This was great, thanks! One question though. How do you go about changing your guitar effects/signals in the middle of recording if you're using Axe FX? For example, going from a clean channel to a distorted?
Heh, I have a friend who has painted a picture of Jimi Hendrix, too, maybe I need to buy it and place it strategically Not sure what exactly the White Balance effect is doing, but will look into it
That cut shouldn't be happening. Make sure you have a class 10 SD card. You should be able to record a long time. We use that same camera to record our events and director's announcements at work.
Haha! You are right, I don't have that problem usually but knew that I would get some questions from people having issue with other DSLRs so thought I would just "anticipate" and show the fix. :D
Great video; thanks for this! Small "oops" at 12:58 that threw me, where you say you go to FCPX, but you actually go to Logic (to export audio to import later into FCPX). Just pointing it out in case anyone else was confused for a minute.
Excellent! I am just beginning to gather tools to create some DSLR guitar videos with great audio recording. I was scratching my head how to sync the DSLR video with the audio recorded separately in a different software. My take from your video is that there is software that can sync the video with the audio based on the video's original poor audio. That is great! I imagined it would be easier to do if we had timestamps on the video stream as well as audio and we just sync the start timestamp. I am sure this would be another way to do it. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Most videos I've seen shows someone breezing through what they use, but they don't take the time to show you "how" to actually do it. Thanks for the tutorial.
David your video is great! I broadcast live but I really admire and appreciate individuals like you who make amazing videos. It takes a lot of time and effort to make them look great like you do! Thank you for taking us back stage and into your home to see how it's all done!
Great video David. You're a very good educator. Could you tell me how I can add fretboard graphics and notation to my videos? Not sure what program or software does this like your videos. Thank you so much!
Awesome this helped me a ton! I just ordered a Scarlett 2i2 interface! I have a few questions! 1. Do you have monitors/speakers that play your sound while recording or can you just use your amp? 2. Do you know of any free video editing softwares that can cut the videos that easy and synchronize the videos like that? 3. Every guitarist that I see on RUclips has the same Mac computer. I have a windows laptop. Is there a difference between apple or windows? Is there a difference between desktop or laptop? Thanks for your answers! This vid helped me out a lot!
Yes, an excellent video. I’ve done few guitar vids with simply an iPad (2nd gen) which is not excellent quality especially for audio. But my intentions are to use my Pro Tools DAW and Final Cut exactly as you have shown. I thoroughly enjoyed watching and appreciated you giving your generous time to share this. THANK YOU.
Yeah....about those external sources of noise....you can always plug directly into your laptop or whatever and record digitally, right? I mean, you do tend to play electric guitar, right?
I use OBS studio to record my covers and stuff. I use an audio source from my desktop and a video source from my webcam to record, then I edit the remaining on my video editor xD.
Nice video I learnt something new..... But I have a question pls....... When you were recording the guitar in logic was the sound playing out from your monitors?? Or it was completely off..... That's the sound the mic picked was it from an amp or just the guitar pickups???
Not sure if you're still answering questions about this video but I'll try anyway. Thanks for the info, very helpful. One question I have is, you did a screen capture showing you using Final Cut Pro, and we could hear your internal microphone being recorded, plus the audio playing from Logic Pro. How was this achieved? were you recording the internal microphone and Logic Pro audio output directly into the screen recording? or something else. Hope this makes sense! Thanks in Advance!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Is there a way to record the video and audio rea ltime in to the MAC like with imovie without having to import and sync the video? Does anyone know if this is possible.
Thanks a lot. I will be following in your foot steps soon. How long did it take you to get comfortable recording and editing? From your first recording experience until now with video and audio? I was so anal with tone for years and hated putting anything. You posted a video about it and I quit even editing at all using only presets to lay ideas down. I will be starting a channel once I feel it's up to par. Thanks for the pro inspiration. I almost quit playing due to the Kansas City music scene. Now I have set goals for you tube and a website TY TY TY!
I'm in the same boat dude! Planning to start a channel once I have the equipment and knowledge lol. The music scene in western mass nearly killed my musical ambitions.
Hi David. Thanks for sharing your video. How do you add effects and amps to your recording in Logic? Did you delete the direct audio from the video in Final Cut or you just dragged it down in the timeline? How do you export the final video in good quality as a lighter file?
Hi David, thanks for the quality videos. I have a Mac and I'm using iMovie... I'm new to video editing and would like to know if the video/audio sync option is available on iMovie as well. If not, do you have any tips on alternatives? Thanks again.
I just got my canon t5i :). I will shoot in the next few days....by the way...the trick you made by rotating the video in order to match a linear fretboard was so usefull!
Hay,at the beginning(before programming) ,was the sound recorded directly from your camera?I am interested of making video and sound while playing with YT and i am very satisfied with your sound at the beginning. So in that case i need good camera? Thanks.
hey! great video. I am just starting to make a youtube video, i have a scarlet 2i2 i wanna sing and play acoustic, im stuck on recording it then getting it up on RUclips. Am i correct in saying i need a separet camera ? My interface and my mac then basically record myself singing and playing on the camera and in edit just turn that to 0…. while also recording my vocal and guitar on the interface? then do all the editing as you did and that would be complete?
Hey David. Thanks for this video, it was really informative. I have a question. I've just started making instructional videos and at the moment I'm recording audio into Logic Pro X and filming with my iPhone 6. I'm editing with iMovie and I have a nightmare syncing the video and audio. The video and audio don't stay synced for very long so I have to do lots of cuts to keep them together. Do you have any tips that might reduce or stop this problem? Merci d'avance :o)
***** OK cool. I'm going to try some recording with a lavalier and bypass Logic for the moment and see how that goes. Thanks for getting back to me in any case. Your channel is an inspiration :o)
Are you still using that same canon camera these days...or did you find one that doesn't force you to cut scenes so often? That particular aspect of that camera seems like a pain with everything else you might need to concentrate on.
I wasn't looking for a guitar video production tutorial in particular, but somehow, I found this really enjoyable to watch, very interesting how you showed every little detail. Nice work!
Hi David, Really like your video. I picked up on the AC part and I cant see how that was a problem with this video. Can you explain when you would not have it on.
Hi, Thanks for the reply. What I was trying to get at is when do you need to turn off the Air? I'm thinking for the anything using Mic's. Not the guitar, or any other instrument loaded directly into the computer via an interface. I live in a real hot place and no air or fans is a nightmare. FYI: I tried to go up and look at your lessons but there is nowhere to create an account on that page. Can you send me a link to create an account?
Great video! You got my subscription. You are daaaaaang good. Not many guitar players are clean like that. hey how do you create a little tab strip and put it on the bottom of a video??
David thanks so much for taking the extra time and effort to make this video, huge fan of your channel and your style of guitar playing keep up the good work!
David can you help me out. I do not own a mac. So what are the best alternates for Logic Pro X as well as final cut pro. Cheers. -An aspiring guitarist from India
David sir thank you for inspiring me ❤️🙏 I've been following your for years and love what you share .. thank you ❤️🙏🥰love and Greetings Paul Po Goa India ✌️🙌
So let me get this straight, for the best results, should I record audio separately from my video recording and then sync the two together? If so, will my guitar sound better through a studio mic or an audio interface?
Fantastic video. I seem to have issues with playback framerate when trying to record videos, where yours looks seamless. What sort of spec machine are you using?
This was awesome. I actually want to learn this track. Rather than watch this over and over I'd rather support the channel. Where do I find this specific lesson? Ill look in the description.
Great video David, just a couple quick questions. When making a video what sample rate do you record in, as far as I know I should match the sample rate with the fps of the video which is usually 48 fps but what would I do if I want to import a backing track that has a sample a rate of 44.1?
Awesome video! I've always wondered about the audio synching process. This is a long shot, but can you share any tips about reducing the amount of latency while recording live instruments into logic? As a follow up, does the interface you use help with latency? Thanks again, you truly provide amazing content with tons of value.
Do you prefer to use a mic when speaking or just use the rode? Which would you recommend. I want to do bass lessons. But new to multimedia camera stuff lol
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I’m just starting off and can’t wait to get started making my own guitar videos. You’ve gained a new subscriber. And beautiful playing as well.
Can I just mic the amp with a mic plugged in the video camera? I don't want to edit nothing..I just want goos video and audio when I play electeic guitar ..can you pls help me how to do ..thank you
Hey David , I have fallen in love with the backing track starting @10:53 time and your solo along with that has touched my soul :-) . Canot explain how beautiful it was listening to that.. some extremly useful info here for anyone wanting to make 6 string videos
Why only 6 string?
+MrEdUrAt
I think he meant "guitar" by "6-string". Like Bryan Adams in summer of 69'.
It's always about when and where the kids are, right? :) Good stuff, Walliman!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for taking your time to share this!
This was great, thanks! One question though. How do you go about changing your guitar effects/signals in the middle of recording if you're using Axe FX? For example, going from a clean channel to a distorted?
You can use a midi foot controller like the Fractal MFC. That said I never have to switch tones when doing these. ;)
Heh, I have a friend who has painted a picture of Jimi Hendrix, too, maybe I need to buy it and place it strategically
Not sure what exactly the White Balance effect is doing, but will look into it

This is one of my favorite one of your videos David! Thanks so much for making this!
Very well explained and the guitar playing was really great! Thank you.

Great Painting of him too!

+GaryR55 Yes, that's what I do. The external source of noise is only an issue for the voice.
I use OBS studio to record my covers and stuff. I use an audio source from my desktop and a video source from my webcam to record, then I edit the remaining on my video editor xD.
Is OBS better than Shotcut?
thank you for taking the time for uploading this video
What scale are you using for your lead? You sound amazing. I am view with part admiration and part envy.
Nice video I learnt something new..... But I have a question pls....... When you were recording the guitar in logic was the sound playing out from your monitors?? Or it was completely off..... That's the sound the mic picked was it from an amp or just the guitar pickups???
Totally awesome! I do some video editing and music recording as well and it was great to see what you do. Thanks so much for sharing. H

I used to do this with Sony Vegas, but my software didn't have sinc ? It was hard to get the video and audio in sinc I remember
very interesting video, lots of useful hints and tips thanks
Thank you walking us thru the process. Priceless.
Great Vidoe...I always wondered how this was done. I tried to record from Cam, but the sound was not what I was hearing when recording...
Dude...I've seen a handful of your stuff and that's the best guitar I've heard you play. That was stunning.
Man! I didn't know you could synchronize clips that easily. Ill definitely be using that soon!
I loved your Hendrix WB tip. Thanks for this vídeo.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Is there a way to record the video and audio rea ltime in to the MAC like with imovie without having to import and sync the video? Does anyone know if this is possible.
your video is verrrrry useful to me! thanks!
and, Do you know how to add 'guitar Tabs' into my video??
Thanks a lot. I will be following in your foot steps soon. How long did it take you to get comfortable recording and editing? From your first recording experience until now with video and audio? Joshua Stavely I can't remember how long exactly. But I have been doing it about 10 years.
Thanks~! I actually process my guitar through the Axe FX II which has all the effects before going into the sound card.
Love the Parker Nightfly on the background
Hi Dave. You mention on here that there are PC alternatives to software like I Movies /Garageband.Might you know what they might be?
what about how to connects the guitar to the computer to record. and together with background
Hi David, thanks for the quality videos. I have a Mac and I'm using iMovie... I'm new to video editing and would like to know if the video/audio sync option is available on iMovie as well. If not, do you have any tips on alternatives? Thanks again.
Unfortunately it's not. I think you can manually move the audio to line up though?
I just got my canon t5i :). I will shoot in the next few days....by the way...the trick you made by rotating the video in order to match a linear fretboard was so usefull!
cool stuff so from ur guitar to interface to pc into daw/ video editing?
Very soft focus
enjoyed video man, learned alot.just got into making guitar videos so thanks so much!!
Hay,at the beginning(before programming) ,was the sound recorded directly from your camera?I am interested of making video and sound while playing with YT and i am very satisfied with your sound at the beginning. So in that case i need good camera? Thanks.
No, I record the guitar directly into the computer, then edit everything together!
What song were you playing on the lead! It was so beautiful! Please do tell!
Thanks! That was a backing track from my site: www.guitarplayback.com/melodic-alchemist
hey! great video. I am just starting to make a youtube video, i have a scarlet 2i2 i wanna sing and play acoustic, im stuck on recording it then getting it up on RUclips. Thank you! I love your tutorials. Hope to see you at NAMM 2018. Will you be there this year?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

This video was so cool! I really enjoyed getting the behind the scenes process, excellent!
Hey david, great video :)
was wondering if you could explain how people add tabs/notation to their video, especially ..the moving type
Great video! You got my subscription. You are daaaaaang good. Not many guitar players are clean like that. hey how do you create a little tab strip and put it on the bottom of a video??
Thanks! I just import an image from Guitar Pro into Final Cut! :)
hey david great video mate, could you please explain why you need to have that white border in your video - what effects that has on your color?
never mind I spoke too soon hahaha
David thanks so much for taking the extra time and effort to make this video, huge fan of your channel and your style of guitar playing keep up the good work!
David can you help me out. I do not own a mac. So what are the best alternates for Logic Pro X as well as final cut pro.
Cheers.

Hey nice video as always :) , what are those books at the right side of your monitor?
I just clicked on the video for tips on video making, but I have to say man, that is a smooth, smooth solo. Excellent work.
So let me get this straight, for the best results, should I record audio
separately from my video recording and then sync the two together? If
so, will my guitar sound better through a studio mic or an audio
interface?
Thanks for sharing that man! Just what I need to know on very straight forward way! Love it!
You sir just got another subscriber.
Fantastic video. I seem to have issues with playback framerate when trying to record videos, where yours looks seamless. What sort of spec machine are you using?
Thanks for a great video.....this really helped me out. Keep up the great work !

Brilliant video David, great tips and tasteful playing as always!
Amazing video, David!! Do you know if I can do this process using Cubase 8 + Sony Vegas Pro 12 ?
Very informative, thanks mate!
Very good. Thanks for your tips!
Dude! The solo was very beautiful 👍🏼
Do you not plug in the amp at all with the audio interface?
It's just what I needed. Thanks for your work!
nice tutorial. it is Nice presentation. thank you for sharing
Very useful, got some really good advice! Thank you!

Great video, very informative! Thank you for sharing this!
Great job man, just subscribed ;)
When I am recording my guitar with a microphone near my amp, I need to use headphones while playing with a backingtrack right?
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I’m just starting off and can’t wait to get started making my own guitar videos. You’ve gained a new subscriber. And beautiful playing as well.
i love your guitar!
Hey David, what was the light you were using?
Thanks David, very clear and helpful! The quality is great, what lens are you using?
Great video and nice solo!
Wonderful! The perfect tutorial at just the right time! I am setting my own video studio room up this school holiday period! Thank you, David :D
amazing tutorial!! thanks
Can I just mic the amp with a mic plugged in the video camera? I don't want to edit nothing..I just want goos video and audio when I play electeic guitar ..can you pls help me how to do ..thank you
