Vintage Christmas songs are my favorite! The way Frank Sinatra & Burl Ives croon through the speakers while you’re wrapping presents, trimming the tree, or baking cookies just epitomizes what Christmas is!
My grandma spoke Swedish as her roots were back in Sweden. My church here in Chicago, USA, was founded and the building actually built by the Swedes who emigrated from Sweden to the USA. So, naturally, Christmas for us was flavored with much Swedish tradition. Sadly the language was not passed down, though we did sing at least one Swedish song on Christmas morning in church for which I merely mimicked the words as we sang. I came looking for that one song and found your video. I'm going to check out your playlist. Maybe I'll find it there. Thank you, miss, for sharing of your country which has been a piece of my heart all my life.
I have a massive collection of Christmas music as I am 67. My very favorites are medieval carols as I was a history major of the medieval era, but I also love all Christmas carols. Modern Christmas music leaves me pretty cold nowadays, no spirit in it.
While I like most any kind of Christmas music I sure love the oldies that were so popular when I was a child. And that was a really long time ago because I'm quite an "oldie" myself!!! I guess they bring back a lot of good memories of my childhood. I especially love the beautiful music that brings honor and glory to Christ Jesus because, to me, He is the reason for this beautiful season! God bless you sweet girl!
I like the traditional carols. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is my favourite. I checked out your Spotify list. Even though I don't understand the words, I get the Spirit of it. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing! My favorites are the older songs and the traditional hymns but I also like to mix it up a bit in my Playlist. Something for everyone in the family so to speak :)
Christmas songs are so wonderful! I love all those old songs very much! My favorites are all the "winter" songs of Frank Sinatra! And as I'm a huge fan of the "Queen" on the top of my list is always "Thank God it's Christmas")
I agree, my favorites are also all those older songs. I do have other songs in my Playlist though, since I grew up with them and they kinda brings back some fond and loving memories. Also, it's fun to mic it up a little! My favorites are the Frank Sinatra/Judy garland/Bing Crosby /Nat King Cole kinda music. :)
I probably have around 100 Christmas cds and vinyl records. I mostly like what would be called Christmas Carols, some of them dating back to the 17th century; some even older. I'm not as fond of the more modern, post WW2 music and I absolutely HATE (sorry if I offend anybody) Burl Ives's Holly Jolly Christmas. One of the local radio stations where I live (and I guess it's not only here) starts playing Christmas music on November 1 and it's the same, I'm guessing, 50 songs over and over and over again. No wonder people say they hate Christmas music. I can't wait to start exploring Swedish music to add to my collection. A few of my absolute favorite songs are Bring A Torch Jeanette Isabella, The Holly and the Ivy, In the Bleak Midwinter and Past Three O'Clock. But I have to say that one of my favorite cds is a jazz piano cd by Beegie Adair. My collection spans at least 500 years!
Thank you for this video. The Music is my favorite part of Christmas. Handel's Messiah, Loreena McKennit's album, "To Drive the Cold Winter Away" is amazing. Everyone must give it a listen It was recorded in Abbeys and Cathedrals. Her song: "Snow", is one of my all time favorite songs! The Medieval Babes are wonderful. George Winston. The Robert Shaw Chorale, Pettula Clark's "The Happiest Christmas", and Peanuts Holiday Album. Oh, and "Song For A Winter's Night", by Gordon Lightfoot.
This is an exquisitely beautiful playlist, my soul felt so at home. The ancient most primal part of me was craving these older hymns. Thank you so much for sharing and put yourself out there so enigmatically! Best wishes to you and all the good things to come this 2020!!! xo
I am so happy you liked the episode/the Spotify list. Some are really nice songs, some are just there since I grew up with them since they bring back memories. :)
I love your style of music! Great pieces on that country list too, we are on the same music length ! Blessings dear friend. I agree too that xmas and music go together! Xx
Thanks hun for your kind comment! And yes I agree. I have some 80/90 music from my Childhood since they remind me of my Childhood, but other than that I love the older vintage music as well as traditional hymns.
I live in Denmark and got family in Sweden, so I’m already fond of anything Swedish, and naturally I enjoy the Swedish Christmas songs as well. What a great idea to make a playlist on Spotify for this season, I may not like all the music you have chosen, but it’s fun to see the ones you prefer. Mange hilsner fra Danmark ✨🎄✨
I totally understand, I am not sure I "like" some of them myself, then I am thinking especially of some newer Swedish songs. But it's just that I grew up with them so they are still "nice songs" somehow, but just for the Holiday :P Other than that I like most of the older songs from Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole etc.
all things green I know exactly what you mean, I really prefer the classic Christmas songs to the new ones. I can get all sentimental listening to Bing Crosby, Sinatra etc. eventhough I’m a child of the late 70’s, this were the songs that got most air time on the radio back then.
Have been listening to your wonderful play list almost non stop. Am particularly enjoying the Swedish hymns/songs. Thank you so much, I feel so Christmassy now! :) Warmest seasonal greetings to you x
Woohoo, I‘ll definitely be checking out your playlist! Thanks for sharing🌟 me too, I prefer the older Christmas songs for sure, especially the old American and also German carols👏 I‘m actually really excited to get to know some Swedish Christmas songs 😍
Will surely listen to the swedish christmas songs you mentioned and the others. About the old and new, surely loves the old ones. Try listening to Silent Night by Mariah and Let it Snow by Justin and youll forget that its Christmas Song. Lol.
I absolutely love the music at the beginning of your advent videos! Reminders me of a lovely music box. Simply beautiful! I also enjoy Nat King Cole & similar, but love The Kinks "Father Christmas" & Pearl Jam "Wish List"!
I will definitely check out your Christmas playlist! I love Christmas songs from the 80's and I love all the songs from the movie Home Alone, almost quilty pleasures...I know!
Hihi, one sure is allowed to have some guilty pleasures ;) My favorites are the "older songs" but I still like to mix them up with some of the songs from my childhood, that are really not "great songs" but they remind me of my childhood Christmases so somehow they are great anyways, if that makes sense :P
Just watched - you can’t top the classics whether it’s the traditional carols (that includes the Swedish ones) or the 1950s 60s’ crooners’ Christmas is pretty traditional ... A few new twists are okay. Church choirs can be amazing too . Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I love your channel and I just subscribed! I too enjoy the older traditional Christmas music. There is a modern song called Mary Did You Know that is very pretty. I wish I would have found your channel during the holidays. I am still going to listen to your Spotify list.
I love the traditional hymns......except for a relatively new song by Mark Schultz - When Love Was Born. There is a beautiful video on RUclips, with that song and clips from the movie, The Nativity Story. It is very beautiful, and moving.
Yes, me too, I love the traditional hymns as well as the older songs. Those are my favorites! I have to look that up, not a song I know about, thanks for the tips!
I Like the Vintage Christmas Songs the Most! Also the classical choir Songs (especially the German ones). But I abolutely dislike every Christmas Song from Michael Bublé xDDD
haha poor Michael :P I actually have no problem with his songs, I even like them. But I do prefer the older "vintage" songs from Nat King Cole, Judy garland and so on. But in my playlists I like to mic it up with songs from my Childhood. Somehow that gets me in the Christmas mood too :)
I like your playlist. It is a wonderful mix of modern and traditionel songs. I also like the christmas songs of Michael Buble. Maybe you'll like them too.
god jul Maria ! here I give you the link to my new video ''christmas in Tallinn'' to enjoy the magical time in this magical town , hope you like it ! ruclips.net/video/tOVnYMHkA-4/видео.html
It looked wonderful Joseph! Actually it looked a little bit like the square in Stockholm - Old town more specifically, where there is a Christmas Market every year! Love it!
One of my favorite Christmas songs is a version of "The Wexford Carol," by American country music singer Alison Krauss and classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma. (It's an odd pairing, I know, but they make gorgeous music together.) The Wexford Carol is actually a very old Irish Christmas carol. You should check out Alison video at ruclips.net/video/yxDZjg_Igoc/видео.html For me, Christmas is not complete without this song.
I like all kinds of Christmas music, especially hymns and traditional songs. My favorite Christmas songs are from albums by David Archuleta, especially "Silent Night", "Ave Maria", and "O Holy Night". Two songs on his recent Christmas album I love are "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and "In the Bleak Midwinter". A particular favorite is one he sang at age 16, "Mary, Did You Know?" It is exquisite. You can listen, if you like: ruclips.net/video/vQxi9UjqfKQ/видео.html He also sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at Christmas in 2012. My favorite from that night is "The Cat and the Mouse Carol". It's sweet and lovely. ruclips.net/video/IgqmyimVlfU/видео.html He also does an unusual, gorgeous version of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" ruclips.net/video/ki4wuMJ1iSo/видео.html If you haven't guessed, I love his voice!! I've listened to several Swedish songs you like, too, and found them quite lovely! I really enjoy all your videos, Maria. They're beautiful, and you are absolutely charming.
Hahaha, yeah, I also like the "older ones" better. They are my favorites. Songs from Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and so on. BUT, since I grew up in the 80ies and 90ies I do like to mic it up with those kind of songs too since they remind me of my Childhood Christmases. And that is also fond memories for me :)
