  • My Jujitsu teacher Neil Torrey is a brilliant mad scientist! He taught these 9 submissions using this guard sequence. It is a super smooth, flowing submission sequence that is meant to counter the last. Meaning if you try one submission and someone defends it... You can counter it and then keep countering it. How amazing is that?!
We all learn from somebody and we put our own style into what we've learned, making it our own, short, tall skinny or heavy, taking what we've learned from all the great Jiu-Jitsu practitioners and making it our own. - Neil Torrey

I firmly believe in having a decent to strong ground game to survive in a fight. Thoughts???

Phenomenal as always Sensei Ichi, I truly enjoy your Brazilian jiu-jitsu, ground fighting and submission tutorials. Just like grapplers need to incorporate striking into their martial arts arsenal, in case they cannot grapple, throw or submit someone on the ground, we stand up striking stylists, need to learn how to deal with grappling and submission techniques, should we end up in such a situation.
Simply put these days it is not sufficient to just know simply one or the other. The modern day martial artist needs to be complete and competent in all aspects of combat, not an absolute expert in all of them, but have a general good, sound knowledge and understanding of them Osu!🇦🇺🇲🇽🥋👍😊👊

Because Shotokan karate and Tang Soo Do have have essentially the same forms one would think that the tang soo do crowd would adopt the shotokan bunkai as demonstrated on the YT channel
"Practicalkatabunkai". But they don't. Why is that, and what would happen in a tang sso do school if the students started doing bunkai, or even something more modern like 52 Blocks?

From what I understand of Bunkai, it is the interpretation of what the techniques are truly doing in each kata. Is that correct? In our school, we definitely teach what each movement is actually doing in our forms. We even do forms interpretations in which one person performs the form and another has 3 attackers and demonstrates what we are reallly doing in the form.

I agree, great to evolve. I train under a man named Neil Torrey, he teaching our Jujitsu program at my American Tang Soo Do school. Do you live in the area?
It works great with Tang Soo Do. I feel that having a well balanced diet of stand up and ground game is extremely important. After all most fights do end on the ground.
