  • In this video I compared my Wingard HD7694P antenna to my Channel Masters Advantag 45 antenna just to see which one performed the best. The signal strength on these antennas were almost identical, except for channel 5 which operates on 79 Mhz. Since Winegard doesn't recommend this antenna for the VHF Low band my results were not surprising, But I have since discovered a simple modification for the winegard antenna which boosted its range on channel 5. You can see it in this video. • Winegard TV Antenna Mo...
Both of these antennas had a listed range of 45 miles, but their real range is based on several factors such as the transmitters power and the transmitter location.. One important thing to note about the TV antennas is the manufactures will often list what frequencies their antennas do the best at, and they may offer other antennas that do better at specific frequencies. A good example is the channel master advantage 45 antenna Vs the channel master digital advantage 45, These Two antennas are said to have a 45 mile range, but the one I demonstrated in this video performs far better on channel 5 than the digital advantage 45.

I think a good rule of thumb is: If you want to pickup Low-VHF signals, you need an antenna with LONG elements. Channel 2 (about 57Mhz) needs to be about 100" wide! It's pretty clear just looking at those antennas that the wide one (ChannelMaster) is going to mop the floor with the others in the Lo-VHF (Ch 2-6) range.

The naming is so similar that it can be confusing. I would like to say I have been researching these antennas. I have learned that the Digital Advantage 45 (CM-2016) is for UHF and only high VHF channels. The Advantage 45 (CM-3016) is for UHF, high VHF and also for low VHF channels. Physically the Advantage 45 (CM-3016) has more VHF elements and is indeed a larger antenna than its baby brother the Digital Advantage 45 (CM-2016).

@@mktwatcher All I did was add 14 inches of wire to each of the Two elements, and I saw no degredation to the other chennels by doing this, The winegard HD7694P has been one of my favorite antennas for this area other than the problem it's had getting channel 5, so this saves me from having to buy a more expensive antenna. • @GrantsPassTVRepair

If you live in Glendale Oregon, the only TV signals you can pick up are channel 5, 8, and 12 plus their sub-channels which come from the King Mountain transmitter, and you probably need to point your antenna 93 degrees for best reception if you live near the center of Glendale.. I would suggest you first try a TV antenna without an amplifier to see if an amplifier is necessary. A good antenna for Glendale would probably be the channel masters "Advantage 45" although I'd be curious to try the smaller RCA ANT705E antenna, to see if you can get away with a much smaller antenna. I've only done one antenna in Glendale, and I know it's not the best location of TV reception, but they have good internet speeds through fiber optics in Glendale. Here is one I did in Glendale a few years ago. ruclips.net/video/7HAPt5dH4IE/видео.html
