- Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice speaks to the media after his team’s final practice before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
The Panthers have lost three straight games in this series after taking a 3-0 series lead.
Edmonton is trying to be just the second team to win a championship after being down 3-0 and first since the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942.

Edmonton took a 3-0 lead going into the third period with Sasha Barkov scoring early in the third.
Florida got no closer with the Oilers scoring two empty-net goals.
Barkov had a goal taken off the board in the second period due to an offside challenge.

Well, one week ago I was super confident and ready to see my team raise the Stanley Cup. There’s so many emotions right now for me as a fan. I’m going to give Edmonton a lot of credit for being really damn hungry. They’re playing so well I think the Panthers are scared and they don’t play well scared clearly. Edmonton outplayed Florida in games 1 & 3. Panthers never dominated this series. They rode a hot goalie to win 3 games. Then got their asses handed to them in 4-6

Reporters are very easy with this guy. Softball feel good questions. He puts in Nick Cousins for the 1st time in Game 6 & no one asks why or if it helped. Cousins looked totally gassed after every shift & not in shape for this level of intensity.

It sounds like the Florida coach doesn’t have any new ideas whatsoever. His big adjustment last game was taking Montour off the power play. In Game 5, it was moving E-Rod back to the second line. 😂 Florida can still win Game 7, but it won’t be because of the coaching.
A reporter should ask... “do you think grossly exaggerating injuries during games has ticked off the Hockey gods?? This seems like a Hockey gods thing losing 3 straight after winning 3 straight.” 🤔

Paul has made minimum adjustments on 3 straight losses. His team has not came out with speed at all. A goalie that can’t stop a deflated beach ball. It’s bad. But you have one more chance. Either the highest moment in your franchises history, or your lowest.

The NHL is a copy cat league. VGK were big and strong and physical and had enough scoring and won the cup. Both Dallas and the Panthers tried to copy them but are too similar and the Oilers beat Dallas and now have figured out the Panthers who have the same game. Paul Maurice made the adjustment to a D first heavy forecheck in a year. It was a good run but it will be a rebuild. Maurice is clearly a good coach but I think he is out of ideas. I hope I’m wrong. Maybe playing with desperation will be enough. McDavid didn’t do much in game 6 though. Also Bob’s
game is not right.

He is being out coached. How else can you explain the lack of desperation the team has had the last 3 games? When one of your star players says, in the post game, " they wanted it more than us", that is a coaching problem.

One thing I know in sports is things can change in a flash. When everyone expected the Panthers to win the cup, all of a sudden Edmonton storms back. Now that everyone is celebrating like the Oilers already won, I won’t be shocked to see the Panthers pull it out. They still have the better defence and depth, in my opinion, and a couple early goals by the panthers and some shut down hockey could be enough to propel them to victory.
Now that they know that they have no more opportunities after this, they should, should play better. At least not beat themselves.

Throw the first 3 Panthers wins out the window and throw the last 3 Oilers wins out the window, as it's now a one game Super Bowl and I actually think the Panthers right the ship and win game 7. Paul Maurice is from my hometown, so he can't lose lol. I think Florida plays with a pissed off attitude and erases the last 3 embarrassing losses. Edmonton can take pride in almost coming all the way back and McDavid wins the Conn Smythe. Just my opinion and if Edmonton does win, I will win 669 dollars on earlier bets, so we'll see Monday night.

In my books, if Paul Maurice loses game 7, I would never hire the guy to coach my hockey team. After losing while up 3-0 in the SCF, while returning a second year in a row, it would be the ultimate failure. And in hockey, this is something I would recommend he just resign and retire over.

The last 3 games Florida played stand up hockey with Edmonton. That being said, Florida obviously relies on those scrums and scruffy hits to beat them. It worked against Boston and it worked against New York. Now that Edmonton exposed Florida in Game 4 they have the mental advantage and Game 7 is the biggest mental game.

McDavid couldn't have scored on his fancy dangle play between the two Florida players if they had checked him down to the ice. The Panther physicality has been missing these last three games.

Look I was nervous before the series began and thought the Oilers would have a tough time pushing past the Panthers, as I was concerned about the stability of Skinner, everything-else seemed pretty balanced from my perspective and now as the series draws to a close the Oilers have separated themselves so far from the Panthers on all fronts, especially coaching. Panthers lost their structure and game plan in last 3 games, opposite to what he said.

Its easier to change the coach than the team. But team is very badly hit too in case if loss.
hope they done some team building/chemistry drills. like some soccer or hackey sack. guys look flustered and out of their comfort zone. unsure of plays to make when they get the puck. players not making themselves ready or playing with anticipation for the puck carrier, or where the play is going. kind of seems like a miracle is needed. i get where pomo is coming from. but also seems like there is quite the ignorance of the elephant in the room
