16:09 “I like your use of the word restrained.” Pure finesse. By restrained you mean “comfortable” for you to receive & understand. The way Baldwin carried himself in these exchanges despite the ignorance of his opposition.

Brilliant. He is speaking about raising human consciousness. Sadly though it seems like more people look outside of themselves than ever work on knowing the truth inside of themselves and taking responsibility. Baldwin was inspiring and a great genius. I wish I had met him. Brilliant man.

It feels impossible to write a comment on this video, and any other James Baldwin topical video for that matter, because you know - unless you’re a writer on par with James Baldwin - that you will never be able to or will struggle to write a comment that feels relevant and will remain timelessly elegant in conveying your true emotions and opinions on such a person like James Baldwin.
Note: I could listen and read James Baldwin, looking for quotations, forever. The greater joy however is finding the key to understanding the quotes and why you like them.

Every time I listen to James Baldwin my core resonates. Such a courageous and gifted man. Listening to this today I realize we in America are in the gauntlet side by side-black, brown, and white-and we endure or perish together. We are a part of each other’s history, and though we have been lied to and pitted against each other we are in truth beloved. I am finally studying our history-not “black history”, America’s history, my history. And then do my best to act, like James did.

"i knew by the age of 5 that life was going to be hard and i would eventually die (old age hopefully)" So darn true. this is how we raise our little ones. But we also encourage for them to change the game collectively. This is what (in my opinion) has been a shift in thinking among the community

This radio interview of James Baldwin by Elsa Knight Thompson and John Leonard took place in San Francisco on May 7, 1963. The Norman Podhoretz essay in Commentary that Leonard mentions is called "My Negro Problem -- and Ours." It appeared in February 1963 and can be read online.

This is 2918 and nothing have really changed here in America. The characters are changed but the situation we find ourselves in has not changed. I think James said it best when in the interview he stated " changing the moral climate, finding a connection, having white people know what they hate and know that it is not us. These points in the interview said a lot about what is going on in our country at the present. We have talked for 400 years, we have seen and heard issues for 400 years. I am 67 years of age, and James is gone, and one day I will be gone too. I truly believe that not will change. Sad, but true.

Mr. James Baldwin clearly exposes fear. We have to modify one's expectations for the other to love others.

James Baldwin was romantically in love with Norman Mailer, and that is the reason why he is apprehensive about discussing Mailer.
