I had a few pits pop up in my compost pile so I replanted them in a sunny spot in the backyard and let them do ther thing I’ve never pruned them ever. Now I have a few of the biggest and bushiest most beautiful peach trees I’ve seen and great shade trees to sit under in the summer and yep I get nice peaches every year only problem I’ve had is trying to keep the deer from eating my trees the spot I planted them in used to be a cow pasture I’m guessing ther doing so well from all the compost in the ground

I have never pruned the 2 trees in 6 years. Thanks for all the info. I need to find how to keep the bugs off the fruit organically. I had many peaches last year. Several bags of peaches on 2 trees that are 6 years old with not one without bugs. They are too high, too. How high do you let your peach trees grow?

I have Loring peach trees and selected scaffolds but they keep shooting straight up without providing many side branches to work with. It's like a u shape. The previous year pruning has a good angle outward but two inches later is a U and straight back up it goes! Sometimes I have a pencil shaped branch going in a better direction but its so small in comparison to the scaffold I'm afraid to prune off the scaffold. (Also, the scaffold grows feet and feet in a completely vertical direction after the U-shaped bend so I'd be taking off the majority of length of the limb). Any suggestions? The two options I was thinking of were to prune higher up to an outward facing bud and summer prune any competitors to the desired branch (this would create a zigzagging 45 degree-ish angle outward). Or, prune at the U itself to an outward facing bud, lopping off the vast majority of last year's growth and summer prune to anything going vertical until I can select the outward branch (assuming that the branch will send out laterals as I prune the tip over and over).
My peach tree is 6 years old and this is only the second time that It produced fruit. Last year it produced peaches which were larger than an apricot and this year It produced many many peaches that were about the size of an apricot. It also got extremely tall this year we are only in mid-october and yesterday I went outside and started to trim some of the small, hanging branches. I stumbled upon your video which I really did not know how to take care of a peach tree so I guess I will wait till the spring time to finish trimming it? Also will this produce larger peaches when trimmed properly? This year I gave it a lot of Miracle Grow in early spring and early summer. Thank you for this video I will follow your instructions my tree looks nothing like a bowl shape.
If it produces a lot of fruit On a branch then take off about 30 percent of the fruits from each branch, you want a manageable amount on each branch. Then that energy will go to the remaining fruit and make it large and juicy.

@@patricknoveski6409 I ended up ordering a replacement and now I'm not sure I did the right thing since it looked like my double trunk tree was going to bloom this third year. I didn't want to have problems five years from now so I replaced it and now it's in a pot but it's too big for it so either I will have to toss it or replant it to see how well it does.
This is almost ridiculous - you first take out a center branch to "open up " and let sun in and then you want to fill that huge same spot with (now mangled) branches ... You're confusing and not sure your advice is sound !

Would this concept of cutting the newly planted tree 18” down apply to pecan trees as well ?

Could you root those big limbs pruned in the beginning, to crest more peach trees?

My stepfather has always told me that fruit trees should NOT be pruned until fall. He grew up on a farm that had many different types of fruit trees
