Both look insanely good. But considering how harder it is to create those levels of visuals in a huge, seamless open world, compared to linear games with different sections of maps, RDR2 is clearly the superior one.
R* has always been on the cutting edge graphics wise, and the game was made by 2,000 people over 7 years. While a lot of the stuff it uses has become mainstream like subsurface scattering which it uses for light shining through ears, nose and hands of PEDs it also has an insane amount of tessellation which is still somewhat experimental and is usually very taxing on machines as well as lowering performance, but not only did they make it work but it’s everywhere in the game. Those snow physics? Tessellation. Your footsteps dragging through Valentine? Tessellation. Falling in mud and leaving behind an imprint? Tessellation. Usually those things are handled by textures, 3D objects or aren’t even addressed but it’s everywhere in RDR2, and it’s well optimized. Not to mention everything else and the size of its world it’s insane. It’s truly what Next-Gen games should be or strive to be, but they still haven’t.
Clearly two amazing games and two of my all-time favorites. Just goes to show you how much work and detail was put into RDR2 that it has the overall edge even against a remade Naughty Dog game.
It's interesting how the mechanics in each one serves purpose to the story. Arthur not being able to smash windows in the same way as Joel makes sense bc he doesnt have to. Joel's horse not having a reaction or being able to be hurt by him, makes sense considering that's the only horse hes got around, while with Arthur, the cowboy/outlaw life requires them to have a good relationship tothe horse and its part of the game mechanics to take care of yours. Both incredibly stunning games with mechanics that fit their purpose as an open world and linear story game!

I think TLOU 1 Remake is the toughest comparison for RDR 2. But i think RDR 2 has done the best considering its an openworld game came out on 2018. Things i found TLOU 1 Remake did better: -Glass physics - Combat (debateable) - Graphics ( the graphics literally making me crazy) -Vegetation - Better facial texture and facial expression (it is perfect, the best i have ever seen) Did i miss something? Things i found RDR 2 did better: -The horse behavior -Water physique and fire logic - The amazing detail in rdr 2 (there is a lot of them that making me go insane, im going to show you an example, hair and facial hair will grow overtime, and many that i cannot show it all.) - Combat (debateable) - and many other features rdr 2 offers like fishing, hunting, robbing(but i dont think this would count in this comparison, I am sorry people 👍🏼) And yeah, did i miss something? Both of these game have their respective advantages and disadvantages. I play red dead 2 and i also play last of us, and i love both games.
Good analysis. I think TLOU wins, because it has a better and more original storyline and also better missions design. RDR 2 was a enjoyable experience, but I felt that the storyline was kind of dull. Also, TLOU factions (multiplayer) is one my favourite multiplayer experiences ever.
Its just like GTA 5 which is giving competition to todays games as well... rockstar has made a few open world and unique games which are making history even til now..🙂😘
This comparison is very surface level. For example, in the bow comparison, you didn't show that different arrow types in RDR2 act differently, the small game arrow (Which has a blunt shotgun casing as its tip), bounces off every surface, including wood. Another example, the takedown animations in RDR2 are amazing, you just don't know how to use them, every weapon type has multiple animations, with revolver, you can simply hit a guy, you can grab him and shoot him in the head or hit him after, you can tackle him to the ground and hit him or shoot him (Also, animations are varied depending if you grab a guy from the front or back). In different environments, you can drown a guy, throw him off a ledge, throw him through the window, knock him out, choke him out, and different melee weapons such as knifes and axes have different takedown animations as well. Overall, shitty comparison video made for views since TLOU1 just came out.
I see them RUclips videos hyping the last of us remaster 2.0, the criminal naughty dog advertise as a "remake". There's actually nothing new aside graphics and facial expressions. It's no competition for red dead redemption 2 at all in every aspect.
You do realize that wouldn’t be fair to TLOU remake because it doesn’t have or need details like arrow size so comparing that is frivolous and only serves to make RDR2 look better creating a bias comparison video.
@@stillvillian Maybe because it is not a real REMAKE, it's a REMASTER of a REMASTERED version of TLoU. RESIDENT EVIL 2 (2019) is a REAL REMAKE of RESIDENT EVIL 2 (1998).

Personally i think Tlou just looks better overall, but im not gonna deny RDR2 IS CRAZY DETAILED AND IMPRESSIVE. So they definitely compete with each other. Then again i think we should also take in the consideration that they are two completely differently games going for completely didn’t feels and themes. @@Shutupsitdownrelax well I’m not gonna say that it’s obvious, but the graphics are much better than RDR2. Character models, textures, lighting, etc are all noticeably better. @@Gryphondork.the textures are very high resolution in both games lighting is much better on rdr2 the character models are a bit better on tlou and about the animations rdr2 is a game focused more on realism that's why some of the animations like running, swimming etc might look a bit off when you compare it to non realistic ones like tlou not to mention rdr2 is a MUCH bigger game than tlou since it is open world whereas tlou is linear hence it also has much more going on and they still managed to keep it on par with games released in 2022 4 years after it was released
@@Shutupsitdownrelax I’m not saying that TLOUp1 is better then RDR2. Im just implying that TLOUp1 has better graphics. There are a lot of things that RDR2 does better than TLOUp1 when it comes to the amount of detail that RDR2 has, but you can’t honestly say that RDR2 is focused more on realism and say it just looks off when the swimming and running animations are clearly and obviously not as realistic then TLOUp1. I know its just your opinion, but it’s pretty obvious you’re just sugarcoating things that the last of us does better and not actually looking at it critically or unbiased. How can you say that RDR2 focuses more on realism if the animations aren’t as good as a game that ALSO FOCUES on realism just as much if not more than RDR2. All things considered though, thats just my opinion.
Rockstar and Naughty Dog are both incredible developers but Rockstar is just insane when it comes to their open world in Red Dead 2. Rockstar will always be one of my favorite developers.
TLOU2P1 might win on basic object and character lighting (I mean it IS PS5 graphics), but clearly RDR2 environmental physics win HANDS DOWN in every way shown here. In fact I never would have guessed that had you not shown a side by side comparison. I can only imaging RDR2 revamped for PS5!!

RDR2 for the win.

In general I like more lighting, contrast, brightness and Bloom in tlou, they are much more comfortable to the eye, although keep in mind that it is not the same to compare a game from 2010 to 2015 than a game from 2018 to 2022, the graphic difference will be less and less noticeable.
Plus RDR2 is very moddable in terms of it's visual presentation so you could easily adjust all those aspects with various mods and reshade presets (on PC of course).
I really appreciate how gamers, who have commented on this video, like exploring a huge map of a beautiful game like RDR2, despite the game having zero gameplay and a shallow story. RDR2 looks amazing and I like hunting in it a lot.

If only I can experience rdr2 for the first time again. Rdr2 is amazing. I play it more than any games I own.
I think TLOU 1 Remake is the toughest comparison for RDR 2. But i think RDR 2 has done the best considering its an openworld game came out on 2018.
Things i found TLOU 1 Remake did better:
-Glass physics
- Combat (debateable)
- Graphics ( the graphics literally making me crazy)
-Vegetation
- Better facial texture and facial expression (it is perfect, the best i have ever seen)
Did i miss something?
Things i found RDR 2 did better:
-The horse behavior
-Water physique and fire logic
- The amazing detail in rdr 2 (there is a lot of them that making me go insane, im going to show you an example, hair and facial hair will grow overtime, and many that i cannot show it all.)
- Combat (debateable)
- and many other features rdr 2 offers like fishing, hunting, robbing(but i dont think this would count in this comparison, I am sorry people 👍🏼)
And yeah, did i miss something?
Both of these game have their respective advantages and disadvantages. I play red dead 2 and i also play last of us, and i love both games.
I think a Ps5 enhanced version of Rdr2 might have better texture quality compared to ps4. Sad thing it hasn't been released yet.
Good analysis. I think TLOU wins, because it has a better and more original storyline and also better missions design. RDR 2 was a enjoyable experience, but I felt that the storyline was kind of dull. Also, TLOU factions (multiplayer) is one my favourite multiplayer experiences ever.

@@Herandro_just_Herandro True. Other developers should try to beat red dead redemption 2

There are so many cool details in RDR2 that I can forgive the bedroom mirror for not getting damaged if one shoots it; that was a small oversight on Rockstar though
It's silly to compare the two because The Last of Us was built for storytelling and Red Dead Redemtion 2 has an open world to explore. It is obvious that in an open world with good elaboration, even small details are important.
