Regardless of what people think of his looks, he handled this drama with so much class. This guy has a lot of character. It's no wonder he got cast for this role
@Gia Gia Simu Liu is not good looking by current Kpop flower boys trend in China, but if you imagine Shang Chi as someone who like Guan Yu from Romance of Three Kingdom, Simu Liu is actually the best choice. His looks is resembling many war deities statue in Chinese temple.
@@chunglee7353 Eddie Peng accented English don't meet Hollywood standard. So, he will be eliminated solely by his fluency in English. Also don't forget his agency is based in China, makes him harder to get. Actually if you are looking North American actor that pass current Kpop flower boys beauty standard in China, Ludi Lin who play Liu Kang in 2021 Mortal Kombat movie or Zack the black ranger in 2017 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie would be better choice (but he need to gain more weight because his current look is too anorexic, but he was OK in Power Rangers) . He actually was auditioned also for Shang Chi role but lose to Simu Liu. And also, Simu Liu would be better choice if you based Shang Chi looks on Guan Yu from Romance of Three Kingdom, not by flower boys standard.
@Gia Gia To be honest even by old Hongkong and Taiwanese movie star standard, Simu Liu would not be accepted to play lead role in Romantic Love story that targeting women audience if you now how was Jimmy Lin looks back in 90s. That's why a girl in Asian Boss interview scored him 3/10. Flower boy looking male celebrities have been a thing in 90s HK and Taiwan before Korean wave (Korean wave was started in East and South East Asia after world cup soccer 2002) , the difference just old HK-TW flower boys looking idols didn't put heavy make up on his face, but they have narrow small face with v shaped jaw (Aaron Kwok, Jimmy Lim, Alec Su, Jay Chou) like most current kpop male idols. Simu Liu would be okay for role in non-romance movie like Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. Pre-Hollywood Jackie Chan used to play comic relief character rather than "charming prince" troop. And for Guan Yu and war deities statue reference, even back in 90s no teenage girls nor young adults women in Chinese communities (both Mainland and Overseas) would say he is handsome charming prince, he is more like middle age uncle with intimidating looking. That's actually fit for war god, just not for charming prince. (Just for another comparison, Kratos in War of God video game franchise is also not qualified for Disney Charming prince).
As a person of Asian ethnicity, I’m embarrassed how casual that looks and beauty are prioritized in Asian culture and how appearance is often a measure of competence and intelligence and who you are as a human being. It's infantile, but its so deeply ingrained in our culture, unfortunately.
But can u all stfu, cause in the comics shang chi's character design was inspired by bruce lee, this guy not even close to him, just imagine bruce lee in ur head, Ikr? And thanks to all the western ppl who now thinks that asians have to get surgery to get double eyelid, and also asians prefer the feminine look because of kpop, dummies, even long before kpop was there u can see the feminine side from male clothings, it was always there. Random other continent ppl without studying history be like ok this is this and that is that.
WTF..😂😂😂Like white American and White Eurasian DIDN'T DID THE SAME 😂😂😂, they did THE SAME to their own people. And to the Asian, At Hollywood expecially, when they looking for an ASIAN, they MOSTLY look for the MIX RACE ASIAN, why..???because the jaw structure, eye, and face structure are generally simply 'Looks good' than a Non mix Asian blood. Find the name such as : Daniel Henney, Ludi Lin, Brandon Lee, and the other mix asian race woman that i even cannot mention because its too much than the non mix Asian. CMON, in entertain business, beside Racist issue, they also don't care about Race represent, they just want something that Sell able on international.
Imagine landing the biggest role of your life and people from your own community make a video calling you ugly. Smh. They should be supporting Simu theres not many asian actors especially one that lands a huge blockbuster movie.
Stephen B. Smith the video was made in China. I don’t think they understand what Asian-Americans go through in this country when it comes to entertainment and racism.
@@OutspokenIntrovert1 Asian Boss is based in Australia, where Simu is a part time resident. Plus the creators understand what asian people in the western world go through. The stereotypes bullying and racism.
OutspokenIntrovert China should just be happy that they r making a Asian hero based off their culture n not should even complain cuz Asian don’t always have the opportunity to land on a big show😒
He’s a class act. I can’t wait for this movie. I don’t understand why China - which as their own film and TV industry that casts entirely Chinese actors - would expect that a Hollywood movie should take a role away from an Asian-American or Asian Canadian actor to give it to an actor from China? Chinese actors in China don’t face barriers to getting jobs based on their race - but Asian American actors in the West definitely do. Simu Liu is a frickin’ snack and a half and doesn’t need to change a thing - especially not to suit the beauty standards of an Asian market with a serious plastic surgery addiction. Just be his beautiful self (inside and out).
its because china does not give a shit about representation in the west. and beauty standards in china are honestly embarrassing. everyone there just uses insane crazy app filters to make their eyes look huge and their faces thinner.
Very contrary to what you've assumed, Chinese film and TV cast *actual* western actors when there's a role that requires people of that cultural background lol. not hating on simu tho, he's a very decent guy and i agree he doesnt need to change or be apologetic. but if you've cared to pay attention to the actors mentioned by the people in the interview who would have fit the role, you'd see that none of them were the "plastic surgery" type. not all asians/chinese like the "plastic sugery" look, certainly not the people in the interview. i don't think people were all saying he's "ugly" either, it's more so that the media is trying to guide them that way, same way as western media trying to guide others into thinking chinese people only judge from the looks when the only person who was asked the question of "do you think he fits the shang chi role" said "first of all, we've never heard of the actor so we're not sure of HIS ACTING SKILLS". surprise yall, looks isnt the first thing that comes to mind when chinese people think of actors. LOL.
Who the hell called him ugly he is such a good-looking down to earth person. Don't judge someone by his looks and i know its most of the asian pple calling him ugly coz he does not fit those skinny chicken legs asian stereotypes! Well he has my full support!
ugly or not is totally irrelevant, he landed a leading role to represent the asian community in mainstream media, soooo....Massive kudos to Simu for all his success as well as being able to stand up for himself so gracefully and be humble, positive and honest in his response. :) Love a man with class and confidence. that's attractive to me, and i'm sure a lot of other people too. I knew he was talented after initially seeing him in Wong-fu's shorts, and watching him succeed on kim's convenience and now soar with this new role. I respect Asian Boss' content, but was disappointed to see this "had to be" made into a video because it was a "popular opinion" amongst the chinese community. To each their own, i get it, but damn there's just something about the video that threw me off. Maybe because all the way all questions were phrased, or because the interviewer didn't seem to follow up to explain beauty standards in both cultures, instead it was all left to the participants... and the bottom line of all the comments from the participants were like "but yeah he's ugly." Really Poor compared to Asian Boss' usual videos, i think. Also, all the participants in the Asian Boss video didn't know who Simu was. It would've been interesting to get a few that know who he is for their opinion too to see if there was a rebuttal, it just seemed very one sided, compared to their other videos.
I am so proud of you. I wish you hadn't seen or heard or could just ignore those ugly comments however you handled it with dignity and class. I am Chinese and I didn't know who you were before but now I think you are beautiful and more Chinese people start to think the same way now. So you gotta make sure the movie is so good to shut people's mouths. I believe this wasn't personal to you, it just some Chinese people are very unhappy and angry about themselves but there's no way out, so anonymously bullying a public figure on social media without consequences by rejudging your look is the only way and "right" to express their anger which they probably don't know why. Especially when you don't have enough exposure in China, and you're Canadian, so you're considered "not their type of Chinese". Besides, they don't expect that you will hear it anyways since they are never been heard inside the "wall".
He's definitely the whole package! I love how he sees everything trough his pov, he's smart, handsome and cute in so many ways, humourous guy of course, and really talented 😭🔥👍🏻plus his athletic body tho.... made my day💖
“You’re not attractive enough” is so messed up like talent is what really matter, there’s more than just looks and what sad is that his own community the one who try to drag him down , self hate at its finest
I really find his situation interesting because East Asia's standards of beautiful men are often considered to be pretty boys with feminine features, but those men wouldn't be looked at for roles in Hollywood because Hollywood's ideal man is more in line with traditionally masculine men like Simu Liu. Anyway, Simu is famous now. He doesn't need to bother with irrelevant opinions about him.
Well-said 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻And he’s not ‘ugly’ because beauty encompasses more than just your facial features, intelligence, wit, generosity, kindness, persistence and let’s face it, when we all turn 100, none of has attracted facial features anyways so if anyone has only 1 definition of beauty, you’re doomed
Simu Liu is the most handsome and attractive man in Asian, he can fight, he can dance, his acting was awesome, he even have a beautiful body, far more better than the pretty boys only know how to sell face
Hats off to Simu. He handled it very well. I don't know if I could do that. Its so sad that his own people calling him ugly. He was the first guy who ever spoke Chinese on the Marvel panel but they are hating him because he is not pale enough. I am actually happy that the West has a different beauty standard than Chinese people. By saying that they only consider pale looking people as beautiful with white people features they are saying that the majority of their population is ugly and only Chinese people who look like white people are considered beautiful. Simu Liu looks amazing in the new trailer. Way to go! I wish you all the best with the movie!
I can assure you that Simu's skin tone is not the main reason he's considered "ugly". His skin tone is like most Chinese people. He's not considered dark, he's in the middle. Skin tone is not the issue. His face just doesn't fit what is considered beautiful in East Asia, it's that simple. He's not ugly, but not leading-man good looking.
@@qwerttzizzi Not really. Like everyone, no one likes extreme proportions. What is too thin or too thick are less desirable and that's for all races. If you consider the more desirable features as white, that's on you. In a way, it's patronizing that you think we like white features as if Asians cannot look otherwise than your own stereotype of what an Asian should look like and expect Asians to comply to that image you have of Asians. I find Tony Leung good looking. Do you think he looks white?
@@canuck21 no what I am saying that people in China but also in India prefer features what are not at all common within the population. And quite these features are very common within the white population. This is also affected through the whole world wide marketing with the white models..so far that everyone wanna look like them..and it became a standard for beauty..but this is weaking in the west..except for Asia..this is just my observation.. Tony is quite normal asian looking..you are right..
What a class act Simu. I did a double take when I first heard about the “ugly” comments. I thought I had misread or misunderstood the comments because I find Simu very attractive. I was always baffled by the ubiquity of eye surgery among many people of Asian descent and the emphasis on cosmetic appearance particularly amount Koreans. I was dismayed when my Chicana goddaughter rejected my Latino Barbie which I gave her, for the blond Barbie that someone else gave her. The hegemony of Western standards of beauty is not only harmful to non-white populations, but also has toxic consequences among mainstream American and western youth. Before I go on a long diatribe about the absurdity and harm caused by standards of physical beauty, I just want to commend Simu’s equanimity, honesty, and grace in his response to the thoughtless and cruel comments. Your integrity and dignity speak volumes.
Tbf, korea has been getting better with it. There's like a pretty large amount of actors that don't get eye surgery and stick to monolids as of late. Atm Seo Kang Joon is really popular for his looks. With women the progress has been slower, but its getting there. Squid game had Jung Hoyeon and Parasite had Park Sodam, both of whom are considered attractive but don't fit into the modern beauty standards. It's not perfect, but I think the perception of these looks are going to get better overtime. Unless Ccinema or Jcinema overtake Kcinema in popularity, then all that progress will go down the drain.
No homo but Simu is extremely good looking by any standards. My family all loved him in the movie. We should boycott Asian Boss for propagating this nonsense
I think you are going to kill this role. Been a fan since I found Kim's Convince on Netflix and found you very personable and relatable as a guest on JK News.
I was shocked about the fact that this was something Marvel never did...but there was so much deep content respectfully of Chinese culture. I hung tough in NYC Chinatown with my buddies from Brooklyn Tech in the 70scand they would buy the comic and burn it. This had so many elements of the culture that it was mindbogling and truly a tribute. Your ancestors are with you and understand YOU gonna be doing sequels for the next 7 years.
Love the story about your (Asian?) buds from the 70s burning the original comic. As an Asian American it was such an amazing experience to see our specific Asian-American culture presented with such love and understanding. Regarding messed up beauty standards: My mom told me I was ugly because of my Asian features. So I consider it delicious irony to be deeply attracted to Simu's very Asian features. Now I scan the crowd for dudes with those hooded eyes, LOL. Hope other women are doing the same. Time to change things up!
I am a fan of Simu Liu and I think he's perfect for the role of Shang Chi. But I do watch Asian Boss from time to time, and I don't think they deserve as much backlash from the video as they did, sure the video was click baity but the interviewer was quite mutual throughout, and the premise of the video was that Chinese social media thought Simu wasn't up to their standards for beauty, and that was what was asked. They didn't out right say you were ugly, except for one girl, but you're bound to be seen as undesirable for people from time to time.
@@galacticemperor8468 How is the Logan Paul situation and this related in any way LOL. They're a journalism channel, and it was just a click bait topic which every news related media outlet does. You seem overly butt hurt with all the caps, chill out and stop typing nonsense.
bob le the fact that the whole premise of the video was “is he too ugly?” Is just wrong. If the question was something along the lines of “are you excited about the new Asian superhero?” Or something positive. Then fine. If people wanna talk about his looks, that’s on those individuals. But no. Asian Boss decided to make it about his looks. They made the choice to make a video focusing on something negative.
I was going to refrain from replying, but just because you strung another moron into the conversation. Your analogy is moronic beyond belief and if you think it holds relevance you should not be debating anyone. It's essentially saying, stealing is "a bad thing", and Hitler murdering millions of Jews being "a bad thing". Or was it too "difficult" for you to understand how stupid your comparison was. As for the guy below, this is journalism and rather is quite tame compared to most outlets because they didn't make up bullshit in the title and drive some false narrative, they didn't make the video in spite of Simu, they very likely don't give a shit about him at all, it just so happens that some people from China had this view so they took advantage of it to make a controversial video.
That’s what I thought too. Beauty standards are very different in China. And for such a big movie, you would think the director would also choose a famous Chinese star. But Marvel chose someone who isn’t any of the above. Sure, Simu may fit the American or Canadian standards, but if you’re marketing to people in China you have to do it right.
The East's beauty standards are honestly bullshit. I can say this as an Indian who lives in Australia. When I went back to India I got so many comments about how I don't look beautiful anymore because my skin is darker due to being in the sun more often. It's the same skin I get compliments for here in Australia. Beauty is subjective but character isn't. True beauty really is from the inside.
As an Asian, I am very proud of you. Your joyous personality and can-do attitude make you an attractive person. I like to see more of you in many more sequels. People who called you ugly are just mean and jealous of you. Just be yourself.
First, I watched the scrolling messages....So, I know they reinforce the obvious: you are quite the handsome guy. (small eyes...give me a friggin' break!) ..but then, you maturely go on to take the attempts at bullying and/or really warped discussions about beauty and attractiveness, and turn them into a "teachable moment" ! After handsome, you can add more than a few more adjectives: mature, thoughtful, articulate, sensitive, positive, insightful....I guess i just like /admire people who work at making things better instead of tearing things down. Good for you, Simu!
The problem is very simple. Chinese and eastern Asia in general have a very feminine taste in men. It's weird. I know. If you check that Asian Boss video(They took it down), they asked the chinese crowd who should play Shang Chi according to them. All the suggestions were these guys who look very feminine. Small triangular faces. In the rest of the world, we like broader masculine features. Something like George Clooney, Tom Hardy etc. My point is, Simu Liu is damn handsome. 6 Billion people agree with me. Excluding Chinese 1 Billion.
Bro, what you said is inherently whitewashed and racist. The idea that Asia likes "feminine men" is a fucking stereotype. A lot of Kpop idols have bangs that cover their face (which is considered feminine in the west) but if you look at their jaws from the side they usually have sharp masculine jaw lines. If you look up "Taecyeon shirtless" you will see that he's insanely more masculine, more broad and handsome than Simu Liu. If you're picky about picking a Chinese person and not an Asian person, he's Korean and not Chinese but north China has a population of 164,823,136 and there are many men who look like that. Sima is not ugly, he's just looks like a very average uncle in the Asian community. His face is not charismatic to the Asian community in the east, that's the truth whether you like it or not. You don't have the right to tell them their suggestions are wrong. You don't have a right to tell them to not be disappointed when they are. Just because they disagree with Sima Liu's casting choice, doesn't make them wrong. Unfortunately the pool of handsome and masculine male Asian actors, and asian actors is few in America because it has been less than 100 years of migration to America from Asia. Here is the real problem, if Sima Liu's movie flops because of the Asian community not even liking it, Hollywood wont make another Asian lead male casted film again. And that is what East Asians are worried about.
The feminine taste in men is real for the younger generation but not for the older generation which I belong to and I'm not just talking about the Chinese but also East Asian and South East Asians tastes which have similar taste. I myself find many current Asian actors too delicate and too perfect like they're photoshoped with too perfect skin. I'm of the generation who liked the likes of Andy Lau, Tony Leung or Felix Wong. The 80's and 90's Hong Kong actors type. I'm going to be honest here and say that Simu Liu is not considered good looking in neither generation. He's not ugly but very average in the face. Of course his body is top notch, but his face is average-looking.
The idea of masculinity varies throughout countries, what’s considered feminine here is not considered feminine there and vice versa. It’s not weird it’s just different cultures. But at the end of the day, we’re not here to discuss that, we’re here for Simu and nothing else.
You don’t represent 6 billion people by the way. Don’t sound like CCP saying they represent people of PRC. He is so so looking and definitely not good looking. The guys the girls think that are more fit for the movie are definitely not that feminine looking. They are actually the manly ones and not from the feminine pool. Like tony Leung that is playing the villain is viewed as a handsome man in Asian eyes, would you consider him feminine as well? Majority rules, if Asians don’t think he is good looking, then he really is not. He can be a good comedian though.
I used to be a Simu Liu hater 😭 I grew up with a judgmental Asian family and Asian media. Beauty standards are very different. You are enough and I'm sorry for everything you went through. Diversity is still nice and people still wish for an Asian Chris Evans for a super hero etc. You're not ugly, but people have very high standards for Asian representation.
Beauty is largely subjective. Asian beauty standards are also extremely influenced by colonial ideals. Simu Liu out there are Shang Chi is doing everyone a favour by finally being an representation of many Asian diaspora.
I hate to sound so blunt but beauty is subjective and honestly it shouldn’t matter to someone as successful and talented as Simu he should have just ignored it and moved on. If they said a lot more hurtful things aside from simply calling him “ugly” then that’s different. But regardless of how attractive you think you are there will be people out there who think you aren’t. The same concept goes with people who think they’re really unattractive, there will be people out there that actually like you.
Great positive word of wisdom! I’m so happy you have strong self esteem!!! Love your personality and high spirit. Keep it up and I definitely adore you and you are super handsome!!!
can i wait to see this movie simu shang chi and the legend of ten rings when i watch marvel's iron fist season 2 on netfilx it was great the actor plays finn jones he played iron fist danny rand
He might not look the best but he really suits the character and he did put a lot of effort into his role and making this film enjoyable for y'all He deserves his role Tbh i don't think he's handsome myself but i still think he's cute and has wonderful traits Appearance doesn't matter that much
Your personality shines through like a care bear stare bro. All the best for your career!! You are a very talented artiste. And nope, you are not ugly. Every one just has different preferences with regards to facial features. Hey, some say this nose is a prosperous nose. Like Jackie Chan. Fengshui is on your side.
"@Kush Kunte Chinese don't worship white people but instead hate em" That is a terrible thing to say for either side. Saying things like that only seeks to drive a wedge between people. I find that line of thinking disgusting. We have a small planet here and only getting smaller with over 6 billion people. We need to appreciate everyones differences.
I would say Simu Liu got the last laugh on his haters, who, sadly, seem to hate themselves. If they can't see how handsome this man is on the outside, and absolutely beautiful and charming on the inside, then something is REALLY wrong with THEM!!! Like he said, he's got absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of. He, his cast members, the director, producers and the entire Marvel team knocked the Shang Chi movie straight outta da park!!! Enjoyed the movie sooooo much, I've watched it repeatedly on Disney+. It's the Asian version of Black Panther, maybe even better. Culture in both films are beautifully portrayed and sensitively executed. Bravo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I'm a new, complete Simu Liu fan, and can't wait to see him on the People magazine cover as the Sexiest Man Alive!!! [I'm calling it NOW!!!]
Whatever his past posts were CONTROVERTIAL that spreads all over the internet i just wanted to say that people grow more and learn more from everyday lives. People tend to look at ure mistakes and start calling names because of that and it makes u want to disappear right? What i'm trying to say is...people do change, in a good way really. Maybe not now maybe not tomorrow or next week but SOMEDAY...we'll reflect on the things that we had done in the past and be better. Don't let ure past mistakes affected ure daily life people. Let go of your past and be someone, somebody that anybody will look up to. Please love simu liu and don't judge him because of his mistakes. I mean we all do experience that for once in a life time. Thanks for reading my ted talk.
Nono, they didn't say he's ugly. There was one respondent that said he's handsome. The majority were like, he's above average, but why didn't we get the most handsome Chinese man alive to play the first Chinese MCU superhero.
Not even out of spite! He's gorgeous! I vote yes for the next Sexiest Man Alive! I love all ethnicities and see the beauty in them all! I'm also bi(pan) sexual and see the beauty in ALL sexes! The first Asian man I ever fell for was Jet Li when I saw him in Lethal Weapon 5 maybe lol... I'm not sure, but I was in middle school! Not only did his looks leave me in awe, but his abilities were outstanding! Keep being you Simu! You're truly amazing and beautiful! Loved EVERYTHING about the movie and I LOVE AWKWAFINA as well! The chemistry was so great between them! 😘😍❤️
I don't understand why people are defending him. Like he is doing great in his career. The only people that need to be called out are people who would be disrespecting him and making him feel bad. However, people have an opinion about a public figure. I don't think its about whether he deserves success or not. It purely about does he look good ..and he does not. His body is great and fit. But he is not an Asian Representation of what we think is a beautiful man .... And that is ok....
However said that needs an eye test. Man looks good and did his job well. How often do an Asian guy is given a relatable character that is cool, funny and is good lookingl...like how often does it happen people! It's either kung fu guy stereotype and super human or nerd/ geek that's awkward or in the friend zone.
If you ever watch the Asian Boss video on this, all of those people answering aren't very attractive either. Weird to have super high beauty standards when you're a 3 at best.
Before his untimely death during another period the then up and coming action star hero Brandon Lee would have been best suited to portray the character and was in consideration to be potentially cast to play the part. This is an excerpt that was published on the Wikipedia website. "According to Margaret Loesch, former President and CEO of Marvel Productions, in the 1980s Stan Lee considered Brandon Lee for the role of Shang-Chi and met with the actor and his mother Linda Lee to discuss a potential movie or television series starring the character". According to additional information and content published on the Wikipedia website the original physical appearance of Shang-Chi was supposed to emulate the Martial Arts star Bruce Lee as stated "With artist Paul Gulacy, his visual appearance was modeled after that of Bruce Lee".
I'm Asian and I knew this conversion would come and Asians (as in East Asians and South East Asians) would not find Simu Liu good looking enough for the role. Let's be frank, had it been a white character, Marvel would have cast a good looking actor a la Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth but I suspect the people responsible for the casting simply do not understand Asian beauty standard because they have never really paid attention to Asian men. When white people say x Asian man is hot, I am always puzzled. We simply don't have the same beauty standard when it comes to Asian men. It's a different story with Asian women because white men have had Asian women fetish for quite some time. White people actually pay attention to Asian women. Having said that, I wish Simu Liu all the best and hope for a successful box office and I think he can win over the Asian public with his charisma and talent.
People in general have different standards. A 10 can be a 1 to someone else. Simu is a 9/10 for me. Where as he might be a 3 for you. It’s not just race. Even within the Asian community taste is different.
I agree with the fact that he is not has handsome has Marvel heroes like Captain America or Thor and he would not have been casted if he was white with the same level of good looks. There are so many incredibly hot chinese, japanese, korean and thailand actors (Chen Yi, Kim Soo Hyun, Woo Do Hwan, Deng Lung, Puttichai Kasetsin, Yang Yang, Park Seo Joon, etc… I could go on for hours) that would have been perfect for this role. sometimes I feel like Hollywood is deliberately choosing chinese actors not too handsome so they don’t gain in popularity. They’re afraid America will find out how many many asian men are really handsome. They cast gorgeous ones like Lee Jun Ki in zombie movies. But an asian Tsunami is on the move towards « white man countries » where the younger generations are deeply aware that asians are not inferior and are in fact cute, smart, funny and beautiful. A change is coming soon 😄 white males beware hahaha
@whatwhatwhat I am not attracted to Chris Hemsworth either but objectively I can't deny that he's a good looking dude. There's a difference between attraction and objective beauty. I can see why so many find him good looking. Not so with Simu Liu. It has nothing to do with conspiracy, just that Hollywood doesn't understand Asian beauty standard. You're wrong about Asians worshipping white guys. How do you explain the Asian idols then? They are considered good looking in Asia and they're Asian. I find many Asian actors good looking, but not Simu Liu.
@whatwhatwhat Not only have you never lived in Asia, you sound like someone who knows little about Asians in general. Do you even have Asian friends? Everyone likes big round eyes, no one likes tiny eyes regardless of race. Not all Asians have tiny eyes by the way. Why are you giving that feature to white people only? Arabs have big round eyes, Indians have big round eyes, black people have round eyes. If anyone is obsessed with white people, it is you. Objectively, isn't Chris Hemsworth's facial symmetric? Isn't he healthy looking? What else do you want? You know who is good looking in the movie? Tony Leung. That's a good looking Asian. You're going tell me he looks white 🙄?
@whatwhatwhat I know you're Asian, but you don't seem to know much about Asians. You're like a banana. Chris Hemsworth being good looking is pretty much fact. As I've already said, I'm not attracted to him but it's pretty much fact that he's above average. You don't seem to understand the difference between opinion and standard. It's like Mozart. You can dislike his music but you can't say that his music is crap.
I have been a fan since I saw MR. Kim, you were so funny in it. I saw the marvels movie and loved it and hope you do many more movies. I agree with you about Asia finding white features to be better. I think it is awful they push that so much and I saw it being in Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines. Lots of advertising to have white skin. Things have changed a lot since I was a kid and now I see many more Asian actors and models. You are a very sexy man and anyone saying you are not is crazy. Don’t waste your time watching garbage like that on youtube. I hope someday I get to see you in person. xo
I don’t understand how some people call him “ugly”, I’m completely at loss here. Did I miss “the beauty class” or something? People are crazy and being dishonest with themselves, coz we know that deep down, these people were just jealous. I think that even in Asian standard, his look is within the top tier zone on the list. I just… I don’t know. People are weird.
You have a mature strong face like Jackie Chan when he started out. You guys don't have that stereotype smooth face and Americans love they made you the hero and Leung the villain. Shang Chi was Lee's way of cashing in on the Kung Fu movie craze of the 70s and didn't give a phuq about respect. Black Panther came out in 66 the same year the Black Panther party was chartered and that shyt was called "Jungle Action" comics and as Black children we hated it cause all the villains were based on tribal animosities. Feige worked hard to upgrade all the comic characters to a WOKE audience.
Regardless of what people think of his looks, he handled this drama with so much class. This guy has a lot of character. It's no wonder he got cast for this role
nah, marvel should have got Eddie peng or Mark Chao
Exactly. I find simu Liu very attractive
Thanks to recent Kpop trend. Simu Liu would be OK as lead actor in 1980s HK movies.
whites also prioritize beauty, mostly for their male actors nowadays: chris evans, chris pine, chris hemsworth, henry cavill...
@TravelerPat there's jamie chung who's hot but she never gets a main role in a huge movie
No, it wasn't the same community, just the same race.
@@OutspokenIntrovert1
Asian Boss is based in Australia, where Simu is a part time resident. Plus the creators understand what asian people in the western world go through. The stereotypes bullying and racism.
@Elisangela Mariano
The producers literally made a video titled "Is Simu Liu Too Ugly?" or something like that. Get real.
OutspokenIntrovert China should just be happy that they r making a Asian hero based off their culture n not should even complain cuz Asian don’t always have the opportunity to land on a big show😒
Simu,
Your eyes are beautiful.
Your mind is beautiful.
Most of all, your soul is beautiful.
Don’t let anyone dim your light.
So beautifully said ❤
its because china does not give a shit about representation in the west. and beauty standards in china are honestly embarrassing. everyone there just uses insane crazy app filters to make their eyes look huge and their faces thinner.
LOL.
No one should complain that the film just doesn't need to be released in China
He’s hot af with a great personality! I don’t get what everyone’s problem is I’m sure he’ll smash the role!

Public in China simply say he is ugly because he doesn't pass Kpop Idol standard.
He’s not ugly, but he’s certainly not handsome either.

ugly or not is totally irrelevant, he landed a leading role to represent the asian community in mainstream media, soooo....Massive kudos to Simu for all his success as well as being able to stand up for himself so gracefully and be humble, positive and honest in his response.
“I have the utmost faith in my abilities” AHHH LIU ILY
Simu Liu I wish you nothing but success.
In all honesty, he’s one of the finest men I’ve ever seen. Face and Body #isaidwhatisaid🤷🏽♀️
He's handsome in my eyes.❤
Well-said 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻And he’s not ‘ugly’ because beauty encompasses more than just your facial features, intelligence, wit, generosity, kindness, persistence and let’s face it, when we all turn 100, none of has attracted facial features anyways so if anyone has only 1 definition of beauty, you’re doomed
he’s so cute tho
Simu Liu is the most handsome and attractive man in Asian, he can fight, he can dance, his acting was awesome, he even have a beautiful body, far more better than the pretty boys only know how to sell face
This guy...he could be a motivational speaker 😁
Hats off to Simu. He handled it very well. I don't know if I could do that. Its so sad that his own people calling him ugly. He was the first guy who ever spoke Chinese on the Marvel panel but they are hating him because he is not pale enough. I am actually happy that the West has a different beauty standard than Chinese people. By saying that they only consider pale looking people as beautiful with white people features they are saying that the majority of their population is ugly and only Chinese people who look like white people are considered beautiful.
Simu Liu looks amazing in the new trailer. Way to go! I wish you all the best with the movie!
No, he is ugly
I can assure you that Simu's skin tone is not the main reason he's considered "ugly". His skin tone is like most Chinese people. He's not considered dark, he's in the middle. Skin tone is not the issue. His face just doesn't fit what is considered beautiful in East Asia, it's that simple. He's not ugly, but not leading-man good looking.
@@canuck21 you guys like Asians who have white people features? Isnt it?😂
@@qwerttzizzi Not really.
Ok I like him very much, I want to know more about him. Such a beautiful personality and truly humble.
No homo but Simu is extremely good looking by any standards. My family all loved him in the movie. We should boycott Asian Boss for propagating this nonsense
Seems like a class act and a gentlemen. I think he's gonna do great.
He's not fishing for complements, but oh boy, he can reel me up! He's effing hottt!
Just saying.
He’s so freaking hot bruhhhhh that’s crazy
He's an average good looking asian guy not a super handsome guy like asian actor that we have today. He's not ugly at all and I feel sad for him.

You are talent as heck!! Kim's convenience on Netflix will get me through quarantine
I think Simu Liu is good looking, fuck those people who say he's not!.!.
This guy has an exceptional personality.
I think he’s so handsome people have a type I get that but I find him more attractive than Chris hemsworth 💕
he's hot tho??? i don't get it. like he's super attractive.
@@triplea_qgb1963 Marvel probably wanted an actor with perfect English and probably there was none among the Chinese stars.
Simu Liu is Very handsome💪
@LJM
Thank your like!
As an Asian, I am very proud of you. Your joyous personality and can-do attitude make you an attractive person. I like to see more of you in many more sequels. People who called you ugly are just mean and jealous of you. Just be yourself.
I didnt even look any "ugly" thing on him. He's just handsome.
Wow. Idk why I am crying... Thank you. That's very inspiring.
Someone below in comments called Liu a stereotype.Wow, just wow.

Oh my goodness! So incredibly handsome. I would be much too shy and intimidated to speak to him. And he's a teacher too! Ugh! Perfection! 🥰💖
Maybe asian boss does deserve to go bankrupt after all
How bizarre. Dude is not only not ugly, he is smoking hot. Absurd.
Exactly..forever the preference in America...what we think as most handsome...."Tall, dark, and handsome."
you are right . never go with the other peoples bad comments. you are very very good. my friend

Just came across this video. How can anyone call him ugly???? First of all, It's rude to call anyone ugly. Second, you're wrong! He looks great!
Well, the beauty standards in the east is completely different from the west.
east is very close minded
I hate to sound so blunt but beauty is subjective and honestly it shouldn’t matter to someone as successful and talented as Simu he should have just ignored it and moved on. If they said a lot more hurtful things aside from simply calling him “ugly” then that’s different. But regardless of how attractive you think you are there will be people out there who think you aren’t. The same concept goes with people who think they’re really unattractive, there will be people out there that actually like you.
Asian Boss called him ugly? If they did, boycott that channel.

That is a terrible thing to say for either side.

A change is coming soon 😄
white males beware hahaha
Damn, u very hot man, don't need to care what they said
I have been a fan since I saw MR. I hope someday I get to see you in person. xo
He looks like John Legend. He’s a good looking guy.
Asian here... Simu's not ugly by any means, but he's definitely not top tier...
You are my hero 💕❤️
Simu Liu 👍🏼
