Howdy from Dallas, Texas. I am Ray, the owner of Hike-ALOT and also co-owner of the Texas Survival School. I am a certified hiking guide with the American Hiking Guide Association & Northeast Mountain Guides, wilderness survival instructor with Texas Survival School, Red Cross instructor for Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid, plus Stop The Bleed instructor with up to date credentials in Leave No Trace, Swift Water Awareness, Outdoor Ethics / Stewardship, and am a certified Bear Safety Resource.
The Hike-ALOT school itself was born as an avenue to give students from the wilderness survival school and my frequent day hiking companions, make the jump from day hiking to overnight backpacking. The name itself is a reference to where our students come from - Arkansas(A), Louisiana(L), Oklahoma(O), and Texas(T). That is why it is “ALOT” instead of “a lot”.

I really like that one tigris mesh tent, especially here in the south. And the 2-person is the way to go!

It’s worked quite well so far. Only had it about a year so have only used it about a half dozen times but so far so good.

Ive been eyeing this to use with my DD tarp on my AT thru hike. I got the Lanshan 2 but it failed me the first night in it. Plus way more fiddly to put up. Thanks for the video

I’ve looked at the Lanshan a couple of times but haven’t pulled the trigger on it. How did it fail?

@Hike-ALOT I got the nonpro version from Meir and 5 minutes into a heavy rain the water was collecting on the inner mesh. People seem to love it all over the web. Maybe I should have gotten the 3F UL brand. I had just bought a couple pairs of Meir hiking pants which I LOVED, so thought I could expect the same quality.

A nice, informative video. What are the poles you used with this setup?

Glad you found it useful and thanks for checking it out. These are the exact poles I’m using but they appear to be out of stock. I know there are several companies out there that make a similar set up.

For colder weather , simply get a Warbonnet Superfly Tarp ( which has enclosers ) ...now you have a winter tent . Total weight = 2.42508 pounds tent / 18/oz Tarp + 3.55008 pounds

As soon as it cools off I typically just use a 10x10 tarp and a strip of tyvek. I like the openness of it and it gets me in nice and light.
