To explain why Finnish sounds so aggressively different from Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian, it's actually a completely different language family! Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian are all Scandinavian languages, while Finland is part of the Finno-Ugric language family, including Estonian, Finnish, Sami, and even Hungarian!
@@xymaryai8283 There are few words that are similar. So it is debatable whether modern Hungarians are our distant cousins or not. Hell, i read or heard from somewhere once upon a time that Hungarian linguists and/or historians claimed that their people and language descended from completely different branch that wasn't Finno-Ugric and didn't want to be lumped into that kind of "inferior language" group or something like that.
That bit with Friedlander was accurate, depressing and funny as hell. You can also sleep soundly knowing that there is, at the very least, a single Finnish man who enjoys your content and thinks you're a pretty cool dude. Good stuff as always!

3:05 finnish is not a germanic language though it, with estonian and hungarian (and a bunch of smaller languages) are uralic, coming from northern [modern-day russia]. although uralic languages really like their agglutination as well (even somewhat common estonian words stretch out: "raamatukoguhoidjatelegi" (even for the librarians))
It says Suomi - Finland, because Swedish is the second language and most foreigners know English. Finland is commonly used in sweden too, allthough it really is Finska. Two birds with one stone. Also the clarification of the document under the nationality is also in three languages, Finnish, Swedish and English.
3:55 Finnish does not have umlauts. Ä and ö are independent letters. Because of this, they also cannot be represented with ae and oe like the German letter ä and ö. Nain and näin for example are unrelated words meaning “I married” (or in some context “I fucked”) and “I saw”.
Well, to be perfecty honest with you, that word you used (and were right about "epäjärjestelmällisyys" means disorganization or not organized) and the end there is just forcefully lenghtened and doesn't make sense even for a Finn. There are far better weird long words that does in practise make sense, like "lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas"(you're free to google translate it too). The ending of a word can point on who is involved in action that is being told as a verb. "Juoksen" = "I run" | "Juokset" = "You run" and in adition you can change it to past tense "Juoksin" = "I ran" | "Juoksit" = "You ran". also "jaa" = "share" | "jää" = "ice". Those dots do signify different pronouncification XD. Could never hate your reactions though, keep up the good work. As for your question about horrible drivers, no Finns are usually regarded as really good drivers. Only ride I've been on and was scared shitless was when I myself had been awake for over 24 hours and asked if my grandpa could drive us back home from their summer cabin which I initially drove us to (he was like few months off of losing his license and had recently went completely blind on one of his eyes).

no such thing as quick saving in this game! You can turn on or off permadeath when you create a character though. Once you are going, the only way to "save" your game is to quit the game, make a manual backup of your save file, and restart the game. If you die... you can always revert to your backup.

Regarding Finnish drivers, while I'm not from a small town, I have seen some... interesting driving styles compared to like Helsinki. When driving in Helsinki, everything and everyone works together in a smooth cohesive manner which makes joining lanes, dodging trams and so on easy. In Lahti, my hometown, its the opposite. We might be called The Finnish Chicago, but sometimes the attitude of drivers makes me think of NYC drivers. Everyone is so selfish. You wanna change a lane for whatever reason? "Nuhuh I was here first Ima speed to match you and keep you on that lane".. or if you DARE to overtake someone in a "high-class" car like BMW, Mercedes and so on, you better believe they'll take it personally and first speed past you, then start brake checking you... All of this might stem from someone else doing something to the second driver when they were learning, continuing this cycle. I usually drive just barely under the speed limits to annoy anyone tailgating me... this includes those temporary speed limits when there's a roadwork ahead. Some people disregard them if there are no workers present but me being the petty little shit I am, drive right below that limit...
