The Philippines' iconic jeepneys, originally military vehicles from World War II, have evolved into a vital mode of public transportation, deeply ingrained in Filipino culture. This video explores the transformation of these vehicles and their significance in Philippine society.
From their humble beginnings as surplus military jeeps left behind by the United States, jeepneys have been refurbished and decorated, serving as a symbol of Filipino ingenuity and resilience. Sarao Motors, a renowned manufacturer, has been producing jeepneys since 1953, blending craftsmanship with artistry to create unique vehicles.
Despite their cultural significance, traditional diesel-powered jeepneys face challenges due to pollution concerns, leading to government efforts to transition to electric jeepneys. However, this transition has faced resistance from drivers and operators, highlighting the complexities of balancing tradition, modernization, and environmental sustainability. The future of jeepneys hangs in the balance as stakeholders navigate these challenges while preserving the essence of this beloved Filipino icon.

Well it's March 2024, the old jeeps are still running, not very often you'll see a true electric one, there is however a different kind, still with combustion motor, and they are increasing in numbers.

To the people who hasn’t ridden one. Best seats is in the front by the driver or standing hanging on for your life at the entrance/door 😂

Why not modernize the Jeepkney to work with ethanol or greener fuels
