- All it takes is someone with passion to inspire others! @ACracing24 has done a lot of work searching through the deep archived internet for old files and lost patches and bringing them all together for us to enjoy. With the help of others like Pavel and great members of the old sim community these lost mods and new creations have been packaged up and hosted at a brand new NASCAR Racing 2 fan site!
Although NASCAR 1 was always my first love, I think N2 and later N1999 improved on it in almost every aspect!
So come with me for a little nostalgia trip and enjoy how sim racing was in the late 1990s!

Awesome!! Thank you for the kind words! I’m still a novice in terms getting these old sims off the ground, so the site will be improving over the next few weeks!
Shoutout to ACRacing for leading the revival of this classic!
Days of Thunder City Chevy 46, a man of taste and culture.
AH YES, I SEE YOU TOO ARE A MAN OF CULTURE AND DOWNLOADED THAT WITHIN AN HOUR OF IT GOING LIVE
This is the type of content I adore - a sim thats nearly as old as I am, kept alive long after the devs moved on, and thriving - this, NR03, RBR, GPL.
Pure unadulterated passion for the sport and the genre - though its strange to think in 15 years people will be making similar videos to this but on contemporary simulators.
My buddy and I were inspired by your NASCAR 4 video, so we started an IP career. I have a spreadsheet that simulates qualifying so drivers make and miss races. It's fun as hell. We started in 1990, and we are in 1993. Guys like Richmond, Davey, and Kulwicki are going to stay in the field
Could you made NASCAR 4 work multiplayer?
@@2kignacio2020 I don't think so. We do it over LAN and use an outside points calculator, race points manager
Ghost racers
So you guys sit together with your sim rigs and race against each other?
Man that’s absolutely amazing!
@rolux4853 yeah it's a great time. We could do it over IP remotely but being in the same room is better
I had a Thrustmaster T1 wheel and pedal in the mid 90s racing Papyrus Indycar Racing, and being a NASCAR fan, was thrilled about Papyrus NASCAR racing about a year later. I have 7 or 8 boxed editions of 90s and 2000s NASCAR Racing games. I thought about breaking out an old PC just sitting around for nostalgia sake for a bunch of these old games.
Growing up, I played HOURS of NASCAR Racing 2 (and IndyCar Racing II) so I absolutely feel that nostalgia. I never knew about NASCAR 99 being the 'final' version of NASCAR 2! But the thing I did the most in NASCAR 2 was the paint shop (paint booth? whatever they called it). My cousin and I would spend hours not racing the game, but making new skins. And he became a graphic designer, I do graphics in my day-to-day. I think Sim Racing has all of these fun knock-on effects of introducing all sorts of different types of computing things.
So happy to see my favorite sim racing channel recognizing an up and coming (and ridiculously entertaining) channel. Having Axel Richardson in his races was such a cool easter egg for fans of your careers accross many sims!
ACRacing has some really fun videos. Great addition to my normal viewing of GPLaps.
This account is so underrated. So entertaining and soothing but also informing every single thought. Learn something new about racing every video. Makes me want to do further research on my own.
N2 got me and my brother back into NASCAR and was the first PC game we got into after getting our first computer in 96. Still playing NR 2003 to this day...Would love to see you do a season with N2 or NR 2003 this year! NASCAR Legends would also be amazing, thanks for your great content the past few years!
Man, the amount of time I spent downloading NR2 car sets on a dial-up modem. Loved the Busch expansion pack, especially Nashville Fairgrounds, Hickory, IRP, and South Boston.
Man I loved these racing sims, I had them all. Indy car and nascar, I had every version and add on packs. Still got the discs and booklets around somewhere too. Downloaded just about everything I could get my hands on. Eventually got the Logitech force feedback wheel and pedals, it was the bomb. Great memories.
It's only a pure, deep-seated passion, that can produce something like this.
Ah yes. Nascar Racing 1999--*looks over at his CD-ROM*. I remember attempting a full, 100% race length at Talladega...only my engine blew in the 2nd half of the race..😭 I have tried to find a way to get it to run in DOSBox in recent years, but have never been able to get the 3D acceleration to work well. I should see if anything's been done to "modernize" it in terms of installation and such.
I started out on the original NASCAR Racing and moved up to NR1999 before I ended up using NASCAR Racing 3, and I've been racing that ever since. I started painting cars for the N1 game as well as NR1999 and N3. I ended up painting over 500 cars that still live on in some dusty corner of the web....
Loved these games back in the day. Probably loved them a little too much. I remember spending anywhere from 15 to 20 hours a week racing online with people from all over the world. Now I get my online racing kicks in a game called Zwift, but NASCAR 2,3 and 4 will always hold a place in my heart.
Did a LOT of Papyrus's Nascar sims online way back when. Ran a league for awhile too. Great memories, first racing sim I did online.
Played this tons on my Mac, both at home and at work. This was the sim of the day. It's no wonder it's been rooted inside of me and it's so great to blink and find myself in the future with the kind of rigs and sims at our disposal. This game never gets old. What did get old was playing it with a mouse and keyboard.
imagine being a child in Italy in the early 90s and having a relative bring this game home. I think I loved it even though I knew nothing about American NASCAR. Ricky Rudd, the Labonte brothers, Jeff Gordon...mammamia ❤️
I still have Nascar 2003 (the final Papyrus one) installed and i'ts still my favorite Nascar game to date.
I love Nascar 2 too, it's quite better than 1...
Whoa dude. Taking me back!! I had nascar 98, had an old school wheel set up and all. Seeing all these old cars from my childhood too, awesome. 👏🏽
This is just what I needed, as a fan of Nascar 2 who nevertheless feels the game could use the "Classic Upgrade" treatment! Thanks for exposing me to it.
Really funny that I was watching Days Of Thunder, and this and the first game popped in my head. Such awesome childhood memories playing the first two games. Love the fact it's making a comeback 😁❤️👍
I cant believe this is still around - I used to play this back when it was new.....but I was never that good!🤣
Thanks for the nostalgia trip! NR2 was my first proper sim and blew my mind back in 1997, it felt so immersive for its time. I've still got the CD and the very detailed manual kicking around in storage somewhere.
Loved these games back in the day. I was on still on dial up Internet back then, so the cars would fade in n out. Im from the uk so it was strange hours for me racing online after work.
Racing games still need that mirror. It's a step backwards to need either triplehead monitors or radar hud widgets in its stead.
I stumbled upon ACRacing midway through his NR2 season and I had to go back and watch the whole thing. So damn entertaining.
Spotter is actually Ronald Gaines, according to the credits.
another amazing video, dripping in your special brand of nostalgia. bravo.
This right here was my introduction to NASCAR. My dad bought the game brand new with the Papyrus wheel and pedal set. Thanks for more nostalgia
Great stuff - I loved these classic NASCAR games back in the day. This might get me to try to load them back up
This game and Nascar 1 got me into cars and kept me in a vicious loop and I love it. as a 12/13 year old to see this and then to see the game manual/instruction booklet that contained ACTUAL nascar information regarding how the cars are setup and such.. it was amazing. I must have read that book twice over to find every bit of advantage from the setup.
Why was i so satisfied by the timing of video tags throughout the video!!! Keep up the amazing work Jake!!!!
Thanks for the great info about NR2. The '99 expansion was my first NASCAR game played as a kid.
The Papyrus games I think are the gold standard for NASCAR gaming, so I'm always excited to learn about these communities
I was brought up loving road racing until I started with iRacing about three years ago. That’s when I started to fall into the deep well of oval racing and I almost exclusively run Gen 4 Cup in iRacing now. I’ve taken to it like a duck to water.
So it’s really cool to see the early days of Papyrus getting a revival, and where it all started for the current direction of iRacing. Seeing NR2 in high resolution really helps you see how the physics work and how the racing plays out, and it feels almost like I’m watching an iRacing Gen 4 Cup race but on a computer that’s 30 years old!
Thanks for sharing this and thanks to ACRacing for putting all the hard work in to keep it alive.
Again thanks for the revisit of such great memories! I am still so proud to have been a small part of this era of sim racing working and beta testing these early games from what I consider one of the best developers of sims and eras of racing in general of all time! These were definitely tight for their time, all things considered.❤
excellent video, I for one played a lotta NASCAR 2 back when I got that game in 1996 :) the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s were my favorite era of NASCAR.
i played so much nascar racing 3 when i was a kid, it was alot of fun for the day
YESSS My favorite NASCAR Simulator of all time! Thank you for covering this and Thank you so so much ACRacing for archiving this amazing simulation
This is awesome!!!! Can't wait to get my wheel out and try this out.
damn i remember this game in 1994. it totally blew me away with the crash models.. i could crash all day and it never got boring
love it, thanks for racing and sharing :))
I ran a lot of races on T.E.N. on NR2/99season. Wish that was still around!
crazy seeing this game again. this was the game that put me up on nascar games and sim racing games in general. GP did you also play EA's Nascar SimRacing 2005? that game was actually solid and it would be awesome seeing it in one of your videos as well
This was the first computer game I ever played on our home computer... over 24 years ago.
This was my first ever racing game! So so so good. And it had Trucks!
Hit the damn pace car.
Man, this game was a lot of my childhood.... Even spent hours playing around in the Paint shop in this game. :D
LOVE THIS !!!!!! Thanx Jake
i originally thought that the spotter was Ned Jarrett, but found out later that it is Terry Labonte's dad. they sound identical. Ned was excellent as color commentary.
I'm a big fan of AC. I was in his last season series for NR03. He's funny and makes fun content.
I had nascar 2001 as a kid I would love to play it again
So glad to see people playing this again!
Remember driving (or rather goofing around) NASCAR Racing 2 on my friend's computer in the late 90s. I think he had a wheel and pedal set (or at least a controller), but we played with keyboard and often just tried to cause the biggest wreck possible. Oh, simpler times...
Loved this game back in the day
I’ve been watching his series & it’s is a great time and funny throughout & have been playing the dos box ECE version with the help of that one Indycar racing 2 tutorial & got it running perfectly until he released a upgraded game & was one day before my birthday
Gotta say I was a happy man that day.
I tried my original Copy of NR2 a couple of months ago, but I Had trouble setting up my wheel and pedals. Thx for the tips Jake. Will try vJoy as soon as possible 👍
Wasn't familiar with NR2 running on 3D acceleration! When I saw the graphics, the texture filtering, I could swear it was NASCAR Racing 3 instead (which I love and am still playing, namely some full seasons). Love the choice of wheel as well, and hey, the resurgence of old modding pages is so cool.
In an era where search engines and social media are cluttered with generated content and fake stuff, seeing cool websites with mods, a community interacting and all, is priceless!
Can not wait to race this with my dd wheel for a true sim expierience lol. NR1999 was my first nascar game on pc so this brings back so many memories.
This brings back some memories. I put soo many hours into this game back in the day. Modded to the shithouse too
in case the community hasn't made it's love for GP Laps obvious lately, we love you GP Laps, the jewel of sim racing!
NASCAR Racing 2 was my first NASCAR sim ever which I was playing at first with the keyboard and doing some 100% length races.
"Try to stay away from Jimmy Spencer" made me LOL. Wasn't his nickname "Mr. Excitement"? Thanks as always for bringing back the great memories.
Awesome video ,I love in Indiana and I was there at that race they did litterly a lottery system for getting tickets ,I was at this race and walking down Georgetown road outside the main straight away I bought a small key chain of Jeff Gordon Car and told my girlfriend they were is today's winner and of course he won I love about an hour from the track. My birthday is around or in the Indy 500,
Awesome, I need to try this.
Would be neat to do a story line of Ryan Axelson from your IndyCar season streams, makes his Cup Debut racing at the 1994 Brickyard 400 or Daytona 500. Checked out their website and it looks great! Glad N2/N99 is getting some love! I still have my original CD-ROM disc for N2.
My first racing sim.
Man. Years ago i thought i would never play this old game again and dropped it off with a bunch of old EA sets to goodwill.
Im sure someone in the world is enjoying some nastalgia racing. I wish i still had it. Racing on this old game was a blast. Cars were super loose. And AI was easy to move out the way..lol
Dale smacked the wall lap one and Ernie blew a tire late. Only big challenges Jeff had was from those 2
This is great!
I used to love playing this game. Remember doing a 200 lapper once (with a keyboard) and crashing out with 2 to go 😂 - have to try and get this up and running again.
Love your work/play I’m about to forget iracing for something better like this. Thanks
How is a game from 30 years ago still better than any Nascar game we have gotten since??? Its crazy to me.
Way cool! I had this game back in the day. The 3 way mirror is nice, wish the new Forza had that 😂
I used to turn the damage on my car off, then turn around and drive the wrong way until everyone else was wrecked, then I would turn around and go win the race.
I started a season in NR1999 awhile ago with 100% races for trucks (I upload the videos too). It was a bit of a time commitment so haven't made much progress the past year. Maybe I need to go back and start it up again. Flemington is next on the schedule!
If you damaged an AI car that was smoking, instead of pitting and retiring from the race they'd fix the damage and finish the rest of the race with a trail of smoke the whole time lol.
i also always viewed NR2 1999 as an expansion pack for people that didnt have a powerful enough computer to play NR3, since both games are based on the 1999 season
Except that the cars and trucks that came with NASCAR 99 were all from 1998. NASCAR 3 had '99 cars.
Oh boy! Makes we want play some Dirt To Daytona on PS2 somehow.
That wheel rim is pretty awesome, where did you snag that from or what brand is it? I bet I could print an adapter to use that on my T818?
Where'd you get the track?
Of all the Papy sims, I spent the most time in NR99, loved it to death. Thanks for the memories and keep them coming!
Cool thing about the 1994 carset, Nascar racing 1 came out as of now nearly 30* years ago. So in a way it being in nr2/99 is essentially a anniversary set!
Edit: forgot it came out 30 years ago
All totalled, I think I've raced 44 seasons in N2. With the 50th anniversary edition. We did end up getting N99 for the Trucks, but by that time we were already using N3 for regular seasons.
Out of curiosity, was Tim Steele in the #12 in this race?
Man I remember playing this as a teenager with a joystick!
Also what wheel and petal setup do you have. That big wheel is sweet. Im looking to get back into sim racing.
This was my nascar pc game. Spent a lot of hours crapily making car sets to where I maxed it out
I used to have so many add-ons, patches, carsets and tracks for N1/N2/Nr1999 and N3.
But I'd never backed them up between different PC builds 😢
Cool...When do we get Richie Axleson's '67 season continued???
Even though I live here in the Brazilian Amazon, I still have the physical media version of Nascar Racing 1 and 2.
Wait, Ned Jarrett was the spotter? I seem to remember someone other than that being listed in the credits.
i played this game a lot
I've been playing NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. The only disappointment so far is no mid-race saves.
its hard to go back to the 2d physics of the old Nascar games, even the AI wasnt that great compaired to NR2k3.
Was this one where you could even download skins for the haulers on the infield?
We wish you become full time youtuber to post videos everyday.
There are some mods for the mirror, to remove the blind spots. You edit the settings numbers, haven't been able to find it.
Do you ever have tried the Cup90 Mod for AC with 1994 skins😊
Thx for all your Videos
