Bout Summary:
The fight lasted only 89 seconds with Tyson earning an easy victory via disqualification. McNeeley started the fight by aggressively attacking Tyson as soon as the opening bell rang. Tyson was able to avoid McNeeley's wild punches and land a right hook that dropped McNeeley to the canvas less than 10 seconds into the fight. After taking referee Mills Lane's standing eight count, McNeeley was allowed to continue and again would continue his aggressive assault on Tyson. The two men would exchange punches in the corner as the first minute of the round passed. Less than 20 seconds later, Tyson would land a right uppercut that again sent McNeeley down. With McNeeley clearly hurt from the exchange, his manager Vinnie Vecchione entered the ring to prevent McNeeley from taking any more damage, causing Lane to end the fight and award Tyson the victory by disqualification.

I was 16 when this fight happened and my parents were out of town. My older brother and I were charging people to come in our house and watch the fight. Too bad it only lasted 89 seconds.

It does not look like a Logitech Fotoman camera... The Fotoman had a big center lense with big flash on the top. This looks like top right corner and way smaller, plus it's shiny and the Fotoman was opaque plastic.

I was at this fight with my friend and he went to go get snacks about 30 seconds before the bell rang and came back and missed the whole fight. It was the only mike Tyson fight he went to
I give McNeeley a lot of credit. The guy was being aggressive and fighting to win. McNeeley did land some decent punches, but Tyson was just on another level from every other boxer. No disrespect to Ali I believe Tyson would've destroyed him during his prime. It's not that Tyson was a better fighter, but the impact that he landed those blows couldn't be matched by any other fighter.

McNeely was more willing to fight than most boxers today. I respect The Hurricane.
When I was a kid I was really pissed that they stopped the fight early. Now that I'm a grown up, I have to admit they made the right decision. There was no need to send a dazed amateur back in for any type of exchange with Mike Tyson. On top of it, Mike got the win, people got to see some vicious action and knockdowns, and McNeeley was able to keep his dignity.

I work at a car dealer in Houston, TX and Mcneely came in a couple years ago looking to buy a car. He said that fight with Tyson messed him up. Last punch messed his head up for good, never been the same since. Felt bad for him you know, seemed like a nice guy.
25 years ago today !!! I remember a lot of people and a lot of alcohol that night at my house to watch Mike Tyson return after a 4 year absence to fight a moron from just 3 towns away.

When Tyson went to prison they manufactured a few guys into superstars so that they could carry the sport and then fight Tyson after he got out of prison. McNeely fought bum after bum and had an impressive record going into the Tyson fight and the media hyped it up as a big clash of titans. He actually thought he was going to win because everyone around him worked to help prop up the illusion that he was the next big thing and a real equal to Tyson when he wasn't.
