Its less of a metaphor and more of a catalyst. While it isn't the only thing that caused Hindley's Distortion, it is the thing his mind clings to in his moment of weakness, the thing that represents his years of envy of Heathcliff for stealing his entire life. But as he didnt lose his humanity along the way, envy didnt stain his distortion like it did for Kromer or Dongrang. With envy, you have to have an in-tact sense of self in order to know what someone else has that you dont

The whole thing with Hindley and Envy peccatula as a whole is that it's EXTREMELY hard to sin distort towards envy, as you must have an idea of yourself to know what you dont have compared to someone else. that is what it MEANS to be envious. the exception to that is what happened to Heathcliff, becoming envious of humanity and seeing himself as lesser than a beast, therefore losing sight of his humanity. Kromer, in attempting to achieve a higher form of humanity, lost sight of the humanity she currently had, causing her distortion to be stained with Lust, which is commonly associated with the human body. Dongrang, in realizing that his achievements weren't his own but still wishing to get more empty achievements no matter if they weren't his anymore causes him to lose sight of himself, distorting himself with Gluttony staining it. Hindley, very specifically, is not losing his humanity, and as such he isn't stained by any peccatula or sin. you can very quickly tell this because Hindley's eyes are completely white. one thing consistant across all Peccatula, including the Sin Distortions, is their irises change to be the color of their sin. I find it important to note that Cathy's health first deteriorated after staying out all night in a storm looking for Heathcliff when he first left, but the second big hit to her health was when, in a rage at Heathcliff and Linton arguing without listening to her (among other things), she shuts herself off in her room and doesn't eat for a few days. It's important to me that she is the principal cause of her own death, and that in the book she uses it to guilt both Linton and Heathcliff. it's where the big quote comes from!! I really really like Cathy in the book, she really was a foundational girlboss lmao

So I almost spoiled myself on this twist in the funniest way - Matt's voice actor kept reminding me of someone, and not in the obvious sense. The way he talks specifically while he's impersonating Matt made me sure they already used the same VA in Ruina, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Luckily, I did not google his VA and my brain failed to make the connection, because - well, he talks almost exactly the same as Nemo does lmao. If I had made the connection and thought "hey, he sounds quite a bit like Nemo - wait a second?", I think I would've spoiled myself way earlier. For those who don't know, Nemo and Heath are the same VA.
On how heathcliff survived those beatings: It's confirmed in Leviathan than augments can be turned on and off, which makes a lot of sense for normal life considering people like roland or Kali would just shatter every cup they try to hold etc

In a sense, they're both weapon masters so it's fair to assume they're on par if one thinks they are. You can't exactly do the same for other colors. Red Mist and Vergilious are EGO users and only characters with top tier levels of raw power (or broken hacks that counter them) can even keep up with them. Argalia is a schemer and has the leadership skills to form and lead an entire syndicate of distortions. Purple Grandma is a skilled swordsman with a wealth of intelligence to back up her unorthodox power. It's hard to compare someone to a color unless you show a character fighting against them (Binah) or alongside them (Roland).
Note, "Matt", dead rabbit mersault, and LCB Heathcliff all use the exact same fighting style, which well makes sense as the dead rabbits are the one's who taught Heathcliff how to fight. Only difference is that since Heathcliffs bat is smooth and not spikey so he inflicts tremor instead of rupture
2 things -When trying to ex Hindley's fight read the log -Heath not only doesn't say anything when using egos, if you pay attention, he sometimes sounds like hes gasping for air when he attacks

Hindley is probably just hung up on that specific night and that specific violin because he feels like that was the beginning of him being shunned and replaced by Heathcliff in his own home.
Yet the chance of him being a absent person and neglecting Hindley completely after Heathcliff arrival is equally high, he favored Heath and even punished Hindley, yet Hindley was not scared of sending Heath to sleep on the barn with bruises and starved. Saaaame. Took me quite a while to beat him until I decided to spare his mooks so he got fewer slots to work with until I beat him. Almost every other fight relies on some annoying defensive skill which you can easily negate.

In Britain, people typically attend boarding schools when they're kids but if here they meant something more like university then it is possible. I don't know if boarding school is still a thing here anymore, I certainly didn't go to one. But it was definitely around in the past, and this wing is definitely going for an old timey British vibe.
I do wonder why Hindley's father adopted Heathcliff, I doubt someone who beats his own kid would care much for one in the street. Unless, he really hated Hindley that much.
First of all, I don't think Mr. Earnshaw didn't care about or love Hindley. I think Hindley just had a inferiority complex and Heathcliff constantly slammed on it because it was the only way he could fight back, culminating in it intensifying over the years. The Ryoshu and Ishmael Butler IDs give some insight into this with their uptie stories. SPOILERS So, Ishamel's Uptie story introduces the concept of rich families taking in poorer people in order to instill a sense of gratitude and loyalty, before enlisting them as a butlers. It is possible that this is what Mr Earnshaw was attempting to do with Heathcliff. Ryoshu's Uptie Story reinforces this by noting that Ryoshu trained Heathcliff in that Mirror World, implying that Heathcliff could have become a Butler of Wuthering Heights/the Earnshaw Family if he hadn't run away.
There was a theory about the original book, that Heathcliff is actually Earnshaw's illegitimate son, but because he couldn't reveal it and didn't want to abandon a child, he took Heathcliff in instead... Of course, the problem with this theory is that it makes Heathcliff and Catherine siblings, so...
Okay but imagine, Instead of distorting into a violin, he manifested ego, and his ego was a violin? Project moon missed the peakest of character we could have ever ask for, and symbolic that he has finally decided to love himself more so than anyone else. But nah he doesn't deserve ego, he already had to much of it.

It's kinda funny you stopped there. When a main story update come, it is released in 3 parts over 3 weeks, and that was where the second week's cliffhanger left us. On those 7 days, everyone was going bananas over what was gonna happen next.
GOD This Canto is such ABSOLUTE PEAK, and this was only the end of Part 2! IT GETS EVEN MORE PEAK! I am beyond excited to watch you experience what comes next, Manager Esquire! 44:13 Well from what we know M Corp handles that, we did learn in this Canto that they run Rehab Centers and their Singularity basically gives you a mind shield and from what i remember it can also "cleanse" the mind i think. (It's the "Moonstones" that the Liu where talking about in Ruina btw) 1:03:18 It does actually! And it's also actually a valid strategy to Corrode at -45 intentionally to avoid Stagger in Solo runs! Also an incredibly cool detail about the "Matt" fight: The skills of the "Dead Rabbits Boss" are actually Base LCB Heathcliff's skills, an Envy Skill named "Bat Bash", a Wrath Skill Named "Smackdown", an Envy Counter, and a Skill 3 named "Upheaval" though it's a Gloom skill on "Dead Rabbits Boss" instead of Lust like on our Base Heath, so you can actually predict the reveal if you recognize the skills which is just SO COOL. 1:08:50 Wow two correct predictions in a row! Impressive Manager Esquire! 1:31:48 He actually doesn't talk At All, none of his IDs say even a single line when attacking etc which is SUCH a cool detail. 1:36:00 He was actually struck by the purple lighting, that's why he exploded. Also, my interpretation of Mirror Heathcliff is that he's Book Heathcliff, because our Heath has from the beginning of the game been way more chill than the Heath from the original book and with all the character development he's had he's very much a different person than Heathcliff was in the original book, so Mirror Heath is the *Actual* Heathcliff, the way he was *Supposed* to be but wasn't, because he became better, he even recites a few lines directly from the book and the "flashback" when our Heathcliff [REDACTED] is from what i know a very close recreation of that scene in the original book. This is SO GOD DAMN COOL and shows why these literature nerds at PM are some of my favorite writers ever, just SO PEAK!
against these bosses with fixed sanity type, its fun to remember that as long as they're at -40 sanity or more and have echos, they have a 100% chance to roll tails, it literally can't go wrong. On another note, I know it would OBLITERATE your theming of the team, but you should remove the non-sinking maids from the team. They are killing your sinking count to the point where you can't even lower any boss' SP to any meaningful degree. Potential man is already bad enough for sinking on his own, but you don't really have a choice in the matter with him. Rime Shank would also greatly benefit your team. Have you ever wanted to inflict 80 sinking on a single hit with no pre-requisites? That's what rime shank does.

So I almost spoiled myself on this twist in the funniest way - Matt's voice actor kept reminding me of someone, and not in the obvious sense.
The way he talks specifically while he's impersonating Matt made me sure they already used the same VA in Ruina, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Luckily, I did not google his VA and my brain failed to make the connection, because - well, he talks almost exactly the same as Nemo does lmao.
If I had made the connection and thought "hey, he sounds quite a bit like Nemo - wait a second?", I think I would've spoiled myself way earlier. For those who don't know, Nemo and Heath are the same VA.
On how heathcliff survived those beatings:
It's confirmed in Leviathan than augments can be turned on and off, which makes a lot of sense for normal life considering people like roland or Kali would just shatter every cup they try to hold etc
Did roland even have augmentations? I know the library buffed him up a bit but i don't know if the story ever says if he has them or not.

Finn is a grade 9 fixer and the story specifically points out how he's struggling to get to a higher grade because he has no augmentations. It's not a setting where humans are magically stronger by just training like in most anime, everyone who's a combatant has some form of augmentations

@@grimmreaper6354 I mean, it took two of them to beat Blood Red Night at her prime before when she was a Star originally and Roland was so skilled with any weapon he got a hold of in Angelica's gloves that no one questions him not being the Black Silence when he uses his wife's gloves. In a sense, they're both weapon masters so it's fair to assume they're on par if one thinks they are. You can't exactly do the same for other colors. Red Mist and Vergilious are EGO users and only characters with top tier levels of raw power (or broken hacks that counter them) can even keep up with them. Argalia is a schemer and has the leadership skills to form and lead an entire syndicate of distortions. Purple Grandma is a skilled swordsman with a wealth of intelligence to back up her unorthodox power. It's hard to compare someone to a color unless you show a character fighting against them (Binah) or alongside them (Roland).
Note, "Matt", dead rabbit mersault, and LCB Heathcliff all use the exact same fighting style, which well makes sense as the dead rabbits are the one's who taught Heathcliff how to fight.
Only difference is that since Heathcliffs bat is smooth and not spikey so he inflicts tremor instead of rupture

Nothing can accurately describe the energy in the community while waiting a week for the update that would continue the story after the last stage in this episode.
12:15 I’m just gonna put this out there, The chances are very high that his Father Mr Earnshaw actually bought the Violin for him the next time he went out too. Hindley is probably just hung up on that specific night and that specific violin because he feels like that was the beginning of him being shunned and replaced by Heathcliff in his own home.
Yet the chance of him being a absent person and neglecting Hindley completely after Heathcliff arrival is equally high, he favored Heath and even punished Hindley, yet Hindley was not scared of sending Heath to sleep on the barn with bruises and starved. Being honest, he sounds like a really bad Dad.

Something Interesting Ive noticed recently while playing the game is that in Ryoshu's Forest for the Flames Ego she has several fingers of different design looking through the window of her cell. and shes clutching her blade in a way that says shes on guard. Just thought it would be fun to share.

Saaaame. Took me quite a while to beat him until I decided to spare his mooks so he got fewer slots to work with until I beat him.
Almost every other fight relies on some annoying defensive skill which you can easily negate.
no joke, hes one of the most scarey things to encounter in the mirror dungeon, he has, routinely without fail, one and doned my sinners almost every time he shows up, forceing a retry of the fight, he hits, OBSCENELY hard for a rather lowish rolling unit,
a perfect showcase of why coins dont actually mean more damage, the right passives and weaknesses mean Owuch that man just splattered half my team with ease
It's because of his spiked bat passive, that thing grants him a bonus 50% pierce damage on his attacks.

In Britain, people typically attend boarding schools when they're kids but if here they meant something more like university then it is possible.
I don't know if boarding school is still a thing here anymore, I certainly didn't go to one. But it was definitely around in the past, and this wing is definitely going for an old timey British vibe.

First of all, I don't think Mr. Earnshaw didn't care about or love Hindley. I think Hindley just had a inferiority complex and Heathcliff constantly slammed on it because it was the only way he could fight back, culminating in it intensifying over the years.
The Ryoshu and Ishmael Butler IDs give some insight into this with their uptie stories.
SPOILERS
So, Ishamel's Uptie story introduces the concept of rich families taking in poorer people in order to instill a sense of gratitude and loyalty, before enlisting them as a butlers. It is possible that this is what Mr Earnshaw was attempting to do with Heathcliff.
Ryoshu's Uptie Story reinforces this by noting that Ryoshu trained Heathcliff in that Mirror World, implying that Heathcliff could have become a Butler of Wuthering Heights/the Earnshaw Family if he hadn't run away.
There was a theory about the original book, that Heathcliff is actually Earnshaw's illegitimate son, but because he couldn't reveal it and didn't want to abandon a child, he took Heathcliff in instead...
Of course, the problem with this theory is that it makes Heathcliff and Catherine siblings, so...
Okay but imagine, Instead of distorting into a violin, he manifested ego, and his ego was a violin? Project moon missed the peakest of character we could have ever ask for, and symbolic that he has finally decided to love himself more so than anyone else. But nah he doesn't deserve ego, he already had to much of it.

A cool detail about Heathcliff's EGO moment is that not only are the numbers going absolutely nuts as he pummels Heathcliff? into dirt... But the very sin affinity of the EGO changes. It's normally Purple for Envy, but it changes to Red for Wrath as Heathcliff completely loses it in his rage.

Also, my interpretation of Mirror Heathcliff is that he's Book Heathcliff, because our Heath has from the beginning of the game been way more chill than the Heath from the original book and with all the character development he's had he's very much a different person than Heathcliff was in the original book, so Mirror Heath is the *Actual* Heathcliff, the way he was *Supposed* to be but wasn't, because he became better, he even recites a few lines directly from the book and the "flashback" when our Heathcliff [REDACTED] is from what i know a very close recreation of that scene in the original book. This is SO GOD DAMN COOL and shows why these literature nerds at PM are some of my favorite writers ever, just SO PEAK!

against these bosses with fixed sanity type, its fun to remember that as long as they're at -40 sanity or more and have echos, they have a 100% chance to roll tails, it literally can't go wrong.
On another note, I know it would OBLITERATE your theming of the team, but you should remove the non-sinking maids from the team.
They are killing your sinking count to the point where you can't even lower any boss' SP to any meaningful degree.
Potential man is already bad enough for sinking on his own, but you don't really have a choice in the matter with him.
Rime Shank would also greatly benefit your team.
Have you ever wanted to inflict 80 sinking on a single hit with no pre-requisites? That's what rime shank does.
