As a US Marine, I attended (1977) a Jungle Survival Training course in the Philippines, given by Negrito Indians (indigenous people). It was quite instructive and covered a lot of useful techniques for taking advantage of the resources the Jungle offers. For the Negrito, it's their home.

Filipino soldiers are battle hardened. While most armies in the world only learn about war thru lectures and training, filipino learn war thru actual practice. Even now, phil scout rangers are still fighting in mindanao against islamic insurgents and communist rebels. Those wars never ended thus filipino soldiers are constantly trains in actual warfare. US, australian forces even learn jungle warfare from fthe ilipino army as filipino army are tops in jungle warfare. They can track, hunt down any adversary thru extreme skills. They face death constantly, and that cant be said to armies who have no real battle experience. That said, modern warfare are fought differently as before. Modern warfare involves the use of missles, massive amount of missles to break the will of the opponent. Until such time that enemy forces lands on the shore and engage in man to man warfare, filipino soldiers cannot do anything.
In the final leg of the training of Philippine Scout Rangers, their final test involves actual combat with their domestic enemies before they can graduate and become Rangers. No actual combat, no graduation. 🫡🫡

Filipino American here. I will say that the Filipino marines are tough as nails. They know how to coordinate with US Forces also. Most of them speak fluent English too. So they are a ready force multiplier.
Filipinos have been through a lot of trials and tribulations but, resilience still stay within their heart. They have long patience , kindness in their own ways and pray for peace . But, not backing down from the fight if trouble is inevitable. They fight hard like guerillas and will always fight for freedom. Remember the Battle of Yuldong, in South Korea, ordinary Filipinos were among the 900 soldiers that fought the 40,000 Chinese soldiers .
Not throwing any Shade on my Philippino brothers, but I'd argue Indian forces are far more a trained and engaged on a regular basis. Indian army is the most experienced force in Asia. But I'm sure Philippines is doing a great job with what they have. Although lets be honest, local operations are better than having your soldiers guard posts anyday, but comparing that level of operation with that of an actual full fledged war between two countries are totally different. Localised experience can only pan out so much. But ig that us why they train with Americans.

No disrespect to the Philippines, but the only military in Asia remotely capable of facing China is India. India has a long experience of fighting wars, they've had 4 with Pakistan and 1 with China in the last 70 years. Not to mention, World war 2 where 2.5 million Indians served and were the largest voluntary force in the world.
Philippines defense on the ground with US air & sea support would be very difficult to defeat, probably impossible. But on it's own it can't do anything beyond the beach heads.

As a US Marine, I attended (1977) a Jungle Survival Training course in the Philippines, given by Negrito Indians (indigenous people). It was quite instructive and covered a lot of useful techniques for taking advantage of the resources the Jungle offers. For the Negrito, it's their home.

Even now, phil scout rangers are still fighting in mindanao against islamic insurgents and communist rebels. Those wars never ended thus filipino soldiers are constantly trains in actual warfare. US, australian forces even learn jungle warfare from fthe ilipino army as filipino army are tops in jungle warfare. They can track, hunt down any adversary thru extreme skills. They face death constantly, and that cant be said to armies who have no real battle experience. That said, modern warfare are fought differently as before. Modern warfare involves the use of missles, massive amount of missles to break the will of the opponent. Until such time that enemy forces lands on the shore and engage in man to man warfare, filipino soldiers cannot do anything.

Filipino American here. I will say that the Filipino marines are tough as nails. They know how to coordinate with US Forces also. Most of them speak fluent English too. So they are a ready force multiplier.

But, not backing down from the fight if trouble is inevitable. They fight hard like guerillas and will always fight for freedom. Remember the Battle of Yuldong, in South Korea, ordinary Filipinos were among the 900 soldiers that fought the 40,000 Chinese soldiers .
Not throwing any Shade on my Philippino brothers, but I'd argue Indian forces are far more a trained and engaged on a regular basis. Indian army is the most experienced force in Asia. But I'm sure Philippines is doing a great job with what they have.
Although lets be honest, local operations are better than having your soldiers guard posts anyday, but comparing that level of operation with that of an actual full fledged war between two countries are totally different. Localised experience can only pan out so much. But ig that us why they train with Americans.

India has a long experience of fighting wars, they've had 4 with Pakistan and 1 with China in the last 70 years. Not to mention, World war 2 where 2.5 million Indians served and were the largest voluntary force in the world.
Philippines defense on the ground with US air & sea support would be very difficult to defeat, probably impossible. But on it's own it can't do anything beyond the beach heads.
