    People were wondering if DOGE was going to be a real thing, it looks like it is. This is what the people vote for, for Trump and his team to clean up DC. This ridiculous spending bill is a good place to start. We can't keep kicking the can down the road, we have to start cutting spending and living within our means now.

    It is an awesome podcast. I have been listening for a few years now. I think I noticed when they went to video.... The interchange is more cluttered, less clean, now. Was there a visual direction going on behind the scenes that now the group cannot do (because they're on video)? Or is it because now the protagonists are not solely focused on how they sound but also how they look (which is fantastic btw!). But as a listener I liked the seemingly more crisp transitions that i think the panel had when it was NOT also video. But the dynamic is still great and i love listening. Just my 'notes'.

    Defense spending slightly dipping for a couple years has nothing to do with what’s happening in Ukraine or Israel. Come on, now. If we’d spent another $50 billion on defense in the mid 2010s Putin wouldn’t have gone into Ukraine? Nonsense.

      The problem with Tucker is that when he interviews characters like Jeffrey Sachs is that he lets them talk without questioning anything they say. He looks at them with open eyes and a surprised expression. Tucker just doesn't have the knowledge to interview people with an agenda. I noticed this when he went to Russia and made an evaluation of the country based on some selected beautiful subway stations.

      @@drmalady1268 The late Dr. Bernard Nathanson, who was not a practicing Jew, after pushing through a pro-choice bill in New York, later became pro-life and much later a Catholic. I am a late-in-life Catholic but became pro-life after reading Dr. Nathanson book, ABORTING AMERICA (I came across a copy in the Doubleday editorial offices where I worked in the early 1980s.) I try not to question minds changed, but the Obama/Biden years have clearly put this country -- and Israel -- at great risk in many ways. I don't think "disaster" is too strong a word. I'm familiar with Pres. Trump from my years in NYC and his large "fly-the-flag" helicopter fly-overs in Queens (where I lived) and Manhattan. His many appearances on Letterman displayed a calmer and reasonable Trump. As for decadent presidential behavior since 1960 -- as Mel Brooks would say, "it's good to be king;" which it seems presidents have become. Were this were not so. As for voting; all elections are now "lesser evil" campaigns.

    Okay, here's one big thing I'm not hearing in this analysis (or any other analysis I've heard): in the recent past, Republicans have stood their ground on CR pork and the govt. shut down as a result. The Democrats had a VERY easy time, using their allies in the media, convincing the public that it was the Republicans' fault no one could, for example, go to national parks and the public was mad at the Republicans.
    Republicans then cowered in the face of future govt. shutdowns, and that seems to be happening now. But, the public no longer trusts the media, and, in a post-Obama US, the Democrats have lost a lot of the public's deference. I think the Republicans should let the govt. shut down and publish a list of the ridiculous spending that was forced into the CR by corrupt politicians (both D and R). Every free-thinking podcaster in the US will be talking about that list and we'll have an easier time trimming this CR and other ones moving forward.
    Also, Abe is absolutely wrong. This is not too much Musk. We wanted this. This is what we voted for.

    • @profbacon
      @profbacon 23 дня назад

      Except you have Republicans who will NEVER vote for the CR. It’s part of their identity. The only way the CR passes is with Dem votes and they are pointing to Children Cancer research being cut. Neither Mike Johnson nor Trump nor Musk can strong arm every R into submission.
      Every government shutdown since Gingrich in 98 hurt Republicans in the short term. And in the long term whoever shut it down never got what they wanted.
      Trump didn’t get a dime for the border wall in his shut down. Dems didn’t get protection for Dreamers. Ted Cruz didn’t get Obama to blow up Obama-care.
      No has believed Biden’s on charge for months. And the more Trump strong arms congress, the more he and the Republicans will be held responsible for not paying the troops during Christmas.
      As for Musk, Americans don’t actually like foreigners having too much influence over officials. Soros has been a boogeyman for decades, and he’s never been dancing on stage with a president or president elect.

    Hey John, isn't a seven-front war really vs a "septapus?"...So fascinating, allowing the gov't to go into default this time might not ultimately backfire against those who actually want to see the deep state significantly shrunken. I'm a never-Democrat & never-Trumper, but rooting for Musk-genius taking on this monstrosity, which might require a combo of Kissinger's defcon v the USSR during the '73 Yom Kippur War plus Ali's rope-a-dope chess match against Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle in '74...However, even if such a truncated bill were to pass with a unanimous GOP House vote, if Poor Mike Johnson were to survive and defense spending were increased to 4.5% of GDP, Pres.-elect Trump has had no appetite to explain to the 47% that their "entitlements" must be drastically reformed.

    Musk is simply demonstrating the power of social media and independent news sources. People who care can know what Congress is trying to hide in a bill like this before they vote on it instead of perhaps at some point down the road. Perhaps more importantly not only can they know it, they can send loud and clear feedback before the vote happens. Now that Musk has shown that it works others will do it. X was going off on this bill before Musk jumped on the bandwagon, before Trump reversed position.
    I think you're giving Mike Johnson too much credit. He should know that business as usual is over and act accordingly. His job shouldn't be to pass legislation at *any* cost. If it takes a government shutdown to make budget cuts more palatable, so be it. If it takes a government shutdown to get Congress to pass a clean CR, so be it. We can't afford to always go with the carrot instead of the stick.

      This bogus post so perfectly captures the idiocy that is Trump and the Republican party. There's not a 40% pay increase in the bill--there's a 3.8% pay increase. But because of morons like Elon Musk, this sort of BS gets spread around and no one is interested in the actual facts. Trump has zero executive management skills, so the First Buddy will continue to frustrate any attempt at governance so long as he doesn't pull too much of the spotlight away from the Narcissist in Chief. It was interesting to read Netanyahu's book that Sachs referenced. He didn't want the US to overthrow Arab regimes (he didn't think that would work) he just wanted us to pressure them to allow pro Israel voices to speak without being arrested or lynched.
