I thought it was an absolutely unnecessary sequal and tainted the brilliance of the first one. Some of the scenes are great (like Jack Jack and the Raccoon) and would have made wonderful shorts, the animation was gorgeous, I want to live in that mid century house they were given to stay in, but the plot overall was bland, predictable and the character development from the first was almost completely undone. As a huge fan of the first, I was really dissapointed that they didn't say no to a sequal.
I could see it being set a few years after Incredibles 2. Violet and Tony have been dating for some time now and despite running off every now and again, he isn't too worried about Violet. I feel like the story will center around Violet and Dash figuring out what they want to do with life and choosing a path that's theirs.
@@harshmann510why would they? It’s already established in the story that Tony likes her back, it would just be a dumb move if Disney did that… but really, Disney has been doing some dumb things lately
The reason Dash eats so much is because he burns more calories than an average person because of his speed. It’s actually a pretty common trope for speedster characters.
Yeah, that's a trope that always bugged me. I mean, most super-powers use a lot of energy. Why are speedsters the only ones who need to eat more to replenish it? That's not counting solar-powered heroes like Superman and Starfire, of course. Although there was a story in Action Comics #454 in which Superman's body stopped absorbing solar energy and he had to eat constantly to keep his power level up.
The style is called retrofuturism, and yeah, there's quite a bit of it in The Incredibles, though they don't go overboard with chrome, and fins, and whatnot.
I think you missed a point when Jack Jack was watching tv. He saw some burglars with blk masks at the same time he 1st saw the racoon. Thus associating racoon in garbage as a bad guy. 🙂
I think there’s an important distinction too between having complicated feelings and jealousy come up and taking those out on his wife. We see a lot of Bobs reactions but he clearly is trying to be supportive in spite. No one feels all the perfect things and no one should be expected to, but besides a little initial prickliness at feeling like he wasn’t wanted/yesterday’s news, Bob does a decent job holding it together while actually interfacing with Helen, and holding down the fort generally. Baby with powers seems very new to them and he’s still white knuckling it to not distract Helen.
Tony didn’t recognize Violet because Rick Dicker erased Tony’s memory of seeing Violet without her mask and apparently every other memory he had of her.
I think it was a miscommunication issue between Mr Incredible and Rick Dicker. Mr Incredible wanted good, but with the way he worded it he probably didn't realize Rick will delete all of the memories of her.
19:45 In theaters, they forgot to add potential seizure warnings because of this fight scene. A lot of people were not happy at the flashing lights when Elastigirl fought the guy she thought was ScreenSlaver. Those warnings were immediately added since quite a few people during the premiere reported having medical issues.
"The Outer Limits" [the TV show that was playing when Dash approached Bob for help with his homework] was an actual TV show comparable to "The Twilight Zone" that played from 1963 to 1965 - thus giving a hint as to when this movie takes place.
2:27: That's a great visual pun, even though you didn't realize it. Jack-Jack was watching a show where the bad guys wore masks. The raccoon's eye markings look like a mask, and to a baby, it was "stealing" their trash. He wasn't trying to hurt animals. Jack-Jack was trying to be a hero. If you sounded out Evelyn's name, you would've guessed she was the mastermind behind the Screenslaver. Evelyn Deaver. Evil Endeavor. I'd love to see where they take The Incredibles 3.
True Violet can turn invisible, but as you just saw not even 3 seconds before you said that she still leaves footprints if she walks in something that tacks under her boots. So there's no point becoming invisible if you are still being tracked.
My big gripe with this sequel is at the beginning, Brad Bird took two steps backwards by having Bob and Helen tell their super kids to find a safe spot to hide after all they endured during the first movie together.
The dinner table conversation shows that Bob is not just a "superhero junkie" like he was kind of shown in the first movie, which he of course is, but he is also a genuine "good guy".. like Superman or Captain America. In fact the parents have a similar argument as we saw in Captain America Civil War between Steve and Tony. To make a long story short, Bob would probably be "worthy". :P So, he is not jealous of her her, he is jealous she gets to do it.. just look at her, a grown woman is acting like a teenager, that's how Bob feels inside everytime he saves someone and that's what he is jealous of. he is a superhero junkie. There is also the issue of Bob having something like "spidey sense", he feels/predicts crime and it was subtley shown even in the first movie, so imagine him sitting there for 15 years literally feeling people being wronged left and right, every single day and being able to do something about it, but you can't cause of some laws. It must be driving him crazy.
About "New Math." In 1970, New Math was introduced and a growing snowball of complaints were received, so, it was done away with before the school year ended.. I remember my math teacher collecting up the new math books and handing out the old math books-printed in the 1950's. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Glad you enjoyed this one. I like the first Incredibles better but overall, 2 is good. Some Fun Facts FYI: - Evelyn Deavor = Evil Endeavor - Jack-Jack sees criminals on tv wearing masks, then he sees the racoon with a mask "stealing" garbage. - It's a common superhero trope that speedsters burn a lot of calories and need to eat a lot of food to refuel.

FWIW, "survival of the fittest" isn't something that Darwin ever said, it was a concept applied to modification with descent long after Darwin's time. Also, "fitness" in that concept isn't about who's strongest or best, it's about being adapted or suited to your surroundings. There are tiny rodents who are the "fittest" to live in desert patches, but it's unlikely that any of them will ever be super heroes.
@M3_Minty that has nothing to do with what I said and it has nothing to do with Darwin. I'm just clearing up misconceptions about a common phrase, I'm not saying it's okay to abuse animals, and if you don't get that you're either a troll or a moron or both. Get over yourself.
Bob wants to be a super again and even though he loves his wife, he can't help but to feel jealous of that she gets the mission and not him. I understand his frustration in this situation.
🤔 What these movies have in common with the Harry Potter franchise, is that the stories don't take place in any specific year, decade or era. They all have a few elements that are exclusive to the 21st century, but still maintain a lot of retro-items that were no long being manufactured by the end of the 20th. I suppose that's merely the best way to go with any story that involves supernatural elements.
Fun fact in the scene where Helen is talking to Bob on the phone there is a painting behind her that shows red shapes on a white background. Bob being a large rectangle, Violet a narrow paint line, dash a triangle, Jack Jack a little round dot and Helen being a more narrow triangle with that appears to be a twist to it. as well as a god line going behind all of them but Helens is off to the side away from the others. Showing that even if they are all not with each other they are still there for each other which is a reoccurring theme in the movie. As Bob supports Helen and the Kids in a new role and the kids support their dad after seeing the toll its taking on him and the same with Helen supporting her family from afar now.
The way I think of Bob in this movie is that he IS happy for his wife, he just wishes they could be doing her job together. It has nothing to do with her being the one doing the job. He just doesn’t want to go back to being in a cubicle. If they could work together, he’d be more happy than if he was flying solo.
I' ve said Mr. Deaver, reminded of someone and that someone was Walt Disney, the younger version. Check out the last name, the number of letters in both. Yes, I have a feeling, Winston has somehow found a way to become a superhero, this way he needs them back in action. Hope I'm wrong but a cool idea.
My thoughts are they changed math so all the no child left behind students that are now parents have to try and figure out this convoluted new way to help their kids and end up learning some basic math in the process.
Only person who didnt enjoy JackJack and Racoon scenes. Jack Jack is no issue to animals, he simply mistook the raccoon for a burgular. Jack was bein a hero in his own innocent hysterical way lol
This is the early 1960s, it's very hard for Bob to accept not being the bread winner for the family because that's the way it was back then. Change was just starting to happen. Heck, Mary Tyler Moore didn't even air on TV until 8 years after this time.
Come on, Jack-Jack is a baby and he thinks the raccoon is a theif (technically, they are since they steal food from trash cans). Also raccoons, despite loking cute, they can be quite agressive. Their claws are sharp and have sharp teeth. A normal baby would get seriously injured in best senario and killed at worst.
I thought they were referring to math being changed to that God awful Common Core of a few years ago. Since the movie was made in 2o18, which ties together with the New Math of the 197o's, which falls into the retro feel of film, by tying something old into something new.
I love this movie as a sequel to the original! Animation--especially textures and hair--were brought up to the next level without sacrificing the style of the original. I agree the villain plot might have been a bit straightforward, but I think the rewarding work being done in the plot in terms of their family dynamics more than makes up for it. As a 40+ year old father I obviously am going to see this through the filter of Bob but I absolutely love the complexity of his reactions to what is happening. It is completely accurate and fine to note his jealousy. I think the nuance to his reactions is twofold. Before having a family they both got to express themselves as superheroes, but post family and the crackdown they show in the first movie he takes on the role of breadwinner with a j-o-b. It does not look like he finds anything rewarding in it. I think Helen stepping into homemaker/caregiver could be just as stifling if she also yearns to be back out there, but where the 1st movie doesn't address this the 2nd steps right into the middle of it when Helen gets the nod and Bob stays at home. For the Bob character both transitioning out of the role of breadwinner as well as seeing his wife getting to step back into superhero work it's very well done seeing his reactions of clearly knowing he needs to be supportive even as his very human selfish urges are jealous. That Helen also struggles with the new role (not in superhero terms, but being out of the house after so long being the center of the house) adds layers.
I hope if they do indeed make a 3rd Incredibles, they should age up the kids to where Dash is in Jr High, Violet in College and Jack Jack in elementary school. The story could be focused on them dealing with their hero and personal lives, Bob and Helen could be the same but getting older to where they are slowing down. Could be cool to see.
I always read it less that Jack Jack was trying to hurt the raccoon, but because of what he was watching, he saw the raccoon looking like the thief and has a distinct sense of justice.
Well the thing is that it's NOT hard for Bob to let his wife be a "super." What's hard is that he's not doing it WITH her. Bob is an old fashioned kind if man. Which supports the setting of these movies as they appear to be set in the 70's , just with "superhero" based technology. Bob is a man raised to believe that HE had to take care of his family. It's not exactly a negative way of thinking; because he literally shows that he's willing to change and become a more involved father as the movie goes on. It's just that he is also extremely invested in being Mr. Incredible and to be told he's not needed is a genuine blow to his sense of self; and yes even his ego to a degree. To someone with Bob's mindset Helen being a mother and homemaker isn't something degrading or sexist; she's GOOD at it and he loves her even more for that. I feel like he's more hurt about not being involved, than her being chosen.
What happened to Violet at the restaurant almost happened to me just now... because of what happened to Violet lmfaooooo I was drinking Root Beer and I forgot about that scene and now my nose is burning from Root Beer being in it 🤣
10:53 - "What are you watching?" - That's the intro to a 1963, anthology sci-fi TV show called The Outer Limits. It lasted two seasons, for a total of 49 1-hour episodes. It was revived in 1995 for the Showtime cable channel, where it ran for six seasons there before moving to the SciFi Channel for the seventh and final season. The full intro is "There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We can reduce the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... The Outer Limits." This foreshadows the movie's villain.
New math is the same old math, just solved in different methods. The different methods make it supposedly easier for different brain types to solve the problems.
I'm still waiting for the next sequel that has Dash and Violet being teenagers in high school and Jack Jack experimenting with his powers in elementary school.
What are Jack Jack's powers? His powers are: everything. He can do everything. He can do whatever the script needs him to do at that moment. "That's just lazy writing." - Deadpool
The US goverment changed math in 1957 in a attempt to make kids smarter because The Cold War was happening during this time, with possible outcome of nuclear bombings from the Soviet Union (today's Russia), which thankfully didn't happen. This was based on director Brad Bird's childhood as he was taught New Math in school and his dad had trouble helping him with homework. For more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Math
You need to watch “Jack-Jack Attack”-a short that was included with the DVD, but never shown in theatres. It covers what happened with Kari babysitting Jack-Jack before Syndrome tried to kidnap the baby at the end.
I REALLY liked your reactions, you get into films like I do !!! LOL. SWEET. You were spot on with your observations and deductions and it made re-watching this GREAT movie even better than watching it alone. I want to see more,so I subscribed. Keep'em coming-PLEASE. LOL.
Ellen says '' No casualties! '' after she saved the train ok BUT what about the peoples in the building after she fight the fake screen slaver? I'm sure they are really hurt or dead! Bob didn't killed anyone when he was in the jungle with the robot or in Syndrome's base; he knocked out a few guards AND saved peoples from the burning building. His wife knows what a hero is supposed to do right? Doesn't look like it in this movie!
I quite enjoyed how they expanded on the sequel. I really wish for an Edna Mode origin film; she’s the best character! I do often wonder if Jack Jack’s unlimited powers would become limited as he gets older and settles in as himself. If you want more superhero films I recommend these underrated classics: SKY HIGH, ZOOM, and UP UP AND AWAY.
The time when Jack jack went to another dimension, he was in the Movie Monsters Inc at this time-line of the movie 28:46 talking about a kid shooting a car with his Lazier eyes.
Yes, I agree. The mixture of Futuristic Stark-esque technology and 1970's-ish style theme fits very well. Or maybe it's even earlier, like perhaps 1950's-ish. I get the kind of CoD: Black Ops - Nuke Town vibes from the imagery. Or also like the kind of technology showcased in Fallout 4, before the Nuke hits. That was what the 50's or 60's?? This movie has the appearance of what people in the 60's thought the 2000's would look like.
I can live with The Incredibles 3 or a live action The Incredibles. I plan to make a 3D animated DC universe that can be as beloved as The Incredibles.
Winston Deavor is voiced by Bob Odenkirk but you know him better as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. Lol 😂 Common Core math failed for two reasons. One it was unfamiliar to parents. Two it had students thinking about solving math in a variety of ways rather than memorizing one general purpose algorithm. 😂
Fun fact Jack Jack attacking the raccoon was because the raccoon's face looks like burglar's mask and he was just watching a crime show about burglars while Bob was sleeping. So his baby mind thought the raccoon was a bad guy that he needed to attack, like a hero would.
Okay so Fun Fact: Miss Marvel - in the comics - is pretty much Elastigirl. With a few minor variations on the specifics of her abilities, she's supposed to be another type of Mr Fantastic. But MCU decided that her powers needed something new and different as the test screenings were not at all remotely positive. The CGI looked God-awful apparently. So there were complete reshoots with the complete overhaul of her powers.
Did you guys think it was a good sequel?

Third movie should focus on Jack Jack. Tony would know and accept her soon to be girlfriend’s “situation”. Edna would appear more.
Jak jak thought the raccoon was a robber cuz he was watching a cops and robbers show and the raccoon looked like the robber so he attacked it
One of the best animated sequels ever. If you haven't seen it yet, you should watch Finding Nemo next.
The name of the sister, Evelyn Deaver, was thought by some to be intentionally chosen.
Evelyn Deaver= Evil Endeavor
"Oh that sucks" that is in fact what a vacuum typically does 😂
While the others all have specific powers, Jack Jack's many powers represent his potential. My guess is that the number would diminish over time.
Invincible has officially scarred vkunia her thinking the boyfriend would die to a car throw 😂😂😂
Your enthusiasm and love of this is so infectious!
It takes place in the 1960s which is why it's so retro
Had a crush on violet when I was a tween watching the original 😅
Always love your video's I am hoping for an Incredibles 3 as well
2:26 "oh, that sucks" chef's kiss comedy
I'm still waiting for the next sequel that has Dash and Violet being teenagers in high school and Jack Jack experimenting with his powers in elementary school.
The music for the Incredibles took me back to growing up watching the original Johnny Quest cartoons of Saturday mornings. BEST THEME SONG EVER!!!
Mike and Saul in this caught me by surprise.
What are Jack Jack's powers? His powers are: everything. He can do everything. He can do whatever the script needs him to do at that moment.
"That's just lazy writing." - Deadpool
Outer Limits which starts every time with "we control the horizontal..."
Damn, you see through their act so quickly! I'm always the dumb one who's surprised by everything... it's great! ;)

18:45. Doesn't V usually recognize memes when she finally sees them in context? I guess she never saw "Math is Math" or the grumpy/angry violet faces?
Aren't these films secretly about how free market economics are better than managed nationalised economies? It feels really shoehorned in.
The reason elastigirl’s grey suit got ripped is because hypnotized Mr incredible grabbed her as she stretched
Thanks!
Yes, vacuums do suck...lol.
I loved this movie, I always found Jack Jack hilarious, and the animation really Improved (I can’t believe it took so long for this movie to come out)
Great reaction, so glad you enjoyed the movie! Got all cheered up from your energy!
This movie has the appearance of what people in the 60's thought the 2000's would look like.
how the hell did Vkunia keep her calm during the racoon scene? it still puts me on the floor, funniest piece of animation ever created.
Because she was more concerned that there was violence towards an animal.
I can live with The Incredibles 3 or a live action The Incredibles. I plan to make a 3D animated DC universe that can be as beloved as The Incredibles.

That's the exact same face I made when I saw the car was red👍
Still my favorite Pixar sequel was it predictable yes but a predictable fun ride Vicky.
I wonder if it was an intentional throwback to Poltergeist to have the voice of Craig T. Nelson dealing with his baby’s voice from another dimension.
Winston Deavor is voiced by Bob Odenkirk but you know him better as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. Lol 😂
Common Core math failed for two reasons. One it was unfamiliar to parents. Two it had students thinking about solving math in a variety of ways rather than memorizing one general purpose algorithm. 😂
We had to wait 14 years for this sequel but it was worth it!
Fun fact Jack Jack attacking the raccoon was because the raccoon's face looks like burglar's mask and he was just watching a crime show about burglars while Bob was sleeping. So his baby mind thought the raccoon was a bad guy that he needed to attack, like a hero would.
This movie is a classic ✨✨✨
Okay so Fun Fact: Miss Marvel - in the comics - is pretty much Elastigirl. With a few minor variations on the specifics of her abilities, she's supposed to be another type of Mr Fantastic. But MCU decided that her powers needed something new and different as the test screenings were not at all remotely positive. The CGI looked God-awful apparently. So there were complete reshoots with the complete overhaul of her powers.
