In regards to Nora's grave, let me tell you a little family story of mine. Back in the late 1880s, a family ancestor of mine, Emily, had gotten married, moved in with the husband, had a baby, but then died with her second baby. Emily's husband had her buried in a local graveyard with no stone because he couldn't afford one. Then he moved to another state, taking their one child.
Nora may not have a gravestone simply because her mother couldn't afford one, which makes sense since she was a single mother with four children in the 1890s.
To finish my family's tale, because I find it kind of hilarious myself, my GG-grandpa and some other family members didn't like that Emily had been buried in a graveyard that wasn't with the rest of the family. So one night, they snuck out of town, into the other graveyard, dug her up, carted her back to her hometown and re-buried her between her parents' graves. This was just a family legend... until 2019. My grandpa, aged 89 at the time, convinced the owners of that graveyard to inspect the area between her parents' graves. And yup, there was a body of a woman buried there, squeezed between her parents. My grandpa paid to provide Emily with a tombstone, and he contacted the outside-of-town graveyard to tell them that her plot of ground was empty. They inspected it, and found that yup, it was.
So crazy, weird things could happen with graves back in the day!

      Lol! That is crazy!
My uncle passed away in June 2020 and we had him buried with his father (my grandpa). I guess my dad thought there was going to be... and maybe we didn't have enough money... but there isn't anything that indicates that my uncle is buried there, too. He has a really nice urn with his name that you'd see if you dug him up...but there isn't a marker above ground and his name isn't written on the grave. I actually want to figure out how much it would cost to do that because it upsets me that his name isn't there.
But the point was that she could just have been reburied with a family member or something too. Cause apparently that still happens to this day.

@emz koe Usually (in pre Pandemic times) a family member has to tell funeral director or memorial Mason (gravestone maker) to make a headstone, said fm or another has to be at the cemetery to witness the placing of the new grave marker. Sadly due to the Pandemic the above activities described have not really been able to happen in the past year, at least in the UK not sure where you are

I've done a lot of genealogical research and it's true that once you get into the 1800s grave markers get harder to find. Quite often people couldn't afford stone ones. Any wooden markers break down. SOMEtimes if you have an idea of where they were buried... you can ask the church to check records. Sometimes obituaries will mention where they were buried... but because illiteracy was common some didn't bother with obituaries. Then it might only be mentioned in an article if the death was remarkable in some way.

    Such a crazy story!!
My dad does small painting/construction jobs. And a few years ago, he’s in his 50s, he got a random call about a job. No big deal, happens all the time. So he shoes up. And it’s like this horrible run down house, out in the country. Like no one had lived there in years! He walked around for a few minutes and got an eerie feeling, so he left as quick as he could. He never heard from those people again. We still wonder about that call, and what someone had planned. It’s so scary.

A case coming up on vintage: In a couple weeks it will be 20 years since a horrific tragedy. It’s a pretty famous case. Robert Fischer is on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted list (among other things). I went to elementary school with his children that he brutally murdered, Brittney and Bobby Fischer. Killed along with their sweet mother, Mary. I was friends with Brittney and having you do a video on it would mean so much to me and I’m sure their family! It’s another one of those solved/unsolved cases. We know who did it, but he’s still on the run. I hope you look it up and possibly consider it. I love your videos. You always do an amazing job! You can tell that you do a lot of research, put a lot of effort into making them, and truly have so much empathy for the victims and their families! I think the friend just wanted attention because if the job interview was a ruse for their affair, why did he seem so mad when she didn't show to the restaurant? Either he would have never gone to the restaurant and they would meet up somewhere else or she would have for sure joined him for a nice dinner. I think he lured her in with the fake job and killed her. I am confused at how he got a hold of her and where she was when she didn't show up to the restaurant though

And I think that both the friend and the roommate were lying: the roommate had probably read about the tophat. And figured out that clotbes of a murderer must be bloodstained, which of course is not true in this case. She invented both and said she burnt the stuff bc she couldn't produce it.

    • @xxkate152xx

I thought maybe they were seeing each other for a while.(obviously not okay) maybe he pushed her to leave the house with him and go on a date. She had her reputation to stand for and her religion, family so she was hesitant. He/she made up the ruse that he needed help and gave her two options to meet out. She never showed up to either, but went instead to the apartment. He got extremely pissed about it and killed her because of it. 🤷‍♀️it would match up to the friend saying she called him a lot/had money for things. But again it's just a thought.

@@xxkate152xx She must have previously known about the Sutter St. location or Bennett ran into her on the street outside. Given the time of death due to the contents of her stomach, it doesn't seem likely that an "interview" took place. Also, given that it was later at night, would it have been likely that she would have been interviewed and then gone back to the home of a man she had just met, even if he did ask her to start right away? I wonder if Bennett was at the restaurant at all and if the restaurant guy was just covering for him and deflecting the crime away from the restaurant (according to him, Nora never showed up there and Bennett left ie. nothing to see here, folks - something else must have happened to her). Remember, the restaurant guy was the only one who didn't think the photo matched up to the person he knew as Bennett. I think Bennett and Nora were dating and they devised a plan so that they could spend the night together or start to spend nights together. I think the restaurant guy knew more than he was letting on and they should have investigated him much more closely.

I'm binge watching your videos, and my husband just informed me that IF ANY single women, who work nights, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! Traffickers are now using zip ties to point out potential victims. They'll place these zip ties on the backdoor of your cars, and that indicates that you're vulnerable, and will be easy to kidnap. So, IF you see these zip ties on your car door handles, remove them IMMEDIATELY!!! Carry something that'll give you time to get the hell out of the situation. So, like I say, as a former Army soldier, be aware of your surroundings, think of EVERY possibility of your vulnerability, be vigilant about your surroundings, take self-defense classes, and see if you're able to carry a concealed weapon in your state.
Please, please stay safe, and take care of yourselves. God bless all of you, and your loved ones.

She could have called from the restaurant, but the employees said he paced and then left the restaurant. You don’t need electricity to run a landline phone, but it would be odd to have a phone installed and connected in a house where he didn’t bother turning anything else on, and I’m assuming no phone was found. This case is so bizarre and interesting. God bless poor Nora and her family.

I dunno why but these old crimes are more fascinating than any current ones. It's like , it was so simple for people to disappear back then for hundreds of years compare to today. I mean sure people disappear (on their own or forced) but with dna, ancestry labs, cameras and social medias, it's hard to hide out and not get someone suspicious. Back then you just moved a couple of states away, change your name and go about your life as if theres nothing to hide. I also like to google earth these old places to see what they are now. Nora's home is a strip/mini mall and her death place is either an empty lot or the home is still there just renumbered. Theres a 2209 and next to it is a 2213 where as across from it is a green wall with covered fence (construction?)

I doubt very much that Nora was seeing him. He was visually angry she didn't make the first appointment time. Probably had Nora call home with fake address because she would be reluctant to go somewhere with him. Possibly to meet the "child" she would be taking care of. Seems she had a gut feeling that something wasn't right but ignored it because she wanted the job. It's sad a family member or someone trustworthy didn't go with her. 😥

She was though. Nora’s best friend Madge said that Nora told her about Bennett. She would call him from a store away from home. She also went to a theater with Bennett under the pretense that she was going with said Madge. So this was not a stranger he knew her and likewise. We like to believe that children are these innocent little beings but it just always the case.

I knew exactly what I was gonna buy(I had looked around and picked it out a couple weeks before) and it takes a few hours for them to get a bike ready if it's new. Well I had yard work that needed doing so I had been doing yard work and was just gonna run up when they opened, buy the bike, then go home and finish the yard work while they got it ready. So long story short I was wearing old cloths and I was sweaty and dirty when I walked in. I swear every salesman there ignored me for a good 30 min. They went after every well dressed sod who came in the door first and failed to sell anything before one of them asked if I needed anything. You should have seen his face when I pointed at the bike said I want to buy that then pulled out the money and said cash when he asked asked how I wanted to finance it. Usually when a person is strangled the hyoid bone is broken. As for the stomach, I imagine that it is possible to see certain conditions in the lining even months after. Like discoloration, patterns in the tissue...

Umm, did you seriously say it was odd that there was no fridge in the kitchen, in 1902... Phones weren't all that common in 1902. Electricity wasn't common in 1902. I grew up in a house in Pennsylvania that was built in 1900. It was one of the first in town to have electricity, running water and a bathroom. Electricity only ran a few hours a day then, so the house also had gas lights. Heat was a coal fired octopus furnace (look it up). It was built with a coal stove in an alcove. Gas stoves were still a few years in the future in 1900. A lot of the things you think of as being standard in a house were a product of the Roaring Twenties, which was part of the reason why they were roaring: the stock market soared on manufacturing of new fangled ice boxes, gas stoves, gas powered wringer washers, etc.

Presently her grave would not be in San Francisco because all graves/grave yards in SF were moved to Colma. You can "google" it for further information but here's some information from my search re: when this move was made: "Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, established by Hamden Holmes Noble in 1892, is a rural cemetery located in Colma, California." When were the SF grave/graveyards moved? "From about 1920 to 1941, the big four cemeteries moved roughly 150,000 bodies. Graves and markers of the deceased whose families paid to have them moved (generally $10) were replanted 15 miles south, sometimes after a solemn procession." So, 1902, she could have been buried in the Cypress Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Colma because it was established in 1892. But if she was buried in a SF cemetery with a similar name, her body was one of the ones that was moved from SF to Colma. If she was a body without a marker &/or with a family who couldn't afford or wasn't able for whatever reason to mark/pay for her grave, its location or her new location (plus given the 1906 earthquake, etc.) of her grave is probably lost forever. 🥺🥀 The only other thought I had was of the "date" or "boyfriend" serial killers/rapists. These are rapists who break into strangers' homes rape, then proceed to have gifts, flowers, etc delivered to the victim. Sometimes they call or write to their victim their own version of "love letters" like they are in a relationship with the person. It's on the same line as "stalkers." There have also been rapists/killers who actually "romance" their victim for awhile promising marriage etc. before killing and moving on. Some of these "boyfriend" killers have several "lovers" and just kill certain ones. At any rate, it sounds like Nora was being lead/romanced by someone, especially given how she was found. I think you're right, there are probably more victims of this guy out there.💔

Since San Francisco is on a peninsula with another county to the south, it was runnning out of room for development. Because of that, cemeteries were moved from San Francisco to Colma starting in about 1929.

I always get so annoyed with my mom being seriously so over protective until I turned 16 I wasn’t allowed to walk around the block by myself and the only reason I can now (I’m 17 turning 18 ugh that’s weird I’m going to be an adult) anyways is because I have my own cell phone I can’t go anywhere without my parents although as of recently the pandemic and all I haven’t really gone out anywhere much anyways;but my mom said something that I understand she always says I’d rather be over protective then be the mother on tv pleading for her daughter to come home . Which as annoying as it is I can understand that .

Probably naive of me, but I didn't realise Sarah Everard's case had reached the US. It feels like what happened to Sarah has shook the UK so much, and it has affected me personally quite badly, more than any other case I can think of.
Crime like that doesn't happen very often here, for a woman to be grabbed and killed by a complete stranger and for him to then turn out to be a cop. It's sickening, it's one of those stories we watch videos about on RUclips, not expect to hear about on our news. Heartbreaking 💔

In the 1800s there were families that couldn’t afford headstones for deceased family members. They would save up for decades to get headstones for the men but the women never got them. That happened in my family. There are spaces between the headstones where we know the women are but we can only guess who is buried there. I don’t know if this was the case here or if it was just due to cost. Also in the 1970s vandals went through the cemetery and moved several tombstones and broke ones that were too heavy to move. It has happened at many cemeteries. Sometimes no one knows where the moved head stones are suppose to go back to.

another thing that confused me was your reference to her burial in Cypress Lawn cemetery in San Francisco. At the time of her death she might have been buried in San Francisco, but after1912 all cemeteries in San Francisco were moved to Colma, a few miles south of San Francisco and since then there have been no burials within the city/county limits of San Francisco. Cypress Lawn is a large cemetery in Colma. If she was buried at Cypress Lawn in Coma, she may be located on their cemetery map. There are many unmarked graves that their records can help locate. You may be able to call then and ask... I went there once looking for a grave that had no headstone and they told me exactly where to find it.

I think she was likely beaten but because of decomposition there probably wasn't much evidence left and was not listed. If she was just hit in the nose or mouth that could have bled badly and transferred during the assault. There is a bone in the throat that breaks and indicates strangulation, so it wasn't impacted by her body not being found right away.

Why was her clothing cut off? Could the alcohol not been enough to subdue her? Maybe she fought, he strangled her then cut the clothes off to assault? You didn’t make any remarks about any potential injuries to her, which I would think there would be if he tried to cut them while alive and fighting. Or maybe she was under the influence when the cutting and assault occurred? Either way, I pray the girl was out and didn’t suffer.
