When I listen to this song, I can't help but think of the heartwrenching stories of the immigrants/asylum seekers who risk their lives crossing into the United States, through some of the most dangerous deserts anywhere in the Americas.

I think it's primarily about asylum-seekers from Mexico and Central America, who find their hopes dashed by, take your pick: the Mexican government, the U.S. government, coyotes, and associated cartel elements
