One of those all-time classic tunes: full-on and unashamed cheesy Euro-dance/rave, the offspring of earlier trance and happy hardcore... so many huge raves, so many amazing parties, so many memories. The 80s and early-mid-90s were unrepeatable times. So thankful I was there at the right age to enjoy the best of it :)
I think there is a very special power in many 90s hits - maybe it is to some degree because of nostalgia since I grew up during the 90s and always heard them at school parties etc, but some songs are especially powerful - Aqua has several songs like that, like for example "Roses Are Red", "My Oh My" and "Doctor Jones". A lot of 90s dance songs had great melodies, which becomes evident when they are played on piano.
Laurelindo Say what you want about cheesy pop music, but this song and most of Aqua's songs were always pretty clever and well produced compared to a lot of newer crap on todays top-lists. Their lyrics and videos were typically tongue-in-cheek, campy and self-aware and if you watch interviews and live performances with them it's evident they were quite nice and sympathetic and intelligent people. A very likeable piece of nostalgia.
