    Just about finished the first level of pimsleur eastern arabic - thanks for the good overview and cool to hear the story of how pimsleur started!

      Have you used anything you’ve learned with any native speakers or in media consumption? I saw that Eastern Arabic was recorded in 2003 so I was unsure if would be super helpful if normal/slang speech has changed in the last 20 years

    I did undergraduate lessons in msa, years ago and started pimsleur. I think this course is excellent in terms of quickly getting you speaking

    I’ve heard MSA is not spoken Arabic. It’s just official and written Arabic. Is that correct? Do you need to do Egyptian or Eastern to have conversations with natives?

    • @mohammadeskandari4385
      @mohammadeskandari4385 Год назад +10

      MSA is not spoken on the street, but it is spoken on the news, in conferences, some tv series, documentaries, … Many Arabs switch to MSA when they meet another Arab from a different region. So MSA is pretty useful both as a foundation for learning Arabic and for communicating

      Make sure that you choose modern standard Arabic on the site. They also have Egyptian Arabic and Eastern Arabic.

      @@loistalagrand I am referring to MSA, for example in the first free lesson of MSA they use wrong arabic word for English language

    • @abulkhansaa906
      @abulkhansaa906 Год назад +3

      @@TabmansTube it’s not the “wrong” word, there are different correct ways of spelling and pronouncing certain words in Arabic just as in English.
      Most Arabs will say and write امريكا for America but I’ve also seen اميركا, both are right and it’s the result of importing foreign words into a language that leads to that difference.

      @moscowguitarman If the countries are closer the more likely they’ll understand eachother, get a Moroccan speaking to an Iraqi though and it’ll be pretty much unintelligible.

      @loistalagrand  Год назад

      Actually, with the monthly subscription, you will be able to download the lessons using the mobile app. However, you'll lose access once you stop your subscription.
      Unless you are planning on re-listening to the sames lessons, that is not an issue.

    Pimsleur Arabic only has 3 levels but Pimsleur Spanish has 5 levels. Does this mean the Pimsleur Arabic is less comprehensive than the Pimsleur Spanish? Or are those two extra levels unnecessary to get basic comprehension of Arabic?

    • @loistalagrand
      @loistalagrand  Год назад +2

      Pimsleur Arabic is less comprehensive. Pimsleur produce 3 levels from most languages, and 5 for languages that are in high demand.
      3 levels is enough to get a good grasp of the language.
