- Nothing makes a section feel more important than having a choir in it, right? Unfortunately recording a choir can be extremely expensive, time consuming, and labor intensive. Many projects don't have the budget or timeframe to record a professional choir section, so I wanted to show you a quick hack! In this video, I will show you how to create a choir sound with only one vocalist. We will discuss recording techniques and mix tricks to make one vocalist appear to be a whole choir arrangement.
In this video we mention that we will be doing a giveaway for a JZ Microphones BH-2 next week! Join our group and mailing list to get more details soon!

Make Pop Music is the #1 resource for independent pop producers, writers, and artists. Thank you for being a subscriber!
If you want to take this trick to the next level: set two mics 6 to 8 feet apart, make marks on the floor where each "person" would stand and stand in a different location during each take. This will give even more of the illusion of a full chior. You can accomplish this even in a small room. Works wonders!
I will try
Thumbnail is great 🤣👌
this was seriously an eye opener lol. i used to tight time and also tune them hard making it sounding like just another layer of vocal.Thank you so much it helped!
@Sherrod Thy God Internet
@@JahJahBruh world wide web
Not only a great tutorial, but this song is also fireeeee 🔥🔥🔥
bruh wat im sayin
Super helpful as a solo artist. Especially right now during Covid where getting a choir together is virtually impossible! Thx!
This trick really gonna help massively over various areas in vocal procession...
And damn that voice!!!🔥
Damn, thank you for this video. I was just thinking about how to do this as a single artist last night for a song I’m trying to finish up right now. Your videos are straight to the cut and so informational! Thankful to have your channel to learn from
I CANT WITH THE INTRO PREVIEW✨✨🤭☠️☠️😭😌😌💞☠️☠️
We wanna hear the country accent take soloed!
u can't handle it fam
I was thinking the same thing haha
I'm starting getting more involved with music production, really love your videos! You are a big inspiration!
I wanted a part in one of my songs to sound like a 'bar crowd' was sing my lyrics so I did a bunch of vocal comps, slightly adjusted the delay, pitch and formant in each one and it sound "pretty good". The real wizardry came when I download a 'sound effect' of a small crowd counting down for New Years. Every vowel you'll need, AEIOU, is in the countdown. The O is a little challenging but when I cropped, stretched and meticulously layered these sounds with all my different comp recordings it was *pure magic* !
Finally chanced on the tutorial I was after, damn such gems!!!
One thing i like doing is applying Quilcom Vocoral (which is free and i'm not sure it was around by the time this video was made) on all or half of the recordings, and tune the wet mix to liking. Vocoral isn't quite realistic by itself but can add density to the section.
Jon Bellion vocal production..... PLLLEEEEAAAAAASSSSSEEEEE
This was pretty much what I thought already but great helpful video to have it confirmed that the only way to really get a huge bv sound on your own is to record a shedload of different takes.. cool idea to play with the vocal formants though I'm definitely going to try that! I've currently been stuck in Thailand on a remote island since the beginning of the pandemic recording with an old laptop so absolutely no shot at getting any backing singers!
holy macaroni, you're a literal live safer thank you so much!!! i appreciate your work a lot man
You always amaze us with your content Austin...thanks a lot
Such a good tutorial and concept to cover! Thank you!
This was great! I actually did a demo just today that used some of these techniques. I'd love to see something about doing vocal processing similar to artists like MUNA, The Japanese House, and such!
This video brings me badk, I remember seeing this when i really started to take my producing more seriously and to look back at the growth and how far things have come is amazing, thanks for being a part of that journey austin!
Watched a few of your videos and im always leaving with more knowledge! Subscribed!
Broo thank you!! I remember it was like 2 or 3 months ago that I emailed and asked how to do this! Thank you so much
Wow this is exactly what i have been looking for! I have a MacBook pro and GarageBand and I want to make my own choral arrangements, and now I can!
Awesome! Would love to see how to mix a singer and rapper pop song!
dope tutorial. the last reverb on the choir bus is A LOT. but if it works for your mix, sure.
I appreciate this tutorial. Thank you
Thanks man, I'm going to try this.
Awesome video Austin! I just discovered your channel but I have learned so much already. Quick question. What about tracking the choir vocals from different positions in the room? Sam Smith once said the choir vocals for Stay With Me were all done by him from different positions in the room.
Yep! I think I mentioned tracking at different distances and angles to give it some extra depth :D
It sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing your gift and talent with us all.
I found your channel less than a week ago, watched a dozen or so of your videos so far and I feel like I've learned more from just them that all the other music production videos I've seen up to now. Your videos are great. Keep it up!
Super inspiring and helpful!
Thanks making for pop music
What about metal?
so dope. thanks!
Im glad that i found this channel. A lot of useful content that i lookin for 👌 🔥
Thank you for this. Amazing tutorial.
First of all, great video and tips, thanks so much! Secondly, just looked up your song and added it to my library, I absolutely love it!! Third, who could have possibly disliked this video??
Super helpful!! Thanks for helping me on my journey in music production
Hey! I love this video, and I love your series on creating types of singers songs! You’ve helped me so much with my production! I’m not sure if you take requests but I’d love to see a “how to make a 2010 Kelly clarkson” type of song like her song “my life would suck without you”, I’d love to produce a throwback fun breakup song like hers for the nostalgia! I’d also love to see a “how to make a my chemical romance” song like “NA NA NA NA” with a lot of guitar since I struggle to get a good guitar synth! Thank you :)
Keep on keeping on! Very informative. Thank you.
i can see how an algorithm would be able to reproduce the diversity of pitches with a single click. let me know when an online voice processor exists where a single voice recording can be uploaded and processed by a web service to reproduce different voices and mix them into a choir. I d love to play with that
This is awesome
Wow, your really talented actually. I was going to write adjust forments for more girly voice or such, but you pretty much went over it in the video. Quality videos on your channel! I wished kids could find your channel instead of others that are far less talented and give out disinformation. You did miss naming de-essing the choirs tho. You can almost always de-ess extremely on choirs since there already are S T P etc in the main vocals, but its all a taste thing in the end. Keep it up young man!
Great topic man! Thank you for the video!
Love you from India bro ❤❤❤👑💖
Now I want to hear the finished project!
It’s called Even Though It Kills Me by Austin Hull 😁 it’s out.
did you go to music school? or how did you learn everything you know?
bravo!!!
Thanks for the ideas!!!
Ouuullala. Great one Thanks a lot sir
Very great stuff dude!
Wow. Thanks.
Great!
Loved the tutorial. Any tips on EQ and reverb suggestions to make this sound more gospel-ish? I’m going for a J-Cole born sinner ish type of vibe
It doesn't sound like a choir. It sounds what you suggest. One voice with a lot of EQ and Reverb.
Dude you're amazing!!
dude lovely video, songs totally fire
Thanks! very useful tips! :-)
U r the best music producer+singer! Keep going, I really inspired by u🎶

What are the volume levels for all the tracks ?????????
Hey, would love to see a The Weeknd styled beat in the style of his latest After Hours Album, especially in the style of his song "Faith"
"Sing a few off key" don't worry, most of mine will be :)
GOOD BRO

DO YOU HAVE A VIDEO ABOUT RECORD VOCAL PROCESS AND ANY LIVE RECORD INSTRUMENT?
We do! We have made a video about my vocal recording process and we have a whole course on vocal engineering!
Awesome! 🎶✨✌🏻😉
Video starts at 1:57
THANK YOU
I tried this with Audacity, but i can't "clean" it. Maybe the reverb or something.
Love your videos 😍
Please do a logic one
Amazing
I fck with the song
How do you know how many tracks to do?
Can you do a equipment review?
😍😍😍
Bro, what is the song? It sounds epic
Thank U
This is so vertically tall that when this is in a project file with actual instrument tracks and other stuff, it would be a nightmare ;u;
Could you please put up a tutorial on Liam Ferrari - run to you, I really wanna know the breakdown for the drop
정말 멋진 음악입니다
why after we export the audio and move it into a phone, the quality of the sound is different?
Could be a lot of factors.
1: What are you playing the audio back on outside of your DAW? Most playback programs sound like garbage.
2: Is there any mastering or additional software being applied after whatever track is being exported (i.e. you have an additional master bus with Plugins, but the master prints from a different bus without that)
3: What are you monitoring on? It could be an issue with your speakers or your room when you're mixing.
4: Make sure you're downloading the full res file (44.1khz, 24bit, downloaded onto the device)
hey, your channel so good man. question, what version are you using of Cubase? is it pro version? thanks
hey any upcoming promo codes for the midi pack? wanna pick it up but covid hurt me haha
What's the name of the song?

Which editing software is this ?
do you record the vocals in cubase only or in someother like protools and later shifted the tracks to the cubase ???
