Definitely. I remember back in USUM, me taking time to get version exclusives, hidden ability pokémon, hard to get pokémon with low encounter chancr and whatnot to try out wondertrading and seeing what I'd get - and in 30ish trades, I got about a dozen wingulls, another half a dozen-dozen youngoos/rattata and whatever else you get on the first route, and the only 2 trades that weren't just early route garbage were a Mimikyu (not rare, but hey) and an Oranguru. It is surprisingly easy to complete pokedex without trading that much. Scarlet was my first pokemon game, where I completed the dex (technicaly second, but Legends Arceus can be done without interacting with other people, so I don't really consider it). Firstly, version exclusives. Two ways to obtain them. Terra raid with people from another version. Also, there exist special trading rooms for version exclusive pokemon. Codes for them are the same as the dex number of first pokemon in evolutionary line. For example there is 0370-0305 for Deino's and Dreepes's evolutionary line. Second category is trade evolutions + Palafin. The same situation as version exclusives. Terra raid can help you with then. Also surprise trade can be helpful to. I've got some rare pokemon thanks to them. So in the end I repeat, that it's not so hard to finish dex without friends
I know this is a year old now but being reminded of that horrible shiny luck makes me feel bad when I got a shiny LeChonk at the very beginning of the game XD Took that thing all the way to endgame
I would love to see this as a challenge to see how many trade to actually complete it, or get down to just the version and maybe shrine legendaries left. It would probably take a ridiculous amount of time though.
1:25 Well at least the camera didn't inexplicably cut out this time and we actually saw what's underneath Diglett. A chunk of earth with a dimensional portal inside.
Did you ever get a galarian Meowth from OT Phoenix? I got a Lechonk with OT Mikey a few days ago, but it's a very common name so I didn't consider the possibility until this video came up.
I got Lechonk as my second full odds shiny, just ambling around near Levincia! I love her dearly. Also had fletchling, fletchinder (!) and I bred an azumarill within five eggs which will never happen to me again haha
So I recently decided to try and beat scarlet only using surprise trade and as soon as I do, pm7 makes a video on that. Now Im half way through and Im wondering "I wonder how long it would take me to complete the pokedex this way" and then heres this video😂
My first playthrough starting from launch day was a surprise trade nuzlocke that i further limited to just gen 9 pokemon, re-trading each catch till i got something new. By the end of the first box it took like 45 min of repeat re-trading for each catch, so lessened the limit to any non-repeat at that point. Still ended up in the repeat loop like a box and a half later, but by that point i had caught something in just about every location and about finished the story so nuzlocke was basically over anyway. Following that stricter ruleset, though factoring in the varied catches along the way for trade fodder, i also ended up with about 70-ish percent dex completion after evolution/breeding, it just took longer lol.
Wow, never expected to end up on here. Thanks for the lechonk. Sorry the scorbunny didn't help, or if you ended up with a bunch of my starters. Just trying to help people who can't get them other ways. Great vid!
Suprise trading is a lot of fun. However, I spent days in Shield trying to surprise trade my way to the starters, performed hundreds of trades, and never got a Grookey. This was before I knew about the standard trade codes. On the plus side, I have many boxes full of a variety of pokemon of different languages. I also chucked the hacked shinies and legendaries.
I'm glad people are trading more diverse and dificult to get pokemon. I usually catch a bunch of area zero mons to both train my mons and surprise trade the duplicate version exclusives. Hopefully it makes someone's day
I actually did a wonder trade bingo with a friend today, and to both our surprise neither of us ended up with a Paradox Mon, since they seem to be fairly common based on similar vids I've seen here. I did end up picking up a Website Shiny, though... And my friend and I ended up matching for a trade, which was hilarious given the odds of that happening.
I once caught a box full of Iron Hands, picked out the best one to train, and sent out the rest to people. I hope it helped someone complete their dex. The only paradox I ever got, that I couldn't catch myself was Sandy Shocks. The rest, I all had to ask for, to complete my dex...
Alternate title: "So I caught 400 Lechonks and just started hucking them into subspace to see what came back." This is like that episode of Invader Zim where Zim started chucking toy pigs into Dib's past and causing terrible accidents. You're in Violet too, so who knows how much destruction this many Lechonks may have caused. XD
Man feeling kinda cool that I got my full odds shiny before him It was a mareep- I was trying to find a female eevee for breeding- ampharos’s shiny is so cool
Actually in post game if you go back to area zero you can get a second Koraidon or Miraidon to trade or keep I know because that's what I did in my copy of scarlet and violet if you have a friend with the opposite game you have you can trade them to get them registered in the dex and then trade them back to each other if you want to keep both the 1 you get in your playthrough and the 1 you get going back to area zero in post game
The fact you didn't get 20 froakies is the most shocking thing to me. I got five in a row just trading them back and forth before I got anything that wasn't froakie
Flutter mane is bugged, and you can find shinies of it technically legitimately extremely easily. That one is probably legit. (ghost pokemon despawn during the day, but shinies do not. Flutter mane still spawns during the day, unlike other ghost Pokemon. This means simply standing in that cave with a ghost encounter & shiny sandwich functionally automatically shiny hunts them.)

I love this! I'm gonna start doing that too.
I don’t know if this is true for other languages, but “Traumato” is actually the German name of “Drowzee”
I've been able to fill most of my Violet Pokedex by trades including the few that are Scarlet exclusives. There's still a bit more I need for completion but I'll continue to trade including a bunch of late stage pokemon to help others out.
Funnily enough I was debating on trying to make as much of a living dex through Wonder Trade as possible. Makes sense that it would take a LONG time and a LOT of trades, especially as you complete more of it
For some reason I’ve got several Paradox Pokémon through Surprise Trade, but they’ve all been Brute Bonnet, except for a hacked shiny Iron Bundle whose OT name was a link to a website.
14:14 come on Mikey. You have definitely traumatized Drowzee more then Drowzee has traumatized you. Shame on you 💔
been doing a bit of surprise trading myself to help with my dex, and i do feel like people are a lot more generous with their trades than in previous gens. i know i've been trying to trade out version exclusives from my game, including paradox pokemon, the fire tauros, armarouge, and of course some starters! and i've only received one hacked shiny so far, which i promptly released lol
MandJtv: ooh, a gulpin. GULPIN DEEZ N-
editor:*cuts the clip*
I did a ton of surprise trades recently trying to get the starters, it was easier to get almost all the scarlet version exclusives than to use the link codes.
Mikey:I WILL KILL THE GODS WHO TAUNTED ME!
Also Mikey a milosecond after that:sorry😊
Maybe the reason Peter traded away that shiny Haunter was because he didn’t know it was shiny.
Peter is just on a quest to right the wrongs Mindy committed.
Doubtful. It shows their shinyness on the status screen, not just the sprite.
@@gengarzilla1685 Yeah but if you already don’t think it’s shiny and are just trading it away, you could either not notice or just not think to look in the first place, especially if you’re new to the game and don’t know that’s a thing
17:12 no Mikey, you ain't got 3 more Chanseys, you've got 3 more Lechonks.
Psst Mikey! You can absolutely breed a shiny Charmander; I caught the Charizard and Masuda method it with a Spanish Ditto ☺️
I've also caught a shiny Screaming Tail as well, so... As long as the Screaming tail is caught higher than level 40 something... It's legit, dude!
Sorry I meant Fluttermanr lol
He's well aware that charmander is in the game. He was referring to the fact the they are from a hacking website rather than from someone breeding it
Honest question: how can you tell?
@@animalia5554 the nickname will be that of the website rather than it's standard name or it's a shiny of a Pokemon that currently does not have it's shiny released like keldeo
@@TlocRevelc ahhh ok I getcha :)
2 uploads 1 weekend!
keep it up mikey 🥳
I 100% agree!
Peter might’ve traded you the haunter purposefully trying to get it to evolve. He thought might’ve thought you would trade it back.
He should have been using link trades for that. Must be a mistake.
My first full odds shiny in Violet was a .... lechonk, my first full odds shiny in Scarlet was Garganacl
I think the completionist completed this exact challenge on his channel and it is coming out today
It's funny how he reads Traumato and goes like "yeah sum's up the BS I've had with it." While the "Traum" part actually means dream in German. 🤣
Did you ever get a galarian Meowth from OT Phoenix? I got a Lechonk with OT Mikey a few days ago, but it's a very common name so I didn't consider the possibility until this video came up.
They should do this again for the teal mask Pokedex and the blueberry academy Pokedex
My first full odds shiny in Violet was a LeChonk, which I found approximately 10 minutes into playing in the tutorial area. I was very excited lmao
Mikey is going to absolutely despise this
I got Lechonk as my second full odds shiny, just ambling around near Levincia! I love her dearly. Also had fletchling, fletchinder (!) and I bred an azumarill within five eggs which will never happen to me again haha
Same here, but in Scarlet! My first wild shiny ever in a main series pokemon game (not counting PLA)
@@charadreemurr4839 What because the color of Shiny Lechonk looks like Miltank how could you?!
@@dominicvega1678 I did not know about that more reason for the hatred then thanks
14:20 Seaside Hill, what a throwback, cultured choice Ms. Editor
I see this title and I think oh that's cool then I think again and I'm like hail no I can't do this. Props to you Mikey
Wow, never expected to end up on here. Thanks for the lechonk. Sorry the scorbunny didn't help, or if you ended up with a bunch of my starters. Just trying to help people who can't get them other ways.
Great vid!
I'm glad to see you get a full odds shiny, since I also got one, a Venonat that I found after getting demolished by the Grass gym leader.
Bidoof dod has blessed you. Hail yeah.
Alternate title: "So I caught 400 Lechonks and just started hucking them into subspace to see what came back."
This is like that episode of Invader Zim where Zim started chucking toy pigs into Dib's past and causing terrible accidents. You're in Violet too, so who knows how much destruction this many Lechonks may have caused. XD
Man feeling kinda cool that I got my full odds shiny before him
It was a mareep- I was trying to find a female eevee for breeding- ampharos’s shiny is so cool
dude.. i, too, have been grinding up pokemon levels while watching dimension 20 recently! the unsleeping city is very good
Mikey saying he got into Dimension 20 made me ridiculously happy, not gonna lie 😂
I have a video Idea for my leader. How many surprise trades does it take to get every flying type in Pokémon scarlet and violet.
This guy's not only a poketuber but a pokescientist, a realistic one
As a fellow D20 watcher and DM the statement about just watching that while doing menial tasks was the realest thing I’ve heard today
Getting a shiny haunter that evolves into gengar is ultimate luck. I'd actually cry.
My thesis to Diglett's legs is the ring of rocks is all there is.
You technically can't complete the dex because you can't trade Koraidon or Miraidon
I got five in a row just trading them back and forth before I got anything that wasn't froakie
surprise trading is a great feature
Also agreed
Technically speaking even if they're hacked it's not like you can't use them throughout your playthrough 🤷🏻♀️
Dimension 20 while surprise trading has literally been my entire vibe these past few weeks
You can see mikey slowly going insane in this video and I love it
Love how mikey was first like: how many wonder trades would it take to complete the pokedex?, to: I am having an existential crisis.
13:54 ahh yes drugs
nothin like a good mandjtv video to chill and watch
This makes me want to do a wonderlocke
Michael: I will catch more than 400 lechonk!
The shines that did not spawn (or not included in the video): am I a joke to you.
