I legitimately think songs like this are made for people that bottle everything up and need a song to let out a couple months worth of depression. When he said “It’s eating me alive”, I literally couldn’t hold it in anymore.
Souvenirs will forever haunt me. My childhood friend who killed himself started jamming it shortly before then, I can’t listen to the song without getting goosebumps. He was so pumped when I pulled the demo up on RUclips and we figured it out pretty quick. I wish he could have heard the later stuff, it just kept getting better. RIP Jimbo I miss you everyday brother.
Matteo is a genius and I miss him. (Props to the new gall, she's killing it) but this era of novelists was something truly special. The entire band, but Matteo and Florestan really brought out an emotion together that I don't think I've ever felt before, a drug I still cant replace.
LYRICS I'm trying to survive these strange days, This life can be such an adventure. The world stands before my eyes wilder than it has ever been. I forgot these old memories of youth that were caught right under the surface, Forgot these souvenirs of you that were calling back the pain, I never felt happy somehow, But I'm trying, I'm trying the best I can. I really wanna feel happy sometimes, Really wanna know where the lights are, But it only feels so wrong. It's eating me alive. I never know how to shorten the distance Between my heart and my head, 'Cause through my eyes, the days are monochrome. I wanna feel the light of a new day, But I'm so scared of it all... I'm scared this utter joy ain't lasting forever. It's eating me alive. I never felt happy somehow, But I'm trying, I'm trying the best I can. I really wanna feel happy sometimes, Really wanna know where the lights are, But it only feels so wrong. It's eating me alive. I'm trying to survive my feelings. The joy is the ghost of a wanderer, Lost somewhere outside of here Counting every hour. Report a problem
I first listened to this when I was 19. I was feeling the first feelings of freedom nd I was so happy in life. I knew all the lyrics but never really knew the meaning. Now at almost 25 years old I'm here again and I decided to read the lyrics and I burst out crying. I've been going through on and off depression since 2020 and its so strange how you hear a song in differently and finally understand it when your life changes...
Something about this song just makes me feel so alive. Like I’m able to open my hypothetical wings and fly high like we’re all meant to. The power of the mind is amazing. The power of music bridges that gap for some that can’t connect to the mind. For that, thank you Novelists, for creating such a beautiful peace of art that I will listen to for years to come. Much love.
Winston Wolfe I'm not sure if they are purely metalcore, they're doing many experiments and they seem more crossover but i love it! This song has jazzy and some post-grunge rock influences

how is it that Novelists releases such beautiful music, the entirety of Souvenirs is just gorgeous and then they release Noir, and they continue releasing music that is just able to conjure up emotions, this and 5:12 AM are some of the most emotional songs I have ever heard and they just seem to evoke a feeling that goes beyond enjoyment, listening to this song is similar to that moment right before you shed that single tear, but in a good way (felt the need to clarify that) TL;DR this song is just fucking beautiful and these guys deserve all the credit they get and everyone should listen to this
In truth we're always fighting something. Songs like these help us materialize it and help us with it. We all wanna feel the light of a new day, but yesterday always pulls us backwards. Moving forward is sometimes the hardest way to move. Into the unknown.
This song has at times been a legit therapy session for me while alone in my car at night. Helped me process emotions I was going through and I will never forget that. A good cry when it's needed is so important to feel.
1:45 is something that keeps bringing me back, something about it just stays in the back of my mind. I come to listen when I’m thinking of better days..
these musicians never stop amazing me with each album. such beautiful metal. voices becoming more and more incredible and suited for the music. KEEP IT UP !!!. SOME GOOD MUSIC !!!!
I can't seem to tell if it's just me relating to this song extremely well or if it is actually about what I and so many other people are going through, depersonalization. It feels exactly as described in the lyrics.. It's actually kind of scary how real they seem compared to everything else.
I was just saying to my self "why don't rocks songs have some sax bars in it?" because i was listening to a song from intervals and another djent band with sax. and bam this one had a sax bar in it. respect.
i swear to all things worshipped, this song went on a loop for weeks and weeks... Matt i used to be a vocalist back in the days, this song just gave me the urge to sing again...
All 3 of these albums are amazing. I showed my friend the demo shortly before he died and we were jamming delusions and souvenirs. The original recording of souvenirs haunts me when I listen to it. The first album I was blasting driving down I95 on my first big move. This album came out right b4 I enlisted and shipped out to bct. Then c’est la vie came out right before I moved across the country. Amazing albums that I still can’t get enough of to this day.
damn we almost got the same ass life. i was blasting souvenirs going up and down 95 for work, then I joined the marines and noir came out while i was in boot camp and i was actually kinda disappointed and kinda fell out of love with the band. oh, how wrong i was.
Really enjoying this album so far. Even thought some of it has more "hard rock/alternative metal/post-grunge" rather than a progressive metal feel. Especially the chorus of this song, so catchly. Seriously, when i listen to Mattéo's vocals i think of Theory of a Deadman, Three Days Grace, Staind, Seether, Five Finger Death Punch, Default, Revis, Crossfade, etc. Which is good to me because i always loved mainstream radio butt rock. PS: that saxophone and guitar solo make the song even more perfect.
My god. 😍😍😍😍😍 My favorite fucking band... quite literally ever. They have a way of making me so damn happy and sometimes legit bring a tear. So happy i found them because of a call of duty video a few years ago. Fan for life

The perfect song for a Lonely night and lonely man!! Such a beautiful song!!
I see how sax is slowly getting to metal. And I am fucking glad.
WhereTheWavesAreBorn it's been in there for awhile, should check out ever forthright
WhereTheWavesAreBorn after Ever Forthright and The Faceless everybody has it now

A year and 3 days later and I still listen everyday.
FlawlessRhythm right there with ya bud. This album as a whole. Several songs daily
such an amazing album, their new one is good too!
2022, I'm still jamming to this album
This song is soft and gentle and yet it hits hard every single time...
Perfect description m8
This band deserves the name they've chosen. Well done, the growth from the previous album is fantastic.
And the previous album was really good imo.
The chorus of this song is next level...hits home every time
Literally one of the most gorgeous songs I've ever heard.
I never know how to shorten the distance between my heart and my head.
😂
Between the Vocals and the Guitar something just hits you right in that place!
It's called bass bro
Genius decision to have sax in this one! Very soulful
i will forever and ever come back here to remind myself of the real novelists
Sax solo!! Ohh my god, I love this band. Best metalcore band out there I'd say!
Winston Wolfe I'm not sure if they are purely metalcore, they're doing many experiments and they seem more crossover but i love it!
This song has jazzy and some post-grunge rock influences
Clearly, but Jazzy-post-grunge-core doesn't really work does it? haha
Winston Wolfe not sure which song but further in the album they have a purely blues section
Awesome, still haven't got round to listening to the whole album yet but I'm looking forward to that!
Winston Wolfe yeah. It's my favourite album released this year along with "All Smiles" by Sworn In
this is absolutely incredible. the harmonies are on point!!! love the use of the sax with the guitar, excellent work fellas🤘
im still here guys... and im still in love like its day one. old novelists for life
Indeed
Beautifully haunting. One of my favorite songs on this album, and extremely relatable lyrics as well.

I listened to this album front to back while driving through southern France and it was magical
Omg what a beautiful song. This band has a very unique taste for melody, awesome.
