Nature, oh, boy, is in the nature of a good reel to reel machine to play a master tape with supreme quality unmached by any other medium out there. Thank you !
Uau!!! Thanks a lot for this episode! I’m in the middle of the process of buying a Revox B77 HS. However, as we all know, I’m thinking ahead and will try later to have a Studer A810, keeping the B77! Congrats!
I love the B77's... I remember salivating over them in the early eighties, when they retailed for $2,500 - crazy price for me back then. I was later able to buy one with an issue for just $700 and I was so happy, especially since the repair turned out to be very simple. I have two 2-tr High-Speed models, but they only have the preliminary calibration, although they are working fine. There's never enough time... So best of luck with your purchase, it is a lovely machine.
I am sure I'm not the only one here who listens to your videos through their hifi, I would love to hear the excellent miked room sound slowly fade over to a direct link some time
This is such a smart purchase! The machine has great reputation, it is always in demand. The support structure for it is wide with many technicians and good parts supply.
The problem with me watching all your videos is that I want to add all of these same machines to my own collection! LOL! It's crazy how I can go from "If I could just have a (single) Studer that would be awesome" to "Well, now I need all the others, too!" (I acquired my first Studer, a B67 MkI with meter bridge, a couple of months ago. But I've already begun lusting for an A80. And/or anything in the A8xx-series...) 😁🤩❤ Also, great musical choice! I think I need a copy of that! 👍
I agree on both counts. Fortunately for us, those machines are still around. Gone are the times when nice Ampexes and Studers went to salvage yards, and if they are not abused they are going to be with us for long time. It will continue to be a niche, but still be there. The prices of good recordings are, unfortunately, very high, so for most of us it takes years to build even a modest collection, but you have to start someplace. :)
Hello, great to learn that you now like Studers😉!! I was wondering if the transformerless repro boards were original studer or some aftermarket or custom cards. Very nice deck BTW, hope computerized logic circuitry will not fail 😫. J from Paris…
@@Foxbat9000 I look forward to that list. I never heard of IPI before so a nice find for me. If I can come up with a list of several direct master copies then it might make it worthwhile for Jonathan to quote me for shipping to Ireland. 🤞

I honestly don't know, as I have no experience with B67, so I can only make some guesses. Its playback circuit is part discrete, part opamps, and there are no MDAC's in it, so I think it has the potential of sounding better, but whether it also depends on things such as heads and the choice of particular components. Perhaps someone with direct experience with both models will chime in.
I don't think that is important... it was purchased in a particular market at a particular time, so it would hardly be considered a price guide. As I mentioned, the price was reasonable for the time and place of purchase... perhaps even a slight bargain because of its condition.
Things can always be made better, but the beauty of such machines is in their completeness, which is important to many of us. So I don't agree it is a must... a nice to have option, yes, a nice next step in quality. The Suder A810's sound quality in its stock form will more than meed the real world requirements of the great majority of systems and customers.
very nice set up! 😍
Great story, lovely machine, sounds wonderful, enjoy, I have Revox b77 , but would love to get a 810 one day.

Well, I’m very much familiar with the salivating process. Happened exactly the same to me, and also, now I can buy one! Thank you very much!

Good suggestion, not for some immediate future, but I will think about it. I am sure just properly miking the room would be a serious undertaking.
amazing video as always. thank you so much. i just found one of those and bought it after a lot of years of dreaming about R2R in my system.

You have to take my word for it - it sounds "even more better" in the real room with the real speakers! :)
You have a great wife!😁👍

The cards are all original Studer ones. I have never seen any aftermarket ones.
Any other IPI titles you can recommend? There are many!
Of course! I will make a short list of maybe 5-6 titles tomorrow.

Witch record? Name please
You can see it at 12:20 mark, an IPI album, very, very good one.
Making up to studer fans! 😊
Well, like in that Jewish joke about a grandmother and an enema: “Vell, It vouldn’t hurt!!!”
How much did you pay for it?

Better preamps than Studers is a mist
