4.49 for a taco is crazy…….4.99 for a fish taco?! It looks tiny My price complaint is for LA and SoCal overall….but there’s an amazing food truck I go to in LA that’s 3 dollars and 2 dollar tacos on Tuesdays. Tacos Guerros
the rubios fish tacos are decent size. i never buy regular tacos there. the cheaper smaller version is the del taco beer battered fish taco and thats over $3.
Rubios is fine. Real heads know u go on Tuesdays or Fridays for the fish tacos. They have a huge selection of food. I personally love the street corn bowl w grilled shrimp. Better than chipotle for $12. And their beans are the best. Super authentic homemade style
I love Rubios. Honestly I only bought the classic fish tacos and bites here and there of other stuff from what my wife and kids order. $4.99 per taco?!?! I remember when they were about three bucks. What a shame that all these good places are closing. Hopefully they can bounce back.
I remember when they were 99c for their fish tacos. With that said... there's a place called Rancho Viejo in Oceanside that offers 99c fish tacos everyday. You should review them!
That Shrimp burrito looks amazing! The spicy sauce looks good too, but dry rice is...very noticeable. Plus Five guys burgers cost as much as this burrito, so I would probably buy the burrito since it would last longer than a singular burger.
Honestly the best part of rubios are their fresh salsas you can get inside. Adds a lot of flavor to their items too. And on Tuesdays their fish tacos are $2.50 which makes them worth imo
I think there is so much competition out there it affected their business. I enjoyed eating at the Rubios at Cerritos Towne Center. I just looked and it seems like it closed down. Thanks for the memories.
Rubios serves fresh grilled mahi mahi, salmón, shrimp and lots of other surf n turf options. It’s healthier than other fast food joints and similar to chipotle for bowls and burritos. Is it the best, no. Is it bad, no it’s very good for quality Cali-Mexican fresh style food. And their beans are the absolute best I’ve had. Authentic homemade style
Rubio's ain't bad, but out of all the places in SoCal for Mexican food taco shops, Taco Bell, and even Chipotle are much better options at the end of the day
@Madmehican Def not cheaper, but was always the cheaper option. Although like you've said, even Taco Bell doesn't have that going for it anymore either
Been driving past it for years however one day a coworker took me in and I been going ever since. If there isn't a local Mexican spot that specializes in seafood, Rubio's is my go to.
rubios always comes out room temp or cold for me, quit going there because of that. they did have a nice deal for a free plate on your birthday that you used to be able to re-print and use at multiple locations for free food which was nice tbh but they fixed it
If your around the San Diego area try el Pueblo connected to a gas station off of Birmingham exit near encinitas. They have the cheapest fish tacos around (I think around 1.50 each) and even though it’s expensive their California burrito with guac is my favorite.
I don't think that there was ever any hate for Rubio's; just mild ambivalence. It never had food that was bad or anything, but it always seemed there was better options available, and I never knew anyone that preferred it. I'm honestly surprised it held on for as long as it did.
I used to go every Tuesday for the discount fish tacos. Then i tried Spike's. Fir 25¢ more per taco, i get grilled fish taco. I think the current price is $2.75 each on Tuesday.
My 1st time eating at rubios was when my 6th grade class went there on a field trip. I don't remember if I liked it or not tho. Last year my friend started giving me food from there because i basically never tried them before. I got their chicken and carne asada items. It was good!! I'm sad to see them go.
I had Rubio's right before they closed down and i hadn't been there in years. It was excellent and fresh tasting. I got a chicken, shrimp and fish taco,. Im sad they closed the location near me.😮
You should try a fast food chain called Slim Chickens. It has things like chicken sandwiches, wings, sides, and tenders. I dont know if you have one near you or not
Please go to tacos Los guichos on slauson and try the asada burritos, Al pastor tacos and torta cubanos with the grilled onions and habanero salsa on the side. You absolutely need to go here, I’ve been going since I was a kid 😭
Just had number 5 on Yelp ramen shop in california Hajime which was loaded with toppings for $15. (Justified if you ever in Santa Clara in nor cal) Number 1 is Susuru Ramen Bar on Hollywood Blvd. was going to get in July but any chance you’d be willing to do your review first? 😅
I used to go to Rubio’s like once a week when I was a kid in California. It was next to a GameStop and I’d always get Rubio’s before heading to GS. The location closed after I moved away 😢
I do like Rubio's fish tacos a lot, and their Lobster burrito is straight fire when they have it. It's similar to the shrimp burrito, but LOBSTER!! I will say with those prices, definitely go through the app, or go on Tuesdays if you want fish tacos.
At this point people are just following the masses. The hate is just a Domino effect. People are scared to be the odd one out. I've been there and that place is pretty good.

I gotta admit I actually like Rubio’s for a chain Mexican place. And honestly their prices compared to shtty fast food you’re getting much better quality. I can easily spend $20 at Taco Bell or McDonald’s these days. For another couple bucks I can get actual food at Rubios.
Go to Oscars or Fish Guts in SD to do the comparison. Fish Guts is 10 dollars for 2 tacos so basically same price as Rubios. Rubios isnt terrible but it cant compete in SD or LA. It should close down there and setup shop somewhere with mediocre fish taco options like AZ / TX
I used to have a Rubio at the Santa Rosa plaza that I used to go to a lot but it closed down and I would go to this Rubios that was a little far from me and I think that one closed too
the fish tacos are $2 on taco tuesday which is a steal considering how big they are. If you collect points or look out for coupons they're pretty legit. My fav is the california steak burrito.
@@bluemo7253 my location for some reason let the oil seep into the batter so it's super oily every time, but it's still one of the best beer battered fish in orange county I've had, and I've tried plenty mom and pop shops all over the county.
Bankruptcy does not exactly mean they’re going out of business. I think they’re trying to get rid of some of their debt and close some locations (not all).
I think it is because they are in the middle. Like if you just want a lot more food for cheap, it wont taste as good but you can go cheaper. Or you could go a bit more expensive and get really good stuff. It doesn't fill the niche, because you get decent food at a middling price, and everyone either wants super high quality, or just want to stuff their face. At least that is my theory.
Only went on Taco Tuesdays, price points were too high, and fish quality has dropped. Burritos were decent, but for the same price you get way more at Chipotle. I believe every Rubio's that I've been to has closed.
I think the hate is unjustified. However I do understand when people complain about the prices. Almost $5 for a taco that’s like bread you can buy at the grocery store that will last more than one serving.
Yeah Chipotle killed these guys but they were popular in the 00s. The ones near an actual coast were always legit
But they were popular for fish tacos and Chipotle doesn't have seafood. I think they just got too expensive.
@@J7pat7many people I knew just ordered the chicken tacos and salads
They were always packed with sports teams and people from like church groups and paintball and stuff
Damn that sucks
Chipotle itself is rapidly dying too
When i moved to SoCal in the early 90s, Rubio's had a summer special...$1 fish taco and $1 Corona. I went every night after work.
Filing for bankruptcy is not justified😂
U remember when they were called Rubio's Baja Grill?
It was good in the late 80's through 90's
Yeah! That was when I got hooked on them, but I haven’t gone back very much in the past 10 years. They started a hard decline when they rebranded.
Yes I lived in mission Viejo and worked there in 99
Yuppp. I used to love the one in Pasadena at paseo Colorado back in the day 🌯
I miss the fish tanks

I remember when I regularly went to Rubios growing up. I personally loved their shrimp burritos, that's the only reason why I kept going.
Man this place was the spot back in the day. The shrimp and fish tacos were next level. Also I'M SO GLAD U RETIRED THE SHRIMP BURRITOS.

$5 for a taco? I'll wait for Taco Tuesday and get 2 tacos for same price and still get change.
Rubio's needs to make a comeback with the way Chipotle has been dropping off lately
Rubio's is solid and has a great shrimp burrito. The shrimp burrito was a staple for a year or two back in 2018-19.
