Join acclaimed art historian and critic Hal Foster for a conversation about the life and work of legendary sculptor Richard Serra, whose often massive, site-specific steel structures have transformed the art form. Foster’s latest book, Conversations about Sculpture, is drawn from nearly two decades of conversations with Serra. It offers revelations into his prolific six-decade career, the ideas that have informed his groundbreaking practice and his sources of inspiration, from Donatello and Brancusi to Japanese gardens and Machu Picchu. Gain insight into one of our most brilliant and influential artists and learn what situates Serra in the history of sculpture across time and culture. Foster is joined in conversation by SFMOMA’s Gary Garrels.
