The $10k cheaper Polo wasn't as fast. The VW in that price range to go for is the Golf GTI. The variable conditions also make the Mini slower than it could be, it also makes the GRMN seem faster than it is.
they all run under the same conditions , noone was favored , in wet conditions the toyota won hands down and was undisputed...They can test them all in dry conditions to see what happens but things won t change much... toyota handles as well as the rest 3 ( not saying it handles better ) in the corners and we know from the drag races and this last track run that it owns them in the straights.... so its only logical it ll win everywhere ..."by an inch or a mile" ...depending the conditions and surfaces they are running ...
Not true. As a long-time VW fan I compared the previous Polo GTI to a Clio RS Cup on some rough roads and found the Clio more comfortable. I've covered 45000km in my Clio over the last 3 years on a mixture of road surfaces and have never found it wanting.
Germans are not the best when it comes to hatch cars Renault was always the fastest since the megan 2000 and now the Japanese are attacking with this fast little machine

I do find it rather annoying that the presenters refer to these cars as 'Warm' hatches. I would consider a warm hatch as something like your R-Line, GT, GSi, ST-Line, etc. Perhaps an argument could be made that the cars with auto gearboxes are 'Warm' but I can't see how you could possibly say that a car as aggressively set up as the Yaris GRMN is simply 'Warm'. These are hot hatches. Cars like the Focus RS and the A45 are simply 'Mega' or 'Super' Hatches. They are just insanely quick.
Completely agree and even the hot hatch scale works... warm, hot, super ect. But nobody wants to call a Golf R a Mega hatch and calling a Polo GTI a warm hatch is FUN. And since we are talking hot hatches, that is enough said. "Warm" hatches for the win!
Looks like facts disagree. The Focus ST does a 6.5 on 0-100km/h with a manual. Renault Trophy 220 RS does it in 6.6 with an auto. Honestly not that impressed with the current Clio RS. not enough torque and too expensive for a Clio. So no not all will bang a Focus ST. I wonder why they did not use the new Fiesta ST in this test.
Yay the Yaris won ! I love that GRMN. Its the best looking and best sounding out of all 4, and the supercharger is just brutal power non stop, no turbo lag !
They did put together Cooper JCW 3dr, Polo 2.0GTI, Yaris GRMN, Fiesta 1.5ST, Peugeot 208 GTI. The winner was Yaris, followed by ST, Cooper JCW 3dr, and Polo GTI was almost head to head with Peugeot GTI. I dont remember if the JCW was auto or manual. Oh there was also Clio RS not Sure what spot it held
the toyota and renault looks like a blast to drive, the polo have such higher end looking interior and is definitely worth the money, the mini and polo are the kindest to the eyes which makes it easier to drive around without people looking at you all day. if money was not an issue, i'd easily chose either the yaris or renault, but as a daily, the other 2 are definitely my pick.

Can we PLEASE have a flying lap. Like to get a real comparison of how these cars perform against machinery like a normal lap time? I mean a standing start means nothing in racing. if this car on a flying lap does below a 1:30.00 that means something. If it’s a standing start it means nothing.

Charles Scott Clio? Its a Renault. You will be visiting the dealer often to get things fixed. Yaris ugly? It has more character than the dullard Polo, which is just 38mm longer but the GRMN has a longer wheelbase, so probably more stable (better for long journeys on the motorway) and has more headroom :) Only size difference is its a bit narrower than the Polo. As for torque, the power delivery is different between the turbo and supercharger but both are able to do long distances. Why do you need more torque to do that ? Gearing has more to do with perceived comfort at speed, and in case you hadnt noticed the GRMN is faster than the Polo to 60mph :D
