I've been doing watercolors for 32 years and only in the last couple of years have I heard the term underpainting. I didn't know what that was or why you would do that until today. Thank you for sharing this watercolor technique.

This is a great help for me to get better shadows! Your ways of darkening orange and changing values and hues over the orange are really helpful. I've been making my shadows and highlights by using more pigment for dark areas and more water for light areas. Also, I've used some complementary colors and a dot of black to darken colors. But you've opened my eyes to a great technique! Thanks. I'm going to go practice this right now.

Great tutorial. I love the idea of under painting with a complimentary color. I can’t wait to try. Maybe you could include what specific colors you use as you paint?

Thanks for explaining how to use complementary colours to create shadows. I find it quite intimidating to do shadows this way, but you explained it very well, I'll give it a try :)

Thank you. Creating depth seemed harder for to achieve in watercolor; before I watched your video. In terms of shadows. Of course you would have to keep in mind ,to use more translucent colors (which are many in watercolor)
