Not even knowing the background, it's always highly suspicious when the partner is not the one reporting a missing spouse.

One thing I've noticed from true crime stories is that women are often times taught that "seeing the best in everyone" is a good quality-- it's not. It's okay to hold people accountable, to demand better and to draw boundaries when people hurt you or you see them being disrespectful to others. If everyone around you is warning you this person is bad news, it's okay to believe them even if you're not seeing that side of them. So many of these cases the victim had this same mindset, often times towards men, and it ends in tragedy.

I respect everything you do so much, not to bash anyone but sometimes it's evident that people make content off of others' sufferings for monetary reasons or don't seem to show honest care or respect. You've done so much like made me realize what my passion was career wise, and have a clear, genuine dedication towards loved ones going thru suffering. Sending lots of love!

My older sister is going through this exact same thing with a guy who's completely and utterly manipulated her emotionally, and financially. She has little girls. She won't listen to my family and she protects him. He tortures her for weekends at a time. I'm so scared that I'm going to see my sister's face on one of these videos one day. I feel like I have no one to turn to for help. The police won't help and the domestic violence hotline told me to leave it be. I don't know what to do.

I find it so disturbing how a person can be manipulated in such a way their actions go against literal instincts. She had her kids taken away, probably threatened with it before it happened, and still his grip was that strong. It’s almost unbelievable, but it happens so often. It should be her natural instinct to both protect her kids and survive herself, but even when it’s right in front of her that this man is so dangerous her kids can’t stay there, she just couldn’t see it herself due the manipulation of this man. It’s frustrating as an outsider because it seems so obvious that her only choice was to leave and report. But I also very well know that it’s never that simple when it comes to abuse. What a tragic story.

Thank you Kendall, for telling Nikki’s story, because it reflects the stories of so many other people whose voices were unjustly taken away, and it brings attention and hopefully inspires action, to an issue that, like many others, is eating away our society from within.

The husbands family is higher up on the reserve, and they won't let them search the rest of the reserve? Sounds to me like thats on purpose. Theres a clear conflict of interest there, If he hid something(like a body) there- that is every reason for them to NEVER open it up. Reminds me of a case that was solved decades later because the owner of the church where the victim was last seen died. He refused to let the police search the building(which was closed and abandoned) the entire time he was alive. But the second he died the police searched, and sure enough... The body of the victim was found on the top floor. I think by then, the suspect was also dead. But that church owner was a clear accomplice and had known the entire time. I strongly feel like the case is similar there. Someone knows what Tyler did, and is covering for him by using the reserves laws to prevent anyone from finding anything.

Everytime I listen to a case involving a spouse or partner being killed by that person, it’s frightening how similar the abuse and actions are to what I (& probably thousands of people) experienced in a past relationship. Each time I hear these cases with prior abuse, stalking, or any violence, it’s like a play by play of exactly what he did to me. Now I just think about how lucky I was to get out with my life. For instance, I was awoken quite a few times by him throwing hot or ice cold water on me and it was always for ridiculous things like I fell asleep before him. It’s just like there’s a handbook out there for how to be a narcissistic, abusive, partner.

You didn't miss anything! We all feel like that. I think a majority of Shasta County feel like the Shasta County Sheriff's are not capable, know how to, have the resources or not smart enough to ask for help from agencies that are capable of handling a case like this. Hopefully Kendall's coverage bring's in someone who has the resources to solve Nikki's disappearance. SCSO handled the disappearance of Tera Smith 1998. I have not met one person who isn't dumbfounded about how SCSO handled (mishandled) her case. There are many many more who have gone missing. The only case they ever solved was Sherri Papini!
