Windy day in Indy and Tom writes just now, “Exciting news, we just lost power to the house and the Generac backup generator kicked right in. Woohoo!!!” His wife is now happy with the bill. 😊 “It switched smoothly back to utility power also”.
Must be nice. Wind blows all our money away and we're in a dark and cold house until the next disability check comes and there's enough left over to get it connected again. And strange looks from my dog when I eat a few bites of his food so I too don't starve to death.
200 IQ move by Joel to drill into the plumbing, so that he could get the customer off his back and busy with something else, so that he could actually get some work done.
I am a 75 year old Systems Integration Engineer. Tell your customer that I love the fact of his pre-design work and that project you are wiring. As a note I did my Electrical Apprenticeship in the 60's
Many, many years ago, my parent's moderately sized mobile home was on propane. Their average monthly bill was in the %90 in winter (On the Colorado River). After natural gas was obtainable their monthly average gas bill was in the lower $10s.
Was lucky to never drill into a water line but while doing a job for a guy that I went thru school gave him a great price to install a receptacle. Drilled into the 100 amp service cable that had a loop before entering his house and covered over with aluminum siding. The 28' extension ladder that I had on my van did not reach ultility wires so I had to spend a hour to get my 36' ladder. Instead of making maybe $25 for a few hours job lost money. Just glad I did not set the house in fire. Worst part he asked me if I know what I was doing. Told him they never covered drilling into hot service cables in three years of Vo Tech classes & apprenticeship.
You blew it ? You're only supposed to blow fuses. If he's your BEST customer, he'll understand that things happen. It's sometimes unavoidable. Got to watch those sneaky penetrations too. Great video again. Thanks for posting.
I heard a war story about a telephone installer using a bell-hanger drill bit install a residential station line. He drilled up from the basement but he misjudged what he was measuring. It turned out that he had drilled up through a hardwood floor an into a piano leg.
@@brucerauch8024 Not a chance. Not even one of our people. But it does remind me of the day that one of the installers asked me to come look at something he didn't want to do. He wanted to make safe electric prior to drilling in a bank's data center. Our phrase was, "There ain't no good way." The bank objected because they were running payroll on the mainframe. This is where smart people would come back tomorrow to finish that detail. And that's what I told _my_ boss. He came to see for himself, to his credit. "I'll do it," he said, just before everything went dark and silent. You can imagine the rest.
10:35 Rather than use that external box surge protector, Siemens makes an affordable double breaker style surge protector, you can even double them up to get more protection with the second gen version, you already have planned for a bunch of free breakers. Could even place surge protection easily in each sub panel.
@@TheTurpin1234 The next gen 65KA $100 half the price of the 100KA version shown. They say you can double up... he could have put one at each his three subpanels. Plus probably plug on neutral so easy swap in and out...
@ Jefferson electric @12:44 about communication have you ever thought of some type of walk-in talkies with/without ear peace ? You can have your employees have take them home for emergency contact also if you have a fleet you should have a cb radio or some kind of communication that’s not a phone cause sometimes there’s always something wrong with a signal..
Natural gas isn't "less efficient" -- it just has less energy content. Propane has less energy content than gasoline, but likewise, that doesn't make propane inherently less efficient than gasoline.
Everytime I see big SE cables I wonder...do they ever send 2 wires connected for L1 and 2 wires connected for L2? I am 150 feet off the street with a buried service in pvc. With the onset of car charging a 200 amp service is no longer king. I dont think there is ANY possible way to pull a 1000kcmil wire through that pipe. I could fathom a SECOND 4-0 aluminum feed for L1 and a SECOND one for L2. Could they tie those 2 cables for L1 to a Polaris connector and the same for L2 to feed the meter and now have 400 amp capacity without starting all over?
I believe what you’re describing is a parallel feed. For example, if your SE conduit carries 2 current carrying conductors, one grounding conductor, and one grounded conductor, you would add a second pipe and fill it with the same conductors. You would NOT put all your L1’s in one pipe and your L2’s in the other
Personally I don’t like customers on top of me … for one it makes the workers nervous . You paid us for a service we went over the job now let us work .

Factssss 😂
Good one

Y’all special!
In part 1 he told you not to drill into his plumbing! What were you thinking? Good thing he doesn’t have another daughter!🤣
oh i like that washer box idea got to remember that one
Love this channel, makes me feel better to see that you guys are human and make mistakes occasionally too.
Appreciate seeing things early 😆
Joel’s a good dude.
Daw schucks! 😊
This guy needs to get a channel!!!
They sell a flush mount kit for those surge protectors
Just found out about that!! Where were you in July?!?!?😅
@@joelwalsman773 haha waiting for the video 😅 I’m sure it looks good tho

not a big fan of em but i keep a cple off 1/2 inch shark bite ball valves with 3/8,3/4,1 inch to 1/2 couplings just in case
Great vid. More stabila levels please.
Yep I've done that. It sucks but happens.
I wasn't aware RUclips could recommend "unlisted" videos... I don't think I should be seeing this just yet. 😅

I think the idea with the large external box is more surge protection. No way they can fit all that stuff into just a double breaker.

How long is the wire run from the generator to the ATS? I didn't catch it if you mentioned it.

What happened to part 3. I swear I had watched the beginning of it????
It’sa comin’ !
3:42 Could set up wireless earpieces to communicate to each other rather than yelling through the walls.
In a pinch I use cell phones on speakerphone. Otherwise I have Dewalt radios with ear pieces on planned jobs.
The Zello walkie talkie for smart phones is great for stuff like this. Can even be used to talk to people miles apart.
