I read the story and DANG it was sick even doppel turning into the actual Sonic rather than Salvation that couldn't keep Sonic's traits due to a change in his mind, though I wonder how Pico, or whatever his name is, ended up facing him?
im glad you enjoyed the story! its nice to see a doppel fan! as for why pico fought doppel, i guess you could just go with how breaker bundle did it with pico being assigned to kill "sonic"
