The Datel / Code Junkies Gotcha Classic is an updated version of their original "Gotcha" (with the red and white checkered wristband). [I purchased it directly from them in the UK, but it is now available via Amazon with a lower total price if you have prime shipping.]
This model is slightly larger than the original gotcha, has a full color screen, and a magnetic charging cable. You can ALMOST charge it with the magnetic cable without taking it out of the band, but I've found that the connection is intermittent and not stable unless you pull the pill shaped unit out of the rubber wristband for charging.
It works almost exactly like the original gotcha, but has two added features. 1) You can now "reverse" the top/bottom of the user interface, and 2) You can disable the display (so it does not show auto-throw, auto-spin animations). [This is probably because the display is brighter than the original gotcha....also, to save battery life, which is my only complaint about the unit.]
It auto-throws red balls / Auto-Catches pokemon, and will also auto-spin pokestops just like the original gotcha. I've found that the battery life is lower than with the original unit. It will run for 3-4 hours of usage no problem, but if you are doing a really intensive day of running it for a full 8 hours, it will not make it to the end of the day without a re-charge (even with the vibration and screen turned off). If you are just taking it out for an hour walk this isn't an issue, but if you are going to be hitting a theme park all day, you'll need to bring the charging cable and a USB powerpack to top it back up mid-day. [It re-charges relatively quickly....]
So if you have lost your original gotcha (The originals tend to pop out of their bands at the least opportune moment) this is a good replacement (I feel like it snaps into the band just a little bit more securely) but you may not get as much runtime from it as you are used to with the original.
On android, the firmware update procedure is a chrome web browser based app (in-browser app) that allows you to change all of the on/off options that you can do on the bands GUI, and also supports firmware updates. [My band had firmware 1.0.0 from the factory, and so far has not updated the firmware.]
