White America's dropped a bomb on Hiroshima killing hundreds of thousands and then there was peace! A black man speaks of peace, has a gun in a poem...you want to call the cops!!! Fuck you mick!!!
man. i wish i had been born a couple years earlier. I'm 15 and pretty much missed most of the real hip hop and rap. I'm tryna find out more on it, and the lyrics i'm hearin from this brotha is undescribable.

alot of kids know real hip-hop in fact we know alot more than most people think we do because we were born in the golden era i was listening to real hip-hop since i was born real talk
Malcolm X has everything to do with modern day rappers. One of Malcolm's major concerns was about black americans having a voice in America. I think Malcolm would be proud to see and hear rappers like nas, common, talib kweli, mos def, the roots, and any other rapper intelligently expressing themselves about the world around them and millions hearing their voice. No this may not spark some radical change but the potential is there and some modern rappers, though not many understand that.
I read your reply before the video started and when it came on I had two watch it three times before I could stop laughing and actually hear what he said...thanks LOL =)
Im 18 and i know real hip hop. Comnon, Most Def, Redman Method Man, The old Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Tupac, DMX, KRS One, Outkast, Keith Murry, just a few of my favs
"Certain” people (you know who you are) are afraid of what they do not understand. The knowledge that Common is preaching in this video is well above what you’ll ever comprehend. Honestly, I refuse to help anyone with any of the terminology that is used in this video. I understand it 100% and I encourage the rest of you who are smart enough to dissect what is being said to yield and not define his words to the others. Lets watch the ignorant spoil in their own fear of the unknown!
common is one of my closest friends and he told me personally that is a hand-made, human-hair wig. He went on to say that It is a throw-back worn by one of the original cast members of 227.
his new album (i think its called believer) he said hes going back to kanye, no id, and another producer i forget who did tracks for like water for chocolate. so back to his roots indeed
@PektheHero I did too. Maybe he intended to make a political statement of some kind. Personally I like the poem/video Common did with Mary J. Blige "Come Close."
@DJDav16 I understand there is a difference, but thank you for saying that. That is the first sentence i have heard in this tread that is very much true.
i love that line... ''I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun''... it isn't weird... it's just like a verse in the bible that says to walk softly and carry a big stick. All it means is that one must promote peace always... and kno the power that one has.
"I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun." thats fire!
Common is so underrated its sickening. That talent is so amazing.
Common is for the people.... No Doubt
They should bring this back
"My people on the street gotta lota Pac' in them" ... Hold up a peace sign but, I carry gun.. Wow.
White America's dropped a bomb on Hiroshima killing hundreds of thousands and then there was peace! A black man speaks of peace, has a gun in a poem...you want to call the cops!!! Fuck you mick!!!

One of the best to bless a mic Common is the truth and a true revolutionary at heart.
Can anybody see J. Cole on here?
when?
Look at Cole on 105 with angle Martinez and on David Letterman
I think that's where he gets the line "my uzi it weighed a ton"
+Neekimu Jardim Public Enemy had a song called "Miuzi Weighs A Ton" years before.
Uncle Ruckus i definitely do
He has put all the words together that has been floating in my minds for years.

Jordan Saldivar not just Ferguson, but any event that occurred before and will occur after. The People's struggle against oppression is timeless
man. i wish i had been born a couple years earlier. I'm 15 and pretty much missed most of the real hip hop and rap. I'm tryna find out more on it, and the lyrics i'm hearin from this brotha is undescribable.

Common is what we need more of in hip-hop. Guy is a genius.
He doesn’t even talk like this anymore
I'm not one to look for poetry readings, but i had to watch this one when i saw that it was Common. Definately NOT disappointed.

Common is the truth. Truly talented. "How can we follow leaders when its a corrupt one? " The Government's a G-Unit and they might Buck Young"
Wow Common, need more rappers like you
I'm at a young age too but you can still enjoy artists like YMCM and OFWG but just be aware of what's really going on.
This guy is a born actor....i came here because i remember him from smoking aces....what a champion :)
Loved it! "I hold up the peace sign, but I carry a gun"
I read your reply before the video started and when it came on I had two watch it three times before I could stop laughing and actually hear what he said...thanks LOL =)
i respect the fact that you actually defended yourself. i hate it when people say it and leave it like they're right
I love Common, one of the coolest rappers in my book
Absolutely brilliant! What a lad!
I wish this still was on TV...hip hop has totally gone left..because shows like this don't exist anymore.
Always have and will always love Common.
gwan...like "go on and" all rolled in one
"my uzi weigh's a ton" is a method man line from the song stomp with the big dogs.
Judges a long long time ago used to where wigs, kinda like that the one common is wearing. It fits with what his poem is about.
Im 18 and i know real hip hop. Comnon, Most Def, Redman Method Man, The old Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Tupac, DMX, KRS One, Outkast, Keith Murry, just a few of my favs
GOD DAMN!!!!!!

This poem is so scathingly raw, and revolutionary. It's like reading a passage out of a james baldwin or frantz fanon book!
just like that, he keep me stunned!
Heh...the fur on his head is in style at my school now. LOL!
It's winter here in COLDlanta.
"They want us to hold justice but you handed me none." Word.
Yes I agree Cakrue...that hat is ridculous just like his new album. Peace.
@DJDav16 Hes actually protested against hip hop too with "I Used To Love Her". Just thought I should add that too.
@TheUGoMusicChannel i have to agree, but i love common's style...him and mos...oooooooo!!!!
common is one of my closest friends and he told me personally that is a hand-made, human-hair wig. He went on to say that It is a throw-back worn by one of the original cast members of 227.

Common needs to do more of this...
@duke1fan90 Yeh I heard that song, and he made several good points about the current state of hip hop. But at least he's staying true to its roots.
