Exactly ;-) At Lille, 143 trains divided by 83 VAL 206 and 60 VAL 208. At Rennes, 30 trains divided by 16 VAL 208 and 14 VAL 208 NG and at Toulouse, 117 trains divided by 29 VAL 206, 14 VAL 208, 56 VAL 208 NG and 18 VAL 208 NG2.
Funny how monorails are demonised as a gimmick, yet this is accepted even though they're basically the same technology (rubber tyres on a concrete guideway) just arranged differently. In the case of a monorail more compact and less intrusive.
Monorail vehicles are really large and complicated and can't switch tracks easily as the train wraps around the track and monorails also have to be elevated for the whole route. That said, VAL is also a gadgetbahn and I think more conventional steel wheeled rail is better, VAL made more sense in the 80s and 90s when acceleration and hill climbing weren't as good as they are now in steel wheeled trains and when light metro using conventional tracks was less available
This is Westinghouse Transit Expressway, a.k.a. "Skybus" and it was tested in Pittsburgh in the 1960s but built only for airport transportation between terminals in the U.S., primarily by the Bombardier Corporation.
+Igor Furlender between the station porte d'arras and porte des postes line 2 towards St Philibert you will see a line transfer tunnel 2 and line 1 against it is here that the transfer line subway line.
+Matthew Robertson You are trusted to tap in and Tap Out. With that type of "open system" A: It allows for faster entry/exit. B: Their are more fare inspectors(I think)
It's not dangerous to walk in escalators down or up i always it's just that some people are more used to it. In Lille those who walk walk on the left side and people who just wait on the right like on the road. Also they have a very secure barrier system now because they had like 13% fraud rate. Now it's impossible for 2 people to go after each other or jump the barrier except if you have many tickets on your card. The barrier detect then someone went thought it. And you can't put your card two times on the same route directly. It will block you.
Memories! I used to live in Lille. I love love love that city. Thank you for this video.
Automated, Rubber-tyred and guided at the same time? Awesome!

Yes phox . The VAL208's sound GREAT !
Someone told me that, at the beginning of the service, VAL standed for "Villeneuve-d'Ascq-Lille" because it was a link between these two places...
Yep. :)
No, it meant "Vehicule Automatique Léger" or Light Automatic Vehicle ;-D
Renato Donadio Now yes, but when it was conceived, it in fact standed for "Villeneuve d'Ascq Lille"

Very nice! Costa Rica has no metro nor tramway. Shame on my country's public transport!!! Indeed this VAL remembers me of Rennes in 2007
Rennes uses the same type of metro than Lille (VAL208)
