Just shows how water plays such a huge part in the overall beer tasting experience. I like to make hazy neipas that have eithe a 1:1 sulfate to chloride or 2:1 chloride to sulfate but to change it I make a pale ale just like this beer, hop bursted, whirpool hops, low bittering addition and make it a 2:1 sulfate to chloride and it makes the beer a lot drier almost more hurst quenching and the hops def present much more punch.
Well done for giving the percentages in the video (do it all the time please), also put the percentages of the malt grist in the description of the video too. Great stuff dudes!
Love your smash beer series. When you talk about marring 2 hops ( 1 that is very front forward and the other is in between) you could call that series "Crash beers"! Love the show!
Ah, that's a good idea. I think throughout the SMaSH series that we have learned there are hops that are better team players than others. I'll have to review the videos. - John
Holy shit!!! I've got hybrid nzh-107 and Motueka in my cart and was wondering how to use them in a recipie. I was fumbling on if I wanted to add a bittering hop at 60min(magnum) in a small dose and then add my NZ hops at 15min. So glad I found this video. Your SMaSH videos helped me pick my hops. I'm using the nzh-107 as a substitute for galaxy to try out. Would Rakau hops work at 15 minutes do you think?
I am still experimenting with Torriefied wheat. In non NEIPA beers when I want some wheat for head retention I feel like torrified wheat makes for clearer beers faster than malted wheat. If doing a wheat beer where I was using 40% or more then its malted wheat all the way. Golden Promise is not the same as "2-row". GP is a 2-row malt but in brewing terms GP is a a richers slightly darker malt than 2-row. When you see 2-row it usually means just simple malted barley as light as it can go. Cheers! -Mike
Our tap water comes from the Yorkshire Moors. I'm sure it's got plenty of sheep's urine in it but it makes great beer. Do you have access to sheep's urine as a possible water addition?
Ha ha - Ah jeez, let me look into it. There's a few farms nearby. (We're joking...not about the farms but about getting sheep urine for our brews...yuck) - John
Using 05 would prob make this like a real cali pale ale or 04 may make it like a more neipa/ pale ale style with slightly more fruitiness. Love playing around with yeast.
I think a lot of people are scared of not adding that 60 min bittering additon, I have had great results with all late additions in American Pale Ales.
Dirigo Brewing Company (Biddeford, ME) did a New England Pale Lager. I've been thinking about playing around with a lager strain in one of these beers.
I think I will still experiment - there are some hoppy-bitter styles that our water isn't well suited. I probably brew some more bad beer until I figure it out. - John
I was just thinking of doing a sessionable NE IPA when I found this in my subscription feed. Excellent! Thanks, guys.
It's like we read your mind - Brew on! - John
Ill be waiting for the video Larry!

Nice - my NEIPA had more of a 1:1 ratio and I liked it. Brew on! - John

Absolutely give Rakau a chance at 15 minutes. Maybe push it to 10 or 5 min if your just after aroma and flavor. Cheers! -Mike
@@BrewDudes awesome. I will give er a shot. Thanks Mike!
You guys simply must try the the Bry-97 West Coast Ale dry yeast for this style. Cheers!
Its on the list. Gotta keep brewing! Cheers! -Mike
100%. great in ipa as well.
I completely agree with the unique hop experience driving the popularity of the modern NEIPA
Absolutely! - John
sorry guys love all your vids very cool
Ok - thanks.
Great job dudes!
Thanks Todd!
I've made a similar beer, but added 1/2 lb to lb of lactose to give it more body at that low alcohol level. Works nicely and not at all syrupy.
Did you detect any lactose sweetness? WIth that low amount, I am guessing no. - John
Try using two different liquid yeast in same batch that u like the flavor profiles from i.e. Clove/banana etc cheers
Great suggestion - thanks!
Curious about a few things? Torrified vs Flaked vs malted wheat? Why torrified? Golden Promise vs Two Row? Same thing? No Oats?

I would like to see that with London III and swap crystal 40 with crystal 10, you will get a nice hazy orange body.
Right on - I like that idea. The next one I brew, I probably will go for straw color appearance.
Jaime Luna this! Or just skip the crystal all together
Great review guys...next time pls comment about the water..cheers
Good tip - thanks!

Sounds like a great beer. One I need to brew asap. Are these recipes public on Beersmith? Cheers, love your work guys.
Thanks - we typically post the recipes in the description of our videos. Check it out. - John
How was the malt and body at 5.5% I've heard it suggested that they are 'watery'...
I felt it had some good body even with the lower ABV- John
Awe u guys are the shiz nit cheers 🥂
You are too kind. Brew on! - John
I think a lot of people are scared of not adding that 60 min bittering additon, I have had great results with all late additions in American Pale Ales.
True, it's becoming the standard not to have a bitter charge at all in many of these hazy IPAs. - John
This is exactly what homebrewing is about.
Absolutely - BREW ON! - John

good video

Hear hear!
Your water profile is very similar to mine. I will never change it.
I think I will still experiment - there are some hoppy-bitter styles that our water isn't well suited. I probably brew some more bad beer until I figure it out. - John
Yes, I have been doing the RO/water salt brews since last Feb. Just getting the hang of it now. I brewed a few bad beers myself.
Got it. It's fun and frustrating. -John
You pronounce AF as one word, not as two letters. Drop the crystal and up the wheat or add oats to make it around 20%.
Great hop combo
Nice - I will school my millennial co-workers of the proper pronunciation. Thanks for the recipe thoughts. - John
