Adam LoDolce from Viewership.com talks with Neil Patel about building an SEO agency.
How do I start my own SEO agency?
First, you have to believe in yourself.
The second thing you need to do to build your own SEO agency is to find out who's doing a ton of ads on Google AdWords, using SEMrush, and it will tell you how much money they're spending on ads each month.
That'll give you an idea of how much money a company has.
If they spend $500,000 a month or $1 million, or $200,000, there's a good chance they could pay you for SEO.
You don't want to go after the ones who spend a half a million or a million a month because those guys are big organizations.
You want to go after the ones who are spending 20, 30 grand a month.
Now that you've figured out who to go after, the third step is to start your own SEO agency is emailing these companies.
Another strategy is to use Crunchbase.
They list out all the companies that are recently funded, their valuations, how much money they raise.
When these companies raise $4 or $5 million, and you hit them and their investors up, tell them what they are doing wrong and how you can help solve the problem.
Investors never want to hear that a company they just funded is messing up.
So you know they're going to forward the email over.
The investor's not gonna spend any time or energy solving the problem, but they're going to be sure the problem is addressed.
The investor will go straight to the person who's running the company.
Don't hold anything back when you send these emails.
If these companies have $5 million, they're not going to take the time to learn things on their own, they're going to pay the person who just outlined their problems to fix them.
You want to charge five grand a month for someone who raised $50 million or $5 million?
They don't care; it's a drop in the bucket.
The genius part about this is you didn't go for the marketing director or even the CEO of the company; you went to the people who were funding those people.
So it's guaranteed money.
And if you do well for those investors, they're gonna tell all their portfolio companies "Hey, this guy did this for one of my investments. "You should hire him for your business, too." And that's a great way to get clients.
There you have it, that is how to start your own SEO agency.

As much as Inbound Marketing methods are great and highly beneficial long-term, i personally adore Outbound Marketing strategies, as you have greater control. In addition, it builds your tenacity, as an Entrepreneur...as you will get plenty of No's. However, on the other end of the spectrum you also develop a greater understanding of your target market, which can only benefit your business. Following on from this video, please could you advise on the best way to set fees (or do a another video perhaps)? I personally don't think backlinks are a 'major' ranking factor for local businesses. Could you please share your thoughts on this? And, what do you feel is most important for local businesses? My company excels in local SEO, specifically for our niche of lawn and landscape companies. I personally believe getting all the basic technical SEO correct is very important along with having a good-looking, easy to navigate website that makes it very clear what they do and who they serve. Then schema markup, reviews (specifically Google reviews), getting the Google My Business fully populated and remaining active on it(posting and review fetching), and citation building. And, if they are willing to blog on specific topics of interest to their potential clients, they will crush their competition.

Practice is the best teacher. Set up a practice blog and try different strategies. Get active on social media and with email marketing, too. As you gain experience, you can apply it to work with clients.

That just depends on what your services are and where your specialties lie. Do some research to figure out the numbers, so you can makes sure you're receiving ROI.

Thanks for great video Neil. However, I have a question. Digital marketing was far easy if you knew the tricks decade ago. So, someone can confidently commit to ranking high in a very short period of time for given keywords. With all due respect to your talent and skill, I think the lesser competition and shortcuts in digital marketing would have also helped you to succeed in digital marketing space. However, you know how competitive the market is in these days and the kind of high-end algorithms from Google makes it more though to see the results and success in short period of time. So, it would be extremely difficult to give a commitment to a customer about free traffic that can match to AdWords traffic for a new digital marketing agency. I this new era, what is your suggestion and guidance for a new entrepreneur who wants to start his/her agency?
Focus on what you are passionate about and have a laser focus on delivering results in that specific space/area. Don't try and cover too many things.

How did you believe in yourself enough at 16 yrs old, when you were inexperienced to go forward? Because experience definitely gives a lot of confidence to work with. Starting a new career path independently is scary.
I'm not worried about myself once I know more via experience. Plus I work my ass off, deal well with people and have integrity. Experience plays a big role in my confidence to talk to business.

Love your information. Very good stuff. I have a question about eCommerce site. I do everything for S.E.O For my online store. From social media, video, and backlinks etc..... Maybe you should make a video on building traffic to an online store. I upload new items once in a while. I have a good list of keywords I try to use in the title, description and keyword section. Everything i learn about s.e.o I try to apply it to my store. I also write blog post that link to my stores. I have a list of competitors back links. And will be using the info you talk about to build more quality links

I would start with two simultaneous campaigns to A/B test. Based on the results, you can expand from there. Good luck!

Does SEO agencies hire content writers and make them write on famous websites like washington post, yourstory and get backlinks from the articles they write?
Some people do that, yes. Others, like me, write their own content. It all depends on the individual agency or entrepreneur.
We get customers for website needs but their prices is too low, how can I convert them to decent amount?

I just wanted to know that is the hosting company has anything to do with ranking and the Wix website are really very easy to setup but they are very slow and the mobile pages aren't that well optimized. So should I go with wix or get a wordpress blog with own domain and a separate hosting.

kalpana akula You can choose any niche. For example if you're good in Internet marketing, help people through blogging by writing a unique content. Choose right keywords by spending time on google keyword planner or other suggested tools. Use paid promotion like AdWords, facebook boost if you can spend few bucks daily or weekly or monthly on your posts. Use google webmaster for seos, write atleast one content in a week. Hope it helps.

So how do you know you know enough to get clients results? I know about using long-form content with numbers in the header and keywords that people are searching for, and using pictures and video and getting backlinks from sites linking to competitors sites, and linking out to authority sites that are useful to my audience and other ways to increase search engine rankings, but I don't know if I definitively know enough to offer what I can do as a service.

I went to school for IT. I somehow got a medical office. They wanted more social media manager that IT. I helped set up website and did some self taught seo stuff and have them on first page of google and bing. I need two more accounts to update portfolio. I think doing this will help me get IT jobs as I have just finished class. Any help or advice l?
Just go for it. Find similar companies to the first one you helped and offer yourself as a consultant showing the first job as a case study.

This work great in USA but India they end up to be sue me or fired me before hire me. Biggest hurdle for us is to raise from crowd and get acknowledging by clients. I think personal relationship is most important.
