Hey actor! If you’re still hunting for the perfect fit monologue, I’ve put together a collection of my favourite Shakespeare monologues sorted by casting type and general vibe. Makes it easy to pick one you love and another one to contrast. You can find it here: shakespearewithsarah.com/shakespeare-collection/

For someone as gifted as Helena, the biggest suspension of disbelief this play imposes on its audience is that she would fall for Bertram. I've reduced this motive to either two parts:
    1. She is naive in love. She is so romantically ambitious that it has made her blind (much like anyone's first experience when infatuated with someone once they're young).
    2. Security but... Even that seems unconvincing as she had it once she cured the king.

Yeah it’s so interesting isn’t it! I think it’s the first one. To me it actually feels quite realistic because I’ve known so many women who have been obsessed with terrible men 😂 An age-old problem I think. But I like to think she sees more clearly by the end of the play.

@@ShakespearewithSarah I wondered if it started as a naive crush, but turns into a problem that she just can't resist solving. She likes winning. I love that she turns the title of the play into a kind of mantra that she repeats over and over as she strongarms the conclusion of the play into a comedy. Great job exploring her duality and guilt here!

hi ! i have an audition coming up for uni soon and i was planning to use Helena’s “ then i confess “ monologue , do you think it’s suitable for a 17 year old to use for auditions ? also is this a blank verse monologue ? :)
