Despite polling data and what I consider to be overly optimistic speculation by conservative media outlets, this will be a close race and Trump should want to be seen by casual voters and independents in a face to face debate with Joe Biden. Personally, I think Joe’s handlers are insane for going ahead with this. It reeks of desperation. My guess is that they feel that if they can coach Joe well enough, shoot him up with enough of whatever they have been giving him lately and rely on moderators to do what they have done in every debate for the last two decades that, #1, they can spin/lie about the outcome of the debate and #2 they can count on Trump to be a bully. It’s evident that they really don’t have any interest in the truth about the state of the country, but again, they’re desperate. The only way this benefits Biden is if Trump’s behavior makes people more sympathetic. Joe can’t campaign on the economy or immigration or energy ………or literally any of his policies. What he can do is say, “I’m not Donald Trump,” and it seems apparent that there are some people around him who think that is going to be a winning argument.
