well. Beautiful grain, especially on 120.
Delta 3200 4 life!
Yea def gotta give it a shot
Nice. What gear do you use to tether the flash off camera? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this with my A1 but I haven’t found any resources to describe how to do it.
for a wired setup, i have a simple flash sync cable plugged into the camera. the other end goes right into the flash (looks like 3.5mm headphone jack)
Good work. 💪Delta is my 2nd favorite bnw after Tmax. And it's definitely cheaper here in Japan too.
Yea ilford prices seem to hold up well everywhere
Great work! Your pictures of the recording sessions reminds me of W. Eugene Smith's Jazz Lofts.
Amazing I’m gonna look that up

yea 400 def has much softer grain than 3200
@@ribsy Haha, duh, that's clear - compared to Kodak's 3200 grain. Delta always put me off, but maybe it's only a problem with 3200 film.

How do you meter with flash>?
depends on the flash. this one has a fixed distance scale
Completely agree… it’s my go to for 35mm. But I prefer HP5 for 120, I like the grain on 120.
Yea def! Grain is good
Is that the canon P? I have the canon vi-t, same body as the p but with a trigger winder.
Yea canon P

Yea I think so. The grain is so fine in medium format
Hey ribs, would you tell me which flash you have on your canon p? Was just looking for a flash for mine.
Thank you
It’s a cheap one I got at a charity shop - arkon is the brand I think
Those flash photos are so freakin dope man
thank you!
really cool photos, did you use the canon P with the jupiter lens to take the 35mm shots?
Yup! Simple setup for the first bunch
splendid work bro! really enjoy your content
