    This and Fran's fling with Nigel almost blew her back to Queens for good. Fran has been in Manhattan for five years and in the Sheffields' townhouse just as long. She should know the rules of the road by now. The dingy act wasn't going to wash as his wife.

    • @jackiebrainy2274
      @jackiebrainy2274 3 года назад +20

      Oh please, yes she made a big mistake here, that's definitely her fault. However her fling with Nigel has nothing to do with Maxwell after all he was not ready to commit AND he slept with another woman a year and half prior to the wedding when She and Max were in a semi-relationship where he wouldn't commit.

    • @lisakelly2121
      @lisakelly2121 3 года назад +5

      If Fran's fling was innocent why didn't she admit it to Maxwell early on? Why did it take Nigel to spill it at the bachelor party one year later to 'fess up? She knew Maxwell would dump her if he found out. Max's fling with Marla Maples was Fran's get out of jail free card and both were wrong for not being straight with other but Fran didn't care if the kids got hurt.

    • @jackiebrainy2274
      @jackiebrainy2274 3 года назад +27

      @@lisakelly2121 Again why did Maxwell not admit his fling either. Instead Marla told Fran same as Nigel telling Maxwell. They were both wrong so you can't blame Fran for that. Also Maxwell was commitment phobic when Nigel came into the picture, Fran wasn't sure Maxwell would ever commit to her which was why she almost left with Nigel.

      No, he wasn’t. He strictly told Fran not to talk about this to anyone and she did it anyways. And the fact that she told her own mother about it just made it worse. I’ve always loved this show, but can someone born from in the 70’s, 80’s, or grew up in the 90’s (I was born in 2001) tell me if marriage was more common between two people even if they weren’t in an official relationship for a while? Cause a running gag on the show were people bringing up Fran working for him for five years and him not proposing while referring to her as “his Nanny”. Nowadays, there are people who have been dating for 5 or so years and haven’t even thought of the idea of marriage yet

    • @Dikdik11
      @Dikdik11 3 года назад +9

      While getting married indeed was more important to more people at least 30 years ago, I think those who comment this way on Fran's and Maxwell's relationship meant it in another way. They probably couldn't imagine two attractive, single adults who have chemistry living for so many years under a roof and not doing anything. Most of them wouldn't consider Fran to be a great nanny and thought Maxwell surely must've employ her for other qualities (or just because of her looks) in the first place. But they'd have to keep their relationship secret for the sake of the kids or Maxwell's carrier because it would've been frowned upon if he dated his employee from a lower class. I guess that's why everybody thought they're having a secret relationship.

    • @musicaltheatergeek79
      @musicaltheatergeek79 3 года назад +2

      Fran and Max didn't date for 5 years. It was strictly a professional relationship the first four years/seasons though they often flirted with each other. But it is always risky for a male employer to get together with his female employee, especially if she's the caretaker of his children.

The same thing with Niles and C.C. They got married relatively quick. I’ve wondered if it is different for people who are older, but with Fran I guess it is more self explanatory as she often correlated her age to her not being married as a negative
